Chapter 29 He Hates Her
Her fingers trembled slightly as she pressed the power button, her eyes glued to the screen as if all the answers were hidden within.
Once the computer booted up, she quickly connected to the Wi-Fi and nervously opened her email.
But there was only the email from that morning: "Leave, immediately." After that, there had been no further contact.
Yeah, she had been used and discarded, no longer of any value.
Those four words were the only time that person had ever shown any consideration for her.
Maybe if she had left the apartment earlier, she wouldn't have run into Jack and wouldn't have been treated so cruelly by him.
But she was a step too late.
It was all fate, something she couldn't escape.
Next, she opened the local website for T City and quickly browsed through the information.
Suddenly, she saw "YD Construction Company."
There was only a simple message: At the annual shareholders' meeting of YD Construction Company, CEO Jack unexpectedly resigned for unknown reasons. The identity of YD's new CEO had become the focus of everyone's attention.
That was it.
Jack had resigned from his position as CEO of YD, no wonder he was so angry.
Although there were no further details, based on what Jack had said before, she knew something must have happened that forced him to resign, and it involved her and the mysterious Emily Bruce.
She bit her lip, still unclear about the details, but she knew it had to be related to the person who had taken her photos.
She clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her skin, but she didn't feel any pain.
She swore she would find that person and clear her name.
But she and Jack could never go back to the way things were because he hated her.
That was the real pain...
In October, the sky was a clear blue, a gentle breeze rustling the palm leaves like a girl's skirt, bringing a sense of freshness and tranquility.
The weather had lost the heat of summer and gained a bit of coolness, making it particularly comfortable.
Alison walked along the street, her physical wounds had scabbed over and no longer hurt, but the wounds in her heart would never heal.
The ice cream shop across the street was where she had been working temporarily while recovering. As long as she had a simple job and a place to stay, she could support herself.
The light turned green, and Alison stepped onto the crosswalk. Her light steps gave no hint of what she had been through, but only she knew how heavy each step felt.
Because her heart was filled with mysteries that needed to be solved.
Given time, she would unravel them all.
Alison's short hair fluttered gently in the wind, and she habitually tucked it behind her ear. At that moment, she caught a glimpse of a white Lamborghini waiting at the light.
Oh my God, it was him, the person she hadn't seen in over a month, sitting in the driver's seat!
She had thought she would never see him again, but here she was, walking right past him.
Her heart ached, just like the day he had hurt her so cruelly in the woods.
She kept walking, but her heart was pounding wildly.
Alison quickly looked away and hurried across the street, praying he hadn't seen her.
It seemed like he was on the phone, hopefully, he hadn't noticed her.
But just as she crossed the street, in her haste, her phone slipped from her hand and fell onto the road.
Instinctively, she looked up, but the light had already turned red, and cars were starting to move.
Her phone lay just a few steps behind her, but she didn't dare turn back.
Because that white Lamborghini was still parked at the corner, and it would be the first to move when the light turned green.
Now, she didn't even dare to retrieve her phone.
Alright, just pretend she hadn't seen him.
But then, she heard a commotion behind her, drivers shouting, "Hey, the light's green, why aren't you moving?"
The city had a no-honking rule, so the drivers could only protest verbally.
Alison didn't know what was happening behind her, but the noise made her walk faster.
Her heart was in a panic. She had thought she could face him calmly, pretending not to know him because she was no longer Emily, she was Alison.
But now, she was flustered.
"Miss, your phone." Just as she was about to reach the ice cream shop, a familiar, magnetic voice called out from behind her.
The voice was so familiar that her heart skipped a beat, and her feet felt rooted to the ground.
She didn't turn around, standing still as she watched Jack's figure approach her quickly.
His voice, his scent, everything was so familiar, as if they had just parted, as if the past month had never happened.
His shadow overlapped with hers, as if they had become one.
The sunlight warmed her skin.
Alison's heart was racing, but she couldn't panic, she couldn't acknowledge him.
She forced a smile, grateful she had cut her hair short.
At the salon, the stylist had tried to dissuade her for ten minutes, praising her long, silky hair.
But she had insisted, determined to cut it.
A hairstyle represented a chapter of the past. As the long strands fell, she kept telling herself to say goodbye to the past and become a new Alison.
She turned slightly, facing Jack with Emily's smile, her heart racing but her exterior calm.
She glanced at the phone in Jack's hand and smiled, "Sir, that's my phone, thank you."
Jack was taken aback, she looked so much like Emily. "Emily... Bru..."
Alison pretended not to hear, smiling again, "Sir, would you like to come to the ice cream shop where I work for a drink?" She invited him casually because he had picked up her phone. If she just took it and left, he would definitely be suspicious.
So she politely invited him for a drink.
Jack glanced at the ice cream shop behind Alison, a bit surprised, "You work here?"
"Yes," she maintained her smile, "Our shop is very clean, you don't have to worry..."
"Oh, no thanks." His tone was indifferent, he must have been mistaken. How could that woman be working in such a small shop? He handed her the phone, looking into her eyes seriously, "Be more careful next time, don't lose your things again."
