Chapter 185: Impatient
After dinner, everyone drifted into the living room.
Stephen asked, “Is everything ready for tomorrow’s wedding, Jack?”
Jack nodded.
Apart from Cassandra, the others were discussing his wedding to Aimée. At that moment, he desperately wanted to run away. He never wanted to marry Aimée. He just wanted to see Alison.
Should I marry Aimée?
Stephen added, “Jack, what happened?”
She was always observant, capturing his depressed mood.
“Oh, I just remembered that the wedding gifts are still at the apartment. I need to get them now so that I won’t be rushing around tomorrow,” Jack said, making up an excuse.
“Then hurry and get them! Don’t delay the wedding tomorrow.”
“Alright, I’ll go now. Aunt Stephen, what time will Aidan arrive tomorrow?” Jack asked casually.
“Around eight in the morning. We wanted him to arrive earlier, but flights were difficult to book,” Stephen explained.
“As long as he comes,” he said. Yet deep down, he hoped Aidan wouldn’t show up — it would make his escape much harder.
He couldn’t bear to imagine Aimée’s reaction if he escaped. Everyone would blame him.
Aimée seemed surprisingly calm.
This made him uneasy.
Why was Aimée so confident that he would marry her?
“Jack, what are you standing there for? Go get it!” Stephen urged him, his her eyes brimming with affection.
Jack headed for the door.
Isabella called after him, “Jack, come back soon! Don’t be late!”
Feeling uneasy, she gazed at his leaving back. She knew he was being forced to marry Aimée.
“Isabella, don’t worry. Jack’s a grown man now. He’ll take care of himself,” Aimée reassured her with a smile.
“Just look at the wonderful daughter-in-law, Isabella,” Stephen remarked.
“Of course! She’s the best! I handpicked her myself. Stephen, when will Aidan marry? Jack’s beaten him to the altar.”
“It’s normal. Aimée is pregnant; it’s a joyous occasion indeed! After all, marriage makes it official. Cassandra, why haven’t you said a word?”
“Huh? What did you say?” Stephen’s question startled Cassandra.
“Jack is getting married, so Aidan needs to step up, right?”
Grandfather finally spoke up. “Cassandra, didn’t you mention that Aidan has a girlfriend? Why don’t you bring her over?”
“Dad, Aidan’s girlfriend is pretty shy. I’ve only met her once. I’ll talk to him tomorrow and ask him to bring her over. If you’re not satisfied, I’ll get him to find someone else.”
“What’s her name? What’s she like?”
Now, he didn’t care much about matching social status or family background. What mattered was character.
“Alison Fairchild.”
Everyone in the hall stared at Cassandra in surprise.
Grandfather asked, “Is this the one who received the Lucky Star award at the YD quarterly presentation?”
“I don’t know, Dad, but that’s what Aidan calls her.” Cassandra smiled.
Stephen said, “That girl is quite impressive; she’s very intelligent. She helped a lot with the villa that Rock and I built this time. I’ve heard her speak — she’s very articulate.”
“Yes, I’ve met Alison, too. She’s such a lovely person. Aunt Cassandra, when are they going to marry?” Aimée asked, grinning mischievously. She always enjoyed stirring things up.
“Well, you have to ask Aidan. I’ve only met Miss Fairchild once.” Cassandra smiled.
Isabella froze at the mention of Alison.
Hadn’t Alison already given her two grandchildren? How could she now be linked to Aidan?
This only deepened Isabella’s disdain for Alison. She resolved to keep Jack away from her.
