Chapter 101 Unable to Tolerate (Part 2)
Thanks to Jack's help, Alison managed to finish the villa appraisal report just in time. He taught her a lot, and she learned a ton from the experience.
The next few days were pretty chill. Jack and Aidan didn't show up, but she kept hearing gossip about them. It seemed like they were back to their old ways, and Aidan had forgotten about her.
Maybe they had also forgotten about the camping trip. That would be fine with her; she wouldn't have to pretend with Aidan anymore.
Now, she paid special attention to anyone she met from YD, especially women who had worked there three years ago. She kept mental notes of all these potential clues.
But there were so many female employees at YD, it made her head spin. Everyone looked similar yet different. They all had the same indifferent expression when they looked at her. But she was sure that the person she was looking for would be surprised to see her.
Unfortunately, she was out in the open while the other person was hidden. It was like searching for a needle in a haystack.
No matter what, she was determined to keep going.
She just wanted to clear her name.
There are no secrets that time does not reveal, so she believed she would eventually find the person behind it all.
Every day, she went to work and came home as usual. She still visited Rebel, and during this time, she reconnected with Jackson and the bartender from back then. These were small victories that gave her hope.
Aidan had previously asked her to get a medical check-up, saying it was for her to become a permanent employee. But there had been no news from the company in the past few days. Alison didn't mind; her purpose at YD wasn't to work but to uncover the truth.
While entering data that Lucas had given her, she suddenly sensed someone behind her.
"Manager McLean, I'll have this done soon and hand it in before the end of the day," Alison said, thinking it was Manager McLean coming to check on the report.
"Miss Fairchild, put that aside for now. The manager wants to see you."
"Oh, it's you." Alison turned around and saw Aidan's assistant, who mainly handled matters outside the company.
"Yeah, follow me." Noah nodded and turned to leave. It was the president's order; he just needed to bring her there.
Alison frowned slightly. Was she being transferred? Was she supposed to report to the HR manager first?
"Manager McLean, Noah asked me to see the HR manager, but this report..." She hadn't finished it yet, and she knew Manager McLean was in a hurry to get it.
"No problem, I'll find someone else to finish it. You go ahead. If you get promoted, don't forget about us in the procurement department."
"Manager, I won't. I'm just a new employee; there's no promotion for me. I'm just happy to have a job that keeps me secure." She kept a low profile, not wanting to attract jealousy by standing out too much.
"Go on, I heard you're being transferred, but I don't know to which position."
"As long as I can stay at YD, I'll do anything." Alison remained humble. Although she didn't think much of Manager McLean, she had learned a lot from her. Everyone has their strengths, and mutual learning is the way to go.
During her interview, she had been impressed by Manager Eva, who had strongly recommended her for a good position in the foreign trade department. Unfortunately, right after she passed the interview, Aidan had taken an interest in her.
As soon as she sat down, Manager Eva asked politely, "Miss Fairchild, how are you finding your work in the procurement department?"
"It's been good." Alison smiled slightly. She remembered this serious and talent-spotting woman clearly, as her own suggestions had once been adopted by her.
"You've been performing well and showing great potential. The company has decided to give you a new task, starting tomorrow."
"What task?" Alison asked. She had the right to know what her new job entailed.
"You'll find out tomorrow. I'll let Manager McLean know. You should also hand over your work to his new secretary, and you can leave the procurement department tomorrow."
"So soon?" Alison was a bit taken aback. Was she being transferred to the foreign trade department? Was there another employee going on maternity leave?
"This is a directive from above, and they're in a hurry. You don't have any objections, do you?"
What could she say? It seemed impossible to stay low-key at YD now, so she might as well go with the flow.
"Alright, I'll follow the company's arrangements."
Alison began handing over her work to Manager McLean's new secretary, but she couldn't shake the feeling that something was off about this transfer.
She got up early the next day, wanting to make a good impression on her new boss. After all, she planned to stay at YD until she found the person she was looking for.
As she was about to head to the elevator, the receptionist called out to her, "Alison, here's your new employee ID card."
Alison took it and saw that it said "Secretary."
She was puzzled and asked, "Which department manager am I the secretary for?"
The receptionist replied, "Manager Eva said to go to the president's office first. The president has something to discuss with you."
Alison wondered to herself. She hadn't seen Aidan in days, and there were rumors in the company that he was getting close to Miss Sherry. She always just smiled and brushed it off; they had no real relationship anyway.
Fine, she'd go. It was just work, after all. Maybe the person she was looking for was close to Aidan. To uncover the truth, she had to be open to everything.
She knocked lightly on the door, recalling Manager Eva's expression when she spoke to her yesterday. Was it Aidan?
"Come in." A deep, pleasant voice called out. At first, she thought it was Jack, but she quickly realized it was Aidan.
Alison pushed the door open and walked in. Aidan was looking down at some documents and didn't even glance up, motioning for her to sit.
Alison quietly sat in the chair opposite Aidan. He remained silent, focused on his papers.
The air was thick with a strange tension. Alison broke the silence, "President, what do you need from me? I'd like to get it done quickly."
Aidan finally looked up. He had been debating whether to contact Alison again. He had been with many women, but Alison's image kept popping into his mind. Even when he was with other women, he thought of her.
That night, the woman wasn't her, but her honesty had left a strange impression on him. Sometimes, people don't cherish what they get easily, but they can't forget what they can't have.
He realized he might actually like Alison.
He pointed to a stack of documents on the desk, which Claire had organized, "Take these documents to the computer outside, enter the data, and then proofread them before bringing them back to me."
Alison was stunned. Was Aidan assigning her work? "President, what exactly is my new job?"
"You're my secretary," Aidan blurted out. This was the decision he had made after days of consideration.
So, her guess in the elevator was right. Aidan wanted her to be his secretary.
"Alright, I'll get to work then." Alison didn't protest. As long as she put her heart into it, any job was the same. Plus, with Claire outside, she could minimize her interactions with Aidan. With that thought, she bent down to pick up the documents and prepared to leave.
"Wait," Aidan suddenly called out.
"Yes?" Alison was confused. What else did Aidan want? She had already made it clear that the woman from that night wasn't her. Even if it was, she didn't care and wouldn't pursue it.
"Tomorrow, we're going camping. You promised," Aidan said, his eyes fixed on her. She had indeed promised him and Jack.
"Okay, what time do we leave?" Alison wasn't one to break her promises.
"At dawn. I'll pick you up."
Alison hesitated slightly and said, "I'll just take a cab there myself."
Aidan's expression hardened slightly, "No, I'll pick you up. Be ready."
"Alright, see you then," Alison replied, deciding not to argue. She left the office, feeling a mix of anticipation and unease about the upcoming trip.
