Chapter 139 Why Do Women Make Things Difficult for Other Women (Part 1)
Alison jolted awake, the blanket slipping off her shoulders and revealing a large expanse of skin on her chest.
"Ah..." she gasped softly, quickly trying to cover herself.
Jack caught the sight in the rearview mirror and smirked mischievously. "Alison, relax. No one can see from outside, and I don't mind the view."
Her cheeks flushed instantly.
"Jack, why are we in the car?"
"You didn't want the kids to worry, so I'm taking you home."
Relieved, she saw some clothes beside her and hurriedly put them on, not wanting him to see her body any longer. It would be too embarrassing.
The sky was just beginning to lighten, and the streets were nearly empty. The Lamborghini cruised smoothly down the road.
Alison was fully awake now. She seemed to have spent the night at his apartment. Remembering last night, her face turned red. She didn't understand why Jack had suddenly changed, but looking at his back, she didn't dare ask.
Once dressed, she gently pulled back the curtain. As long as he wasn't angry with her, she felt particularly good. "Jack, can you open the window? I want to smell the fresh air." She loved the freshness of the morning air.
He obliged, opening the window and watching her happily extend her hand outside. Though it was just a little, he still worried. "Be careful, don't stick your hand out too far."
"No cars around," she said playfully, enjoying the feeling of the wind, like she was flying.
"Alright, just for a bit, then you need to pull it back in," he said indulgently. If she was the woman he thought she might be, if the person in the video wasn't her but the real Emily, he would spoil her forever.
He was looking forward to the day when everything would be clear.
She didn't say anything, but that was okay.
He would find out.
"Jack, I don't want to be Aimée's bridesmaid, okay?" she said softly, taking advantage of his good mood.
"It's still early, we'll talk about it in a few days." He turned the steering wheel, sensing her unease. She didn't want to be Aimée's bridesmaid. "Why, don't you want me to get married?" He was secretly pleased by the thought.
"Actually, your wedding coincides with my kid's birthday, so..." she made up an excuse, just not wanting to be a bridesmaid.
"Then bring the kids along, it'll be more lively."
"Jack, I..." She started to speak but then stopped. Why did he insist on her being Aimée's bridesmaid? She really didn't like it.
By then, the car had already stopped outside her apartment complex.
Jack parked the Lamborghini at the entrance and opened the door for her, grabbing her hand. "Come on, I'll walk you home."
She looked outside. It was fully daylight now, and there were few people on the street, but she was afraid of being seen with Jack holding her hand. "No need, I can go home by myself. Jack, goodbye." She shook off his hand and hurried into the complex.
"Take it easy, wait for my call." Jack didn't really want to walk her upstairs anyway. He had more important things to do. He needed to find out who she really was.
He needed to confirm if she was the person from four years ago.
He couldn't wait, not even for a second.
So, he left in a hurry.
Alison ran as fast as she could, wanting to get as far away from Jack as possible. He was acting so strange, so gentle it was hard to believe.
He had taken her away.
And now he had brought her back.
In her panic, she didn't get far before she collided with a solid chest.
A familiar scent.
She looked up to see Jackson standing in front of her.
He stared at Alison, his fists clenched so tightly his nails dug into his palms, but he didn't feel the pain.
He had seen everything. He saw Jack's car, saw Jack holding her hand. The money, it was from Winston.
So, to pay off the debt, she had spent the whole night with Winston and didn't come home.
He looked at her helplessly and asked, "That money, it was from Winston, wasn't it?"
Her heart skipped a beat. She stared blankly at Jackson, feeling incredibly awkward. She glanced back, but the Lamborghini was long gone.
If only everything could disappear without a trace like that. But she knew Jackson would keep asking.
"I'm tired." She took a step forward, trying to walk past Jackson. She wanted to go home, to see her kids' smiling faces. As for men, she couldn't figure them out.
Suddenly, Jackson grabbed her wrist tightly, with great strength. "If it was, Alison, I'm sorry. But I hope you won't..." He wanted to tell her not to degrade herself like this, but he realized he had no right to say that.
It was all his fault. He had no right to blame her, but it made him feel even worse.
He wished he had been the one to spend the night with her.
But he wasn't.
Reality was cruel, so cruel that he didn't even have the right to feel heartbroken.
He had pushed her towards that man himself.
"Jackson, I'm really tired." She struggled to free her wrist. In this situation, she didn't want this either, but did she have a choice?
His hand slowly loosened, full of reluctance.
"Alison, I'll pay him back the money. Just, please stay away from him, okay?"
A morning breeze blew, lifting her short hair and brushing against her ear, tickling her. "Jackson, it's not your fault. This time, it was my choice."
She confessed.
Her words made Jackson's body tremble and made him feel even more ashamed.
"Alison, it's not worth it for me." It really wasn't worth it. Back then, he hadn't protected her because of Erin. It was his fault. Now, he had hurt her again.
She turned her back to him and said softly, "Whether it's worth it or not, I just want you to be happy." That was her true feeling.
Even though they couldn't be together, those initial feelings of love were still fresh in her memory, impossible to erase.
