Chapter 225: As Long As He’s Alright
Pointing outside the window, Alison struggled to break free from Jack’s embrace.
“Don’t move,” he commanded.
“Someone… someone’s watching us,” she stammered, her face flushed with embarrassment.
Only then did Jack glance outside the windshield, spotting two shady-looking men staring at them.
Jack released Alison and growled, “Stay seated. Don’t get out.”
Without waiting for her response, he stepped out of the car.
He stormed up to the two young men and, without a word, swung a punch straight at one of them.
The young man had no time to react before blood spurted from his nose.
“Fuck!” the man roared, utterly unaware they’d stirred up serious trouble.
“Fuck you,” Jack spat, his fist already smashing into the other man’s jaw before the first could recover.
Alison was stunned. Panic gripped her as she pushed open the car door, ready to intervene. But Jack roared, “Stay put! Don’t get out of the car!”
His voice made her retract her foot and fall silent. In that moment, he looked terrifying—just like when he’d once shown his brutality in the woods.
Her heart raced. She watched outside, praying he’d be okay.
Outside, the three of them tangled in a fierce scuffle.
To Alison’s relief, Jack wasn’t being overpowered.
She’d never seen Jack fight before.
My goodness, he was so handsome.
“Tell me. What did you see?” Jack asked.
The two men responded in unison, “Nothing.”
“Fine, or I will make you guys blind.”
“Please spare us, sir! We’ll never do it again!”
Jack turned toward the car door.
Just then, one man’s phone rang.
He shouted, “We’re at the Italian restaurant! Hurry! That guy’s about to escape!”
Jack overheard and turned back, asking coldly, “What? Reinforcements?”
“So what if they are? Are you scared?” The man deliberately taunted Jack.
“Haha! Fear isn’t in my vocabulary.” Jack looked up to see a dozen men sprinting across the crosswalk toward them.
Alison couldn’t sit still any longer. She opened the driver’s door and shouted, “Jack, get in! Let’s go! Don’t stoop to their level.”
“Hey, your girlfriend is pretty good. But if you really leave now, you’ll be a coward.” The man continued to taunt Jack.
Jack’s pride kept him standing firm in front of the car.
Meanwhile, the dozen or so men closed in.
“Is this the guy?” The leader, a man wielding a knife, scrutinized Jack from head to toe.
“Yep, that’s him.”
“Well. Nice ride you’ve got there. Rolling in dough? Got too much cash burning a hole in your pocket?” The man taunted.
Jack sneered, his face showing no fear. “One at a time or all together?”
“You…” The man hadn’t expected Jack’s reaction.
“Come at me all at once. It’ll save me the trouble.” Jack sneered at the gang leader.
“Fine. You asked for it. Don’t blame us for being ruthless.” The man waved his hand and bellowed to his men behind him.
A dozen men closed in on Jack.
The blades glinted in the sunlight, sending a chill down Alison’s spine.
Just as the fight was about to erupt, she called the police.
Jack felt a savage thrill in his blood—finally, a chance to let loose.
He snatched a wooden stick and used it to fend off the relentless slashes of blades.
Alison was stunned, praying the police would arrive quickly. She felt she was dancing on the edge of a blade with him, at risk of being pierced at any moment.
She wanted to get out and help him, but she knew she would only make him trouble.
