Chapter 189: My Pleasure (Part 1)
After ending the call, Alison took Ethan’s hand. “Let’s go, Ethan.”
“Mummy, who were you talking to?” Ethan asked.
“Ethan, once we get out of the car, don’t talk to anyone — not even Daddy. If you’re good, we’ll see Sophia soon, ok?” she whispered.
“Ok, Mummy,” Ethan replied obediently.
Then they got out of the car.
Aidan stood outside in the sunlight, the light linen of his suit glinting, making him look exceptionally handsome.
Alison offered her hand to him and whispered, “Aidan, let’s go.”
“Mummy, what about me?” Ethan asked.
“Let your godfather take your hand,” she answered, hoping this would convince others of their relationship.
She walked towards Jack, each step with a heavy heart, determined to face him with a smile.
Jack, here I come.
Ethan murmured, “Daddy…” but quickly covered his mouth. Alison’s words held his tongue back.
Yet it still drifted into Jack’s ears.
“Ethan…” Jack spun around abruptly.
In the sunlight, he saw Alison, her arm linked with Aidan’s. Her face was aglow with happiness. Aidan held Ethan’s hand tightly.
In that moment, Jack froze, and a sharp ache tightened his chest.
He stood rooted to the spot.
What had happened?
As Alison drew near, he caught a faint scent of her.
His gaze remained fixed on her, burning with intensity.
“Ethan…” he murmured, seeking some answer from him.
Ethan looked at him timidly.
Alison clung tightly to Aidan’s arm, her heart aching as she looked at the man before her.
Just as she was about to speak, Aimée approached from behind Jack. “Aidan, Alison, you’re here.”
Alison extended her hand to Aimée. “Aimée, congratulations.”
Though the words felt hollow, for Sophia’s sake, she had to endure.
“Thank you,” Aimée replied, before turning to Ethan. “Who’s this little cutie? He’s so handsome.”
This remark drew everyone’s attention, and all eyes were fixed on Ethan. Ethan lifted his head and looked at Alison. “She’s my mummy.”
It ignited the onlookers’ curiosity.
“Oh, how wonderful! This boy clearly has the spirit of the Winston family. Like his father, he’s bound for greatness.”
“Indeed. Following in his father’s footsteps, he’ll surely become another outstanding figure at YD.”
Everyone naturally assumed that Ethan was Aidan’s son.
Alison and Aidan overheard these remarks.
Aidan opened his mouth to speak, but Alison clasped his hand tightly. “Aidan, Ethan really likes you. Let’s go inside.” With that, she turned to enter the wedding venue.
Jack’s face was already gloomy.
As he watched Ethan enter with Alison and Aidan, he suddenly shouted, “Wait!”
The outburst startled Aimée, her heart instantly tightening. Fearing that Jack might ruin the atmosphere, she instinctively took his hand. “Jack, were you calling me?”
“No.”
“Then…” Aimée asked, feeling mortified.
Could it be that Jack still hadn’t let go, even though Alison and Aidan were together?
Just as Aimée felt her anger boiling over, Jack shouted, “Alison, stop right there.”
In that moment, he had cast aside all reason, no longer caring about anything else.
Alison had no choice but to stop. Her body trembled as she stood back to him.
Aidan noticed her unease, asking, “Alison, you and Jack…”
Alison cut off his words. “Aidan, stop. Don’t ask anything, ok?”
Inside, her mind was a raging inferno, every vein threatening to burst.
When they had faced each other moments ago, her heart had ached. She didn’t want to confront him now. She feared she might lose control and reveal all her secrets.
After taking deep breaths, Alison finally turned around, still smiling. “Mr Winston, were you calling me?”
