Chapter 352: A Rare Display of Thoughtfulness
“The green one is okay,” Alison said.
After the maid left, the doctor entered.
“Doctor, her foot is injured. Handle it, then tell me the outcome,” Pierre said.
“Yes, Mr. Bruce,” the doctor replied.
The doctor carefully examined Alison’s body.
After half an hour, he reported to Pierre,
“The basic examination is done. I recommend a full physical examination to determine if there are any other external injuries.”
“No need. I only have pain in my foot,” Alison cut in hurriedly, afraid the doctor would find out she was pregnant — and that Pierre might destroy the life growing inside her.
“You’d better have a comprehensive examination,” the doctor insisted.
“Fine. Tomorrow, I’ll take her to the Bruce family’s private hospital for a checkup,” Pierre nodded.
“Doctor, leave the medicine here. I’ll apply it myself,” she protested.
“All right, here you go.” The doctor pulled the medicine out of the medical kit.
Just as Pierre reached to take them, Alison said,
“Give them to me. I studied nursing. I can handle this myself.”
Just then, his phone rang.
Glancing at the caller ID, Pierre turned to pick it up.
“What is it?”
“… “
“No. You forced her onto me. Now she’s mine — don’t even think about taking her back,” he said flatly before hanging up.
Taking the medication the doctor handed her, Alison pretended to be nonchalant as she scanned the instructions.
Her stomach tightened. Every bottle label screamed the same warning — Not for use during pregnancy.
“Mr. Bruce, if there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave,” the doctor said, flinching as though Pierre might explode.
Pierre waved impatiently.
After the doctor left, silence fell over the room.
Pierre stared intently at her, his mind racing.
Unaware of his intentions, she sat upright on the bed and met his gaze.
They locked eyes for a long moment.
After a pause, Pierre chuckled.
“You’re certainly a woman worthy of my attention. You’ve got guts. Rest for a bit. I’ll go out to take care of some business.”
He was puzzled — why had his father suddenly insisted on having Alison?
Originally, the old man had planned to hand her to Pierre briefly — then ship her off to Africa.
So why the sudden reversal?
No… there’s something else at play.
He strode out of the room eagerly, leaving Alison alone.
Watching his retreating figure, she exhaled in relief.
She slowly rose from the bed. Clinging to the wall for support, she shuffled toward the window.
She was desperate for freedom.
Each careful step came with the same silent prayer — that she wouldn’t harm the child she carried, Gabriel’s child.
She gently stroked her belly and lost herself in thought.
Where are you, Gabriel?
Just then, blinding headlights suddenly illuminated the courtyard outside the villa.
Counting carefully, she saw as many as five vehicles.
An entire convoy — far too many for a visit.
Who could it be?
Matthew? Pierre? Or someone else?
