Chapter 32 About to Give Birth
In the hospital room, there were two other new mothers, each surrounded by family, with tables full of food and supplies.
But Alison only had Laura by her side.
Still, the thought of her two little babies about to be born filled her with anticipation.
Children were the continuation of her life.
Alison loved this feeling of waiting.
She asked Laura to go back to the store to prepare some food because she knew she would need to eat after giving birth to produce milk. She believed she could have a natural delivery.
After Laura left, Alison walked up and down the hospital corridor. Walking would help speed up the labor.
The contractions in her lower abdomen were becoming more frequent. Each time the pain hit, she would lean against the wall for a moment.
Her two little babies were working hard to meet their mom.
After more than two hours of this, she could tell from the timing of the contractions that it was almost time.
The books had described it just like this, and she had memorized every detail.
She returned to the room and ate three boiled eggs and two chocolates, knowing she would need the energy for labor.
She followed the book's advice, whether it was right or not.
Another contraction hit.
The doctor arrived and took her to the delivery room.
At this moment, she felt a bit panicked, having no one to lean on.
The doctor casually asked, "Miss Fairchild, where's your husband?"
The question almost brought tears to her eyes, but she forced a smile and said, "He's busy."
She comforted herself with the thought that Jack was busy.
But she knew that if Jack found out she was having his children, he would have made her get rid of them. He hated her and had made her take so many birth control pills. She remembered it all.
"What kind of man is too busy when his wife is giving birth? What's more important than the birth of a child?" The doctor criticized the absent father.
She listened, smiling faintly, but her heart was bitter. She had to endure because she was about to become a mother, and not just to one child, but two. She had to be strong, she had no other choice.
"I have someone taking care of me. She went home to prepare some food and will be back soon," she told the doctor.
"That's good. It would be terrible if no one was there to help after the birth," the nurse said, helping her onto the delivery bed.
The contractions continued. She bit her lip, gripping the bed's handles without making a sound.
The doctor checked her and said, "Wow, you're already four centimeters dilated. It's almost time. How come you haven't made a sound?"
Alison gave a weak smile. "It doesn't hurt." Thinking about her soon-to-be-born children, she really didn't feel the pain.
"Save your strength for the delivery. It won't be long now," the doctor said, and the room became a flurry of activity. Alison closed her eyes and followed the doctor's instructions, pushing with all her might...
Outside the delivery room, Laura had returned and was anxiously waiting, hoping Alison would deliver soon.
Suddenly, a loud cry of a newborn was heard.
Alison had given birth!
Laura craned her neck to look inside. Though she couldn't see Alison, she saw a nurse holding a tiny baby, weighing it, then wrapping it up and heading towards the door. "Who's here for Alison?"
Laura quickly stepped forward. "I am."
"Here, there are two babies. This is the first one, a big, healthy boy," the nurse said.
Laura took the baby, peeking under the blanket. The little face didn't look like Alison at all. She wondered who he resembled. But those bright, curious eyes looking up at her, almost smiling, were utterly adorable.
The delivery room was still bustling. In a daze, Alison heard the nurse say she had given birth to a big boy, and she felt a bit disappointed.
She thought, twins are usually two boys or two girls. Since she had a son, the next one was likely a boy too.
"Miss Fairchild, we haven't had twins in this hospital for over two months, so our head doctor is here to deliver your babies. Do you prefer boys or girls?" The doctor chatted to ease her tension.
"A girl," Alison hesitated slightly but voiced her wish.
"Then push hard, maybe the next one will be a girl!" The doctor said cheerfully, eyes fixed on Alison's belly. The baby's head was already visible. "Just a bit more, and the baby will be out! This head looks smaller than the last one, it might be a girl!"
"Really?" Alison perked up, gripping the handles so tightly her knuckles turned white. She pushed with all her strength, and finally, she felt a rush as if her belly had been emptied, and a lot of fluid came out.
Another cry, softer than the first, filled the room.
"Miss Fairchild, it's a girl! You have a boy and a girl! This calls for a celebration! Women love having a boy and a girl, enduring once and having both. I think you'll be very blessed," the doctor said happily.
Blessed? Alison didn't think so.
Who could be more miserable than her? Giving birth to two children, with no one but Laura to care for her.
But now she was happy because her life had two new little beings who would accompany her through every storm, every joy, and sorrow.
Though she said she preferred a girl, the moment she saw her son, she fell in love with the little guy. He looked so much like... that person.
What annoyed her more was that her daughter also resembled that person. Neither of the little ones looked like her.
Her son was named Ethan Fairchild, and her daughter was named Sophia Fairchild.
Alison became busy, taking care of the children, working hard to provide for them. She wanted to give them the best life possible.
But she always had that incident from years ago weighing on her mind. She had to find that person.
Because she needed to clear her and Jack's names.
In this world, the truth will always come to light.
Believe in yourself, and the sky will be blue, the sea will be vast.
On a summer night, under the neon lights, the street became a stage for girls in cool outfits.
The night breeze gently swayed the palm trees. At this moment, a stylish, alluring woman walked down the sidewalk. She wore a tight pink dress, her waist slender, her long hair cascading in waves. The rose-red color of her hair shimmered under the neon lights, catching the eyes of passersby.
