Chapter 256: Hate Him
Alison’s eyes caught the print — the drug was imported from Germany.
But as she read further, her heart plummeted. The drug was used for induced abortion.
Yesterday, he had murmured Emily’s name in his sleep. Today, he had taken their child’s life.
Pain pierced through her chest. How could he be this cruel?
She swallowed hard, refusing to let the tears fall.
Her fingers trembled as she peeled away the tape on her wrist.
With one sharp pull, she yanked the needle free — blood welled instantly, dripping down her arm.
She pushed herself upright, her lower body throbbing with unbearable pain, fresh blood trickling down her thighs.
Still, she forced herself to move — I have to get out of here.
She slipped into a loose dress, every motion stabbing through her abdomen, and reached for the door.
“Alison! What are you doing out of bed?” Jack rushed in, alarmed. “Don’t move. Tell me what you need — I’ll do it.” Before she could protest, he scooped her into his arms and set her back down. “Stay put. No more wandering.”
“It’s fine,” she lied with a strained smile. “I just wanted some air.”
“No, you can’t,” he said firmly, pressing her shoulders down. “Not until the bleeding stops.”
She stared at him. “Jack… you still care about me, don’t you?”
“Of course I do,” he replied without pause. “You’re my wife — my love.” Then, noticing her arm, he frowned. “Alison, how did your IV come out?”
“I used to intern in nursing. Pulling out an IV isn’t a big deal. Besides, I’m fine now.”
“That’s impossible,” he said quickly. “Those were antibiotics — you still need them.”
He couldn’t bring himself to say the truth — that the fluid had been poison.
“Then I’ll just take pills,” she said flatly.
“Fine. We’ll switch to oral meds. When we’re home, I’ll arrange a nurse to stay with you,” he promised.
“Whatever you say,” she murmured.
As he busied himself around the room, dizziness blurred her vision. If only those pills were just a dream… if only he still loved me.
When everything was packed, he turned back to her. “Alison, are you still in pain?”
She shook her head. “No.”
“Let me carry you.” Before she could refuse, he swept her into his arms, holding her tight against his chest.
She weakly pushed at his chest, but her strength failed her.
Under the staff’s stunned gazes, Jack strode down the hall with her in his arms.
The moment they reached the lobby, chaos exploded — reporters surged forward, cameras flashing.
“Damn it!” Jack muttered, yanking a blanket up to cover her face.
He said nothing, ignoring the barrage of shouted questions as he forced his way through the crowd.
