Chapter 14
Looking at Michael's eyes, I didn't know what to feel for a moment.
It seemed like no matter what, Michael always put my feelings first.
I only blamed myself for being such a poor judge of character, wasting all that time with Michael and even misunderstanding him.
I looked at Michael and nodded gently in response, "Yes, I trust you'll keep me safe."
As I spoke, I held his arm tighter.
I didn't even realize it myself, but Michael had unknowingly become my source of confidence and the person I instinctively relied on.
Seeing how sweet we looked together, Susan became even more jealous.
Especially the way Michael had just stood up for me really got to her.
I ignored Susan and walked into the office with Michael.
After finishing the business meeting, I personally saw Michael out.
Just as we reached the entrance, I saw a familiar black Cayenne parked at the Smith Group's main gate.
I recognized it as John's car right away.
Suddenly, I had a bad feeling about this.
Seeing me with Michael, John didn't react much but got out of the car and walked toward me excitedly.
"Nancy, I finally get to see you." John completely ignored Michael, speaking with urgency in his voice.
Although I didn't know what John wanted from me, my instinct told me that getting tangled up with him wasn't a smart choice, especially with Michael right there.
I didn't say anything and instinctively took a step back, deliberately putting distance between John and me.
At that moment, quite a few Smith Group employees had also come out.
Seeing the three of us together, their eyes showed something subtle, but given Michael's position, no one dared say much. They just glanced a few times and hurried away.
After all, my current status was Michael's fiancée, and the fact that I used to chase after John was widely known.
"What are you doing here?" I asked John coldly.
With so many people around, I didn't want to cause any misunderstandings.
But John didn't see it that way. He caught me off guard and grabbed my hand tightly, continuing to pester me. "Nancy, are you still mad at me? Can we just live our lives together properly?"
Before I could answer, Michael reacted before me and threw a hard punch.
"Let go. Nancy is my fiancée. John, what do you mean by repeatedly harassing my fiancée?"
John's head jerked to the side from the hit, but he quickly recovered and got into a conflict with him. "Michael, the person Nancy loves in her heart is me. Who knows what tricks you used to get her to agree to the engagement? Did you threaten her?"
These words seemed to trigger something in Michael. He struck again, his eyes cold as ice. "Either way, you shouldn't keep harassing her."
Although Michael's expression didn't change, I still detected a hint of disappointment in his tone.
Maybe John's words just now hit a nerve.
But I could understand. After all, the day before our engagement, I was planning to run away.
It was normal for him not to trust me.
After being hit by Michael several times in a row, John felt he'd lost face and started fighting back.
Seeing John's move, I immediately reacted.
"Security, security!" I called out loudly for security, then pulled Michael back.
The security guards moved pretty quickly and got John under control in no time, temporarily ending this scene.
My action upset John, and he questioned me. "Nancy, what's the meaning of this? Tell them to let me go right now."
During the fight, John was no match for Michael and took several solid hits. Now being restrained, he naturally felt unwilling.
I ignored John and instead actively moved closer to Michael.
As the distance closed, I saw Michael's Adam's apple move involuntarily when our eyes met.
I smiled slightly and deliberately touched his Adam's apple, then gently placed a kiss on it.
The moment the kiss landed, I felt Michael's body stiffen involuntarily.
Then I stood on my tiptoes, grabbed Michael's tie, and pulled him closer to me.
My steady breathing fell on his face, and he didn't dare move an inch.
"He's not in my heart anymore, and he never will be again." I looked into Michael's eyes and seriously made my feelings clear.
Before Michael could react, I kissed him deeply on the lips.
After seeing this, John broke down even more and even said something nasty. "Nancy, how can you be so shameless?"
As soon as he said that, Michael took control and wrapped his arm around my waist, deepening that kiss.
Before I knew it, my relationship with him had become intimate again.
John was so provoked his eyes turned red.
Looking at John like this, a smile curved at the corner of my lips.
"Annie, Mr. Brown is injured and starting to talk nonsense. Help send him to the hospital." I nestled in Michael's arms and gave Annie instructions.
This happened to be an opportunity for Annie to get close to him.
Annie quickly understood what I meant and hurried over to John. "Mr. Brown, let me take you to the hospital. Your wounds need treatment."
Michael hadn't held back at all earlier. John's face now had quite a few bruises, and even the corner of his mouth was bleeding slightly. He looked seriously injured.
"No need." But John wasn't going to accept the favor. He didn't care about the blood at the corner of his mouth and continued speaking to me. "Nancy, you're doing this to make me angry, aren't you? I know. Let's make up. We'll be together properly from now on."
Michael, who I'd just calmed down, got angry again after hearing John's words.
Seeing Michael raise his hand again, I gently held it and patted it to comfort him.
Feeling my gesture, Michael's emotions stabilized, but his gaze toward John was still frightening.
"John, my fiancé hurt you and I'll compensate for the medical expenses, but his attitude is my attitude. There's nothing else to say. I find it disgusting." After saying that, I took Michael's hand and left, not giving John another glance.
Seeing this, Annie once again offered to take John to the hospital.
After seeing Michael off, I went back to the office to handle work.
Not long after, Annie called to report her progress. "Ms. Smith, John asked me to stay at the hospital, but he's still a bit wary of me."
I was surprised by how quickly Annie moved and asked curiously, "What did you say to him?"
Annie didn't hide anything and told me everything that happened at the hospital. "At first he didn't agree to let me stay, but then I told him about my feelings for him and hinted that I was fed up with you, and I successfully stayed."
After hearing the report, I couldn't help but mock him. "He really never changes."
From what I knew about John, if he let Annie stay, nine times out of ten he was planning to use her again to get at me.
But all of this was within my plan. "Proceed as planned. Contact me if there are any problems."
