Chapter 121: Overheard (Part 2)

Chapter 121 Unexpectedly Overheard (Part 2)

Jack nodded, "Not bad." It was pretty tasty, no wonder she was enjoying it so much.

"Why don't you have some too? It's no fun eating alone." Alison pushed the burger, fries, and a Coke towards Jack. "And it goes perfectly with an ice-cold Coke."

Seeing her enthusiasm, he accepted the burger she handed him, and they started eating together.

Before long, the food was all gone.

Alison finished first and watched him eat from across the table. When he was halfway through, she turned to the chubby waitress and said, "Can we get two more orders of fries?" She was sure he liked them since his fries had already disappeared.

Jack didn't hold back anymore, thinking the food here was pretty good. He decided to have lunch here. He suddenly realized that even a fast-food joint had its charm, giving off a cozy vibe.

But he didn't know that the warmth actually came from the person sitting across from him.

Even though he started eating later than her, he didn't eat slowly. As soon as he finished, she got up to pay, but he grabbed her hand and said, "When a guy takes a girl out, he should pay."

She stuck out her tongue playfully and didn't argue. As long as he wasn't giving her the cold shoulder or saying hurtful things, she was content.

It turned out, her contentment was that simple.

After eating, they walked out of the small restaurant one after the other. The waitress looked at them enviously and said, "Miss, you're so lucky. Your boyfriend is really considerate."

Alison was taken aback and was about to explain, but Jack took her hand and led her out of the restaurant, as if afraid she might clarify things.

Alison checked the time and said, "Jack, why don't we sign those documents in the car?" As soon as they left the restaurant, reality pulled her back to the harsh situation she had to face.

"Let's go to the apartment instead. We can pick up some groceries on the way. You promised me yesterday that you'd cook noodles for me tonight," Jack said.

"But we just ate," she said, her heart skipping a beat, trying to change his dinner plans.

"Fine, whatever you cook tonight, I'll eat. I just want to eat what you make," he said, decisively setting the evening's plan.

She sighed inwardly, feeling completely controlled by him, and nodded in agreement. The sunlight shone on her hair, turning it golden and making her look like an angel. At that moment, he was mesmerized.

Just then, his phone rang, and Alison felt a sense of relief, hoping someone needed him. She was afraid that spending the day alone with him would make her too nervous.

The scar on her chest was still a knot in her heart, one she couldn't untangle.

"What? Mom, what did you say?" he asked, surprised.

"…"

"Okay, I'll go to the hospital right away." He hung up quickly.

Jack turned to her, "Do you have money with you?"

She nodded, "Yes, I do."

"Then go to the supermarket and buy some groceries. Have them delivered to the apartment. The key is under the flowerpot by the door. I'll be back later." With that, he was about to leave.

"Jack, about the money..." Alison started, trying to bring up the $1.2 million they needed.

"Oh, right!" He slapped his forehead, pulled out a bank card, and leaned in close to her ear, whispering the PIN. He didn't care who was around.

Listening to his voice and feeling his heartbeat, she was in a daze as he left.

Watching his white Lamborghini drive away, she guessed something must have happened to Aimée.

But she really didn't have any good feelings towards Aimée. She still couldn't understand why Aimée would harm her own child. Because she couldn't understand, she also understood why Jack didn't believe her.

After all, no mother would want to kill her own child for no reason.

He was gone, and she knew he wouldn't be back until the evening.

So, she decided to use the afternoon to rescue Jackson.

Alison hailed a cab and headed straight to Rebel.

At this time, Rebel's main entrance was still closed since it wasn't open yet.

Rebel was a place of debauchery, with a schedule completely opposite to normal people.

She went around to the back door and pushed it open. The backyard was quiet. She remembered the person who took Jackson said to find Liam to save him.

She navigated the corridors with ease. This place had been her nightmare, and every time she thought of it, it brought her immense pain.

She knew Liam often stayed at Rebel, sleeping in the innermost room of the VIP section.

Wearing high heels, her steps were silent on the carpet. As she reached the door, she was about to knock when she heard voices inside.

"That woman didn't find out anything, right?" a man's voice asked.

"No, luckily you replaced everyone. With just Ian's word, she can't find out anything. We need to be careful if the old crew comes back," another man replied.

"This must stay between us. If anyone else finds out, we're exposed," the first man said.

"Of course, we got paid for this," the second man answered.

"I wonder what that woman went through after being taken. She came back to investigate the past," the first man said again.

"Who knows? She's pretty and sings well. If it weren't for Jackson, I would've wanted to have her," the second man added.

Alison's heart pounded as she listened at the door, but she knew the most important thing now was to find Liam and save Jackson.

"Liam, you need to be careful. This woman isn't simple. If you mess with her, you'll get into a lot of trouble."

"Alright, I'll hold back. But if I can't control myself one day, don't blame me."

Inside, the two men laughed heartily, and she realized she had become their topic of idle chatter. She heard everything, confirming that Rebel was indeed involved in the past events.

She lowered her hand, knowing she couldn't knock now, or it would arouse suspicion from Eva, the manager, and Liam.

If it weren't for Jackson always watching over Rebel and her, she would've been...

Thinking about it now, she was terrified.

Inside, the two men continued drinking and talking dirty. She couldn't listen anymore.
