Chapter 63
This didn't surprise me at all.
After all, with such a scandal, the company's stock price was bound to fluctuate. I just wonder how the Taylors will deal with Susan in this situation.
I was afraid they wouldn't let her off easy!
What I didn't expect was that Susan's parents would come looking for me.
I agreed to meet them outside. When I arrived, they had already been waiting for a while. As soon as they saw me, they jumped up from their chairs and rushed over.
"Nancy, you used to come to our house for dinner all the time. Why haven't you been coming lately?" Nora Taylor said with a smile, though it didn't reach her eyes—just surface-level warmth.
I tilted my head.
Looks like Nora was planning to brush this whole thing aside.
But how could something like this be so easily brushed aside?
I smiled and sat across from them. "After all, my relationship with Susan is over. She's with my ex-boyfriend and pregnant with his child. I may be soft-hearted, but I haven't lost all sense of judgment."
Steven Taylor coughed, and Nora immediately grabbed my hand.
"We didn't raise our daughter right, but even without Susan, I still see you as my own child, Nancy. You know that, right? I've always treated you well."
I could pretty much guess what they were thinking.
They didn't want their daughter anymore, but they didn't want to lose me either. After all, I now had not just the Smith family behind me, but also Michael.
If I implicated the Taylor family over this, they'd be in trouble.
Not to mention, if they could stay on good terms with me and get Michael's help, the Taylor family could thrive.
But...
"Forget it. Susan really broke my heart." I shook my head, acting truly heartbroken.
Nora looked anxious. "Susan made mistakes, but I didn't do anything wrong."
"But she's your daughter." I delivered the final blow.
Steven, who had been silent, suddenly spoke up. "Susan's misconduct has hurt the family. The Taylor family will publicly announce we're cutting ties with her. Nancy, would that satisfy you?"
I smiled. "How could that work? Susan's already miserable enough. If the Taylor family abandons her too, she won't survive."
"Nancy, Susan went too far. She deserves it." Steven spoke righteously, as if he truly knew nothing about what had happened.
"Mr. Taylor, Mrs. Taylor, this has nothing to do with me anymore." I sighed without directly responding to them.
But if they wanted to curry favor with me, they'd have to deal with Susan.
And that was exactly what happened.
The Taylor family chose to completely cut ties with Susan, though not entirely for my sake, also to save the Taylor family's stock price.
Besides that, I heard John had his inheritance reduced as well.
A couple of days later, I contacted Simon and learned they'd tried everything but couldn't get the money back from Susan. The money really seemed to be invested overseas with nothing left.
On top of that, with my guidance, they naturally went to John to collect the debt. John was understandably stressed, and probably no longer felt the same passion for Susan.
Turning off my phone, I couldn't control the smile on my face.
Now it was time for me to make my appearance.
When I arrived at the hospital, John's call came through.
I didn't hesitate and answered.
"Nancy, did you see the recent news? I can explain—Susan and I aren't like that." John's voice was nearly breaking down.
I smirked. John could still come to me with explanations at this point; I'd underestimated him.
"Oh," I responded coldly.
"But this has nothing to do with me. I already have a fiancé. Who you're with doesn't concern me."
"It's not like that!" John's voice grew louder. "We're supposed to be together! We used to love each other so much. It's all Susan—Susan came between us. She seduced me, but in my heart, you're the one I truly love!"
I spoke quietly. "Are you sure you're not saying this because I'm the only one who can help you now?"
John paused, apparently organizing his words.
Too bad he didn't know that no matter what he said, I would never believe him.
I turned the corner and saw John standing guard at the ward door, his hand trembling as he held his phone. But on the phone, his voice was full of misery and guilt.
Yet I could see his face was full of viciousness—where was the guilt? It was all an act for me.
"Nancy, that's not what I mean. Even if I'm not the Brown family heir, I can make a comeback. Wait for me—I love you."
I walked up beside John. The voice from the phone and his real voice reached his ears simultaneously. "John, what makes you think I'd wait for you after you betrayed me? Do you deserve it?"
John's head snapped up. "Nancy, why are you here... You came for me, right? You still love me."
I pushed the door open and saw Susan lying in the hospital bed.
Susan had already heard what John said outside. Her face was pale, and anger was practically spilling from her eyes, especially when she saw me.
But she quickly covered it up.
Because right now, besides me, no one could help her!
"Nancy, you came to see me." Susan smiled at me. "I knew it—you're the one who cares about me most. No matter what others think of me, you understand me."
John stood at the door, silent, clearly assessing the situation.
I sat down beside Susan's bed with a smile. "Understand you? You mean that I understand you sleeping with my boyfriend and getting pregnant with his child?"
Susan gritted her teeth. "Nancy, it's not like that. Let me explain—the media got it all wrong."
I smiled at Susan, waiting for her clumsy performance.
At this point, what could she possibly say?
"Nancy, you'll believe me, right?"
But she couldn't come up with any excuse.
She grabbed my hand desperately.
I smirked. "Do I really look like that much of a fool?"
Only then did Susan realize I wasn't here to comfort her—I was here to deliver the final blow.
She stared at me intently. "So? What are you here to do?"
I smiled. "Of course, to tell you that the overseas company you dealt with was a gift I specially prepared for you."
This seemed to confirm what Susan had been thinking.
She glared at me through clenched teeth. "It was you!"
