Chapter 259: Everything Is Strange (Part 2)
Alison’s nightgown was slipped off, and her bare breasts glowed pale in the soft lamplight.
Jack held the damp towel and wiped her skin.
When the wet cloth brushed against her sensitive spots, she flinched instinctively.
She blushed, her heart pounded.
Jack smiled, continuing his downward stroke. He suppressed his long-held desire. It had been so long since he slid into her body—an absolutely exquisite feeling.
He swallowed hard, fighting the familiar ache that rose inside him. It had been so long since he’d touched her like this—close enough to feel her breath tremble against his skin.
His eyes full of lust tracing around her full breasts.
He drew in a steady breath, forcing his hands to stay gentle, his thoughts to remain calm. Desire shimmered under the surface, dangerous and unspoken.
Sensing his reaction, Alison turned her head away.
Jack didn’t stop his action, from her chest to her legs and down to her thighs and feet.
Unable to resist him, she let him have his way. Whenever his hand touched her skin, warmth rippled through her, and she trembled instinctively.
He grinned. “Alison, you’re really ticklish, aren’t you?”
“Are you done yet?”
“Almost. Only your legs and feet then.” He picked up her foot and gently caressed it, admiring its beauty.
His fingers made her toes turn pink. “Jack, are you done?”
Her call snapped Jack back to reality. “All right, Alison. I’ll be out of town on business tomorrow so that the nurse will assist you with bathing for the next few days. Also, listen to music when you can. Avoid reading or watching TV; it strains your eyes.”
“Okay, I know.”
Deep down, she felt a bit lost for his following absence.
Every morning when she woke up, the space beside her was empty. Only faint traces on the sheets hinted that he had held her all night.
At night, he wouldn’t return until the early hours of the morning.
During the miscarriage, she just drifted through it in a daze.
The last day, he came back early and asked, “Alison, two weeks is over. You’ll be discharged tomorrow, and I’d love to take you and the kids to the playground. Can you?”
“Sure.”
Jack smiled. “Remember to bundle up tomorrow. Don’t catch a chill. It’s autumn.”
His words stirred her heart. “Okay.”
“Tomorrow, we’ll drive around the outer ring road of the city. I promise you’ll enjoy the view there.” He gently tapped her nose with his finger. “Alison. It’s been so long since you last smiled.”
That night, he held her close as usual while they slept. Her body relaxed. She could feel him pressed against her.
He held her until her breathing softened against his chest, their silence heavy with everything they couldn’t say.
Dawn broke with the children’s shouts. “Lazy mommy, wakey-wakey!!”
Opening her eyes, she found Ethan tickling her.
“Mommy, hurry up! We’re leaving soon!”
