Chapter 241: Madness for Love (Part 1)
“Aidan, when you’re better, I’ll come back to YD,” she whispered. “I’ll be your assistant again, make sure everything runs perfectly for you.”
“Aidan, the kids are missing you. You can’t shirk your godfather duties by sleeping all the time.”
“Aidan, have you slept enough? Wake up—I’m right here beside you.”
…
Alison kept talking as the night swallowed the hospital.
As she held his hand, she felt the warmth slowly return to it.
“Aidan… are you waking up? Look at me,” she breathed, hardly daring to blink.
Suddenly, she felt a faint twitch in his fingers.
Her eyes sparkled with joy as she leaned closer.
She saw his eyelashes flutter, then his eyes slowly open.
“Aidan?”
This time, Aidan’s fingers twitched more forcefully.
Aidan parted his lips and furrowed his brow. “Alison? What are you doing?”
She smiled, relief flooding her voice. “Aidan, you’re injured, so I came to see you.”
“I’m injured?” He looked around in confusion. “Right… the driver must’ve been speeding again. The car must’ve flipped, didn’t it?”
Alison blinked. “Huh… what are you talking about?”
Suddenly, Aidan grabbed her hand. “Alison… I love you. Can we start over, Alison? Please don’t reject me, okay?”
Alison pressed a palm to his forehead—no fever. Yet something in his eyes was off, almost childlike.
She sat down blankly, her mind spinning.
Why is this happening?
“Aidan, I already have…” She wanted to use Colton as the excuse.
Before she could finish, Aidan cut her off. “Alison, what day is it?”
He pressed a hand to his forehead, wincing.
Alison waved her hand in front of his eyes.
His gaze followed it. “Alison, what are you doing? My vision’s fine. It’s just my legs—I can’t move them. Am I badly injured?”
“Aidan, you had surgery. The anesthesia might still be wearing off, so some parts of your body haven’t regained feeling yet. Don’t move, okay? You’ll tear your stitches.”
Aidan blinked. “Really?”
“Yes, Aidan, don’t worry.” Though she reassured him, her heart was racing.
She couldn’t believe it—Aidan had forgotten everything that happened after San Francisco.
She whispered, “I actually don’t work at YD anymore.”
Aidan gripped her sleeve. “Alison, are you lying to me? I never heard you quit. And Colton… he’s just your cover, isn’t he? Because you’ve got two kids and don’t want gossip, you used him as an excuse to make me give up, right?”
Alison froze, stunned.
She tried to explain, but before she could speak, Aidan took her hand.
“Alison, look at me,” he pleaded, gripping her hand. “You’re here beside me. That means you still care. Please… give me one more chance.”
His tone was both stubborn and tender, unraveling her resolve one word at a time.
What should I do now?
Her mind was a tangled knot. The joy of seeing him wake had already turned into panic.
No… I need to find the doctor.
What was going on with Aidan’s memory loss?
She said softly, “Close your eyes and rest a little more. I’ll go see if the porridge has arrived yet.”
But Aidan clasped her hand tightly. “Alison, I’m not hungry. I just want you to stay here, by my side.”
This left Alison torn between leaving and staying.
She called to the nurse. “Please get the doctor—tell him Mr. Winston is awake. And hurry with the porridge they’re preparing. Bring it as soon as it’s ready.”
After the nurse left, she could only sit quietly beside him.
He clung to her hand, unwilling to let go. “Alison, I bought a villa in San Francisco. It’s absolutely beautiful. If we… if we get the chance, I want to take you there. You’d love it.”
She had intended to refuse, but held back.
“Okay,” she said softly.
Aidan smiled.
“Alison, I wish I could get better quickly so we could go to San Francisco,” he said, eyes filled with innocent hope.
“Aidan, let’s wait until you’re fully recovered.”
Please… let your memory come back when your body heals.
