Chapter 104 Love is Selfish
She would never have Aidan's child.
She was doing all this for love. First, to get rid of the trouble in her belly, and second, to make Jack disgusted with Alison. This way, no matter how much Alison looked like Emily, she wouldn't be afraid anymore.
After all, Jack was a man who couldn't tolerate any deceit.
Now, she just had to wait for her plan to unfold smoothly.
Without thinking, Alison bent down, picked up the basket of greens, and handed it to Aimée. "Aimée, this is light and doesn't smell. Carry it slowly and don't drop it," she instructed, unaware that Aimée had been waiting for this moment for a long time.
Aimée glanced in Aidan's direction, saw him approaching, and reached out to take the basket from Alison. But as soon as her hand touched the basket, she suddenly leaned forward as if by accident, and without a scream, she fell straight ahead.
Alison reacted quickly, dropping the basket and reaching out to catch Aimée. But Aimée grabbed her hand, not to steady herself, but to pull Alison down with her. "Alison, you..."
Before she could finish, they both fell into a pile of rocks. At that moment, Aidan was stepping over a rock, and when he heard the noise, he looked up just in time to see Alison and Aimée falling together.
"Alison..."
"Alison..."
Two men, from different positions, called out the same name simultaneously.
Tears streamed down Aimée's face.
A person's first reaction reveals the truth.
It seemed her feeling was right; Jack did care about Alison. Otherwise, he should have called out Aimée's name, especially since everyone thought Aimée was carrying his child.
But he didn't call her name.
Aimée clutched Alison's hand tightly, pain radiating from her lower body, but she couldn't stop laughing coldly. This child was never meant to be born. Seeing Aidan approaching, she bit her lip and said with a trembling voice, "Alison, why did you pull me down? Tell me, why? My baby, my baby..." Aimée screamed hysterically, as if she had lost her mind.
"Alison, what happened?" Aidan, standing among the rocks, was also panicked. He didn't dare to act rashly. If Aimée's child was really lost, Isabella would surely blame Alison. He instinctively wanted to protect Alison.
"I... I didn't." Alison tried to stay calm. She really hadn't pulled Aimée down; she had just tried to catch her. But Aimée claimed she had pulled her down.
Jack arrived, seeing the blood quickly spreading among the rocks, a stark red.
"Jack, save our baby." Aimée's face was full of tears, but she was more upset that Jack had called out Alison's name instead of hers.
Aimée's tears made Jack furious.
He raised his hand, coldly looking at Alison, and slapped her hard, the sound ringing in Alison's ears...
But what hurt more was her heart.
"Tell me, why did you push Aimée?" Jack's eyes were like knives, piercing Alison's heart. He had misjudged her. She wasn't just a face like Emily's; her heart was just as dark.
Alison stared blankly at Jack. Her leg hurt, but her heart hurt more. Because in Jack's eyes and heart, there was only Aimée. After all, Aimée was carrying his child, and she was nothing now.
He didn't trust her.
But Alison really hadn't hurt Aimée, she really hadn't...
What was supposed to be a joyful camping trip was now completely ruined.
Alison's lips trembled, and she finally managed to speak, but her voice was weak, "I didn't."
"Aimée, how did you fall?" Jack asked. He had been setting up the tent and only saw Aimée and Alison falling together when he heard Aimée's scream.
Aimée opened her mouth, her face pale, the pain in her lower body unbearable. If she had known it would hurt this much, she wouldn't have fallen so hard.
"Jack, don't ask questions now. Just get Aimée to the hospital. The baby is the priority," Aidan said, noticing the tears in Alison's eyes and her distressed expression. He believed Alison. She had been honest about losing her virginity; she wouldn't lie about this. But the situation was too chaotic to explain in a few words.
And Aimée was carrying Jack's child. The baby was a big deal. Thinking of this, Aidan tried to mediate, urging Jack to focus on Aimée and temporarily let Alison go.
Jack glanced at Alison again. Although he didn't like Aimée, his mother was returning soon. If Aimée lost the baby, he wouldn't be able to explain it.
He gently picked up Aimée, blood still flowing down her leg. "Aimée, can you hold on?"
"Jack, save the baby, save our baby." Aimée finally got what she wanted. This way, she made Jack hate Alison and got rid of the child she didn't want.
The pain was both excruciating and satisfying for her. She wished the baby would be lost now, so she wouldn't have to worry about it anymore. She wrapped her arms around Jack's neck, feeling his breath, not regretting her actions at all. When she looked at the pale-faced Alison, a hint of triumph appeared on her face.
"Alison, are you okay?" After Jack left with Aimée, Aidan bent down and asked Alison with concern.
Alison gritted her teeth, the pain in her calf making her frown. She held onto a nearby rock, struggling to stand up. "Aidan, I'm fine. Take me to Aimée. I can't let anything happen to her." She meant it. Although she sometimes envied Aimée and felt a pang of sadness knowing Aimée lived with Jack, she never wanted to harm Aimée.
"Alison, did you really not push Aimée?" Aidan asked.
Alison shook her head. "I really didn't push or pull her. Believe me." She carefully recalled the situation and realized she hadn't done anything.
Her eyes were clear and sincere, not like someone lying. This made Aidan ponder. If it wasn't Alison, then it had to be Aimée herself.
Could it be that Aimée didn't want the baby?
But that seemed impossible.
Everyone knew Aimée had been waiting for Jack for five years.
Such a long time, if there was no love, she couldn't have waited so long.
But if she really loved him, why would she harm their child?
At that moment, Aidan was deeply confused.
"Alison, don't think too much. I'll help you stand up slowly. If you can't walk, I'll carry you down the mountain," Aidan said.
"Thank you, Aidan." At this moment, compared to Jack's coldness and distrust, Aidan's concern brought her some comfort.
But the inner turmoil and pain remained.
Jack didn't trust her.
Alison tried to stand up, but immediately sat back down, the pain in her calf unbearable.
"Alison, what's wrong?" Aidan quickly supported her, letting her sit on a rock, then rolled up her loose pants to find her calf injured and bleeding. "Come on, I'll carry you down the mountain." Aidan had injured his leg in Paris before and knew the pain.
He worried Alison might refuse, but she couldn't walk now and had to accept his help.
Holding the light Alison, he felt her so close, even hearing their heartbeats.
Suddenly, he remembered that night, the woman with a faint mint scent, which Alison didn't have.
Who was that woman?
"Alison, in Paris, besides me, who else went to your room?" Aidan asked.
Alison's cheeks flushed slightly. She thought Aidan was suspecting her relationship with Jack. After hesitating, she said, "Only Aimée and Jack that morning." She didn't want Aidan to know Jack had been to her room, applying medicine and drying her hair. Those memories were sweet, but Jack didn't have her in his heart.
That morning, Aidan had indeed seen Aimée and Jack.
Again, Aimée.
Aimée seemed to have deliberately given up the baby.
All the clues connected at that moment.
Could it be Aimée?
