Chapter 134 Heart's Palpitation (Part 1)
The city lights were just ahead, and she longed for someone to lean on, a warm haven to call her own.
In this world, she had given up on relying on any man's shoulder because that person simply didn't exist.
Why did her heart feel so desolate?
She had missed out on Jackson, and now, she had turned down Aidan.
It seemed her fate was destined to be lonely.
The streetlights stretched her shadow long and thin, the dappled shadows of trees swaying on the road. Unknowingly, she found herself walking down the path in front of the neighborhood where both Jack and Aidan thought she lived.
With her head down, she trudged along, her steps heavy, her body slightly swaying, revealing her weakness, though she herself was unaware.
As she exited the neighborhood gate, the night had deepened, and there were few pedestrians on the road. The surroundings were unusually quiet.
She walked slowly, and suddenly, the sound of a car engine starting came from behind her.
She smiled, thinking it had nothing to do with her, and continued walking.
But the car drew closer, its headlights illuminating the road ahead, bright as day.
She walked on quietly, and the car that had been behind her suddenly stopped, right beside her.
She didn't think much of it, still considering the driver a stranger.
However, a familiar presence approached. Before she could turn her head, an arm grabbed her forcefully, pulling her into the car. She landed hard on the passenger seat, and the door slammed shut.
She looked at Jack in terror. He was already seated next to her, starting his white Lamborghini.
His expression was stern, reminding her of that time in the woods, after which she had his child.
Her hands trembled as she reached for the door handle to escape. She had to get away; she had had enough.
But as soon as her hand touched the button, his cold voice came through: "The main switch is with me. Don't waste your energy."
His voice sent a chill through her.
She wanted to ask why he was near her place, but when she opened her mouth, she found she couldn't speak.
With a flick of his hand, the Lamborghini shot forward like an arrow.
Alison didn't know how to drive and had no idea how fast he was going, but from the sensation of speeding, she could tell it was far beyond normal limits.
He was racing, weaving the Lamborghini through the bustling streets, narrowly avoiding other cars and pedestrians time and again.
Alison sat quietly. Each close call made her heart race, but she knew that if she spoke, his anger would only grow.
She couldn't understand why he was so angry. Was it because he saw her with Aidan that afternoon?
But what he saw wasn't the truth.
Besides, she wasn't married, and he wasn't going to marry her. Even if she was with Aidan, what was wrong with that?
Couldn't he use his brain and think it through? He wasn't the only one who was angry; she was furious too! It was because of her anger that she had gone out alone in the middle of the night to cool off, only to be caught by him.
Just then, another car brushed past the Lamborghini, scaring Alison into a cold sweat.
"Talk!" After a long silence, he suddenly spoke, startling her.
What was she supposed to say?
Explain?
He wouldn't believe her!
She smiled faintly, letting him do as he pleased. After all, she owed him $120,000.
Debts had to be repaid, just like the debt she owed Jackson.
"Talk!" His voice rose, almost a shout, as he turned to her coldly.
"Talk about what?" she responded calmly, still looking out the window. Let him drive. If she could die with him, she would be willing.
If it weren't for the kids, if it weren't for finding the culprit, she wouldn't want to live in this world anymore.
There was really nothing left to hold on to.
Though choosing death was the weakest act, sometimes she really wanted to be selfish, even if it meant leaving this world forever.
"Why my brother?" He finally couldn't hold back. After leaving Aidan's place, he hadn't gone to pick out any wedding dresses. He was losing his mind, not understanding what was happening. He had driven Aimée away and driven around the streets like a madman until the Lamborghini ended up in front of the neighborhood where she "lived." Only then did he realize why he was so out of control.
It was all because of her. His brother had already let her go, hadn't he? She must have clung to him again.
She remained silent because she didn't know how to explain.
"Was it for money? How much did you borrow from my brother?" he guessed wildly. Every time he encountered her, he lost all reason.
"No, I didn't borrow money from Aidan," she said helplessly. If she could have borrowed from Aidan, she wouldn't have gone to Jack, nor would she be trapped in Jack's world.
"Then why?" He suddenly made a sharp turn, urgently steering the car, pressing her for answers. He was going crazy.
Why did he care so much?
He shouldn't be like this.
The women he had discarded had all found new loves.
But even if he saw those women proudly walking past him with other men, he would never look back, never be moved.
He never went back to old flames.
But this woman had disrupted his thoughts, making him so crazily bring her out now.
"Because of the kids," she finally told the truth. Because the kids had gone to Aidan, she had to go get them.
He understood. So Sophia and Ethan were Aidan's illegitimate children.
Alison and Aidan had hidden it well.
"Haha, you really can endure," he said. Aidan neither gave her a title nor acknowledged the kids, yet she didn't mind. She was truly a woman who didn't fight for anything. Maybe that was her only virtue.
