Chapter 10
A helpless sense of despair took over me completely.
I wanted to break free and run, but the man pinned me down so hard I couldn't move at all.
Tears streamed down my face uselessly.
I thought being reborn would change everything, but now I was being plotted against and suffering this humiliation again.
Even though I couldn't break free, I didn't want to give up.
I bit down hard on the man's shoulder, using almost all my strength, biting until his flesh bled.
The taste of blood filled my mouth again. I couldn't tell if it was the man's blood or blood from my own tongue.
After I bit him, the man jerked up from me in pain, and before I could react, he slapped me hard across the face.
My ears rang from the blow.
"Bitch, how dare you bite me. I'm going to make you suffer today." The man cursed at me while checking his wound.
Just then, there was a loud crash.
The private room door was suddenly kicked open from outside.
Instinctively, I wanted to call for help.
But before I could speak, I saw who it was.
It was Michael.
In that moment, my heart, which had been dead inside, sparked with hope again.
Whether in my past life or now, in moments of crisis, the person who always saved me was Michael.
"Michael, I'm scared." I reached out to him, my voice breaking into sobs I couldn't control.
Hearing my voice, Michael immediately rushed toward me.
Seeing me barely clothed like this, his eyes showed not just anger but also heartache.
Michael quickly took off his suit jacket and wrapped it around me, crouching in front of me to comfort me gently. "Nancy, I'm sorry I came late. It's okay, I'm here now."
Meanwhile, the man whose plans had been interrupted was furious.
The man pointed at Michael angrily. "Where did this bastard come from? Do you know who I am? You dare ruin my fun? I don't think you want to survive in Emerald City anymore. Get lost now."
After calming me down a bit, Michael turned his attention to the man.
As he stood up, the coldness radiating from him was impossible to hide. "You're asking for death. You dare touch my woman?"
Without giving the man a chance to react, Michael kicked him.
Michael used full force with that kick. The man couldn't dodge in time and was kicked in the stomach, stumbling backward several steps.
After recovering, the man grabbed a bottle from the table and charged at Michael with red eyes.
Seeing this, I couldn't help but get nervous and instinctively warned him. "Michael, watch out!"
Michael didn't dodge. Instead, he grabbed the man's wrist with his bare hand, then punched him in the face.
Michael's moves were fast, precise, and brutal. After just a few hits, the man was no match for him.
Realizing he'd messed with the wrong person, the man immediately backed down and begged Michael for mercy. "Sir, I really didn't know she was your woman. I was wrong. Please spare me this once. I won't dare again."
Michael completely ignored the man's pleas. Instead, he kicked him to the ground and landed several more punches.
Michael's punches were brutal. After just a few hits, the man who had been begging for mercy was coughing up blood and passed out.
I was terrified, worried things would get out of hand, and called out softly. "Michael, stop. You can't kill him."
Only when my voice rang out did the violence in Michael ease slightly. He casually wiped the blood off his hands before standing up.
When Michael looked at me again, his eyes had softened. He quickly came over and held me tightly in his arms. "It's okay now, Nancy."
Only when I felt the warmth of Michael's embrace did I believe this was all real.
I cried helplessly.
The emotion was mixed with both relief and fear.
"Michael, thank god you came. I was so scared just now. If you hadn't saved me, I don't know what would have happened." I buried my head tightly in his chest, pouring out my fear.
Seeing me keep crying, Michael carefully cupped my face like I was precious treasure.
"Nancy, don't be afraid. I'm here. It's my fault for not protecting you. It will never happen again." He wiped the tears from my face and carefully smoothed my hair.
But I couldn't control my emotions and cried even harder.
Michael became more flustered and could only clumsily try to wipe my tears.
I didn't know if I was tired from crying or if it was the drugs, but I felt dizzy and lost consciousness in Michael's arms.
When I woke up again, the smell of disinfectant filled my nose.
Looking at the ceiling and the IV in my hand, I realized I was in a hospital.
Not long after I woke up, the police came to the room with Michael. "Hello, Ms. Smith. We received a report from Mr. Johnson. We'd like to understand what happened."
Having just woken up with my consciousness barely returned, seeing the two police officers in front of me left me feeling a bit dazed.
Even so, I forced myself to sit up.
Seeing my movement, Michael helped me up from the bed and put a pillow behind my back. "If you're not feeling well, you don't have to give a statement now."
I shook my head and spoke to the police. "I can cooperate."
After the police turned on their recording equipment, they began asking questions normally. "Ms. Smith, please try to recall what happened that day."
I rubbed my temples and told them honestly. "In the private room, I had about three drinks. I felt a bit stuffy so I went out for air. Sarah offered to take me to the restroom. As soon as I went in, someone knocked me out. When I woke up, I had no strength in my body. Someone must have drugged me. I was locked in a private room, and there was a man trying to assault me."
After recording what I said, the police turned to question Michael. "Mr. Johnson, you're the one who saved Ms. Smith. We'd also like to know how you discovered she was missing."
Michael thought for a moment, then spoke slowly. "My fiancée went to the restroom and didn't return for a long time. Out of concern, I asked Sarah, but she claimed not to know anything. I contacted the club and demanded to see the surveillance footage, but Sarah strongly objected. I gave her a stern warning, and through the surveillance, I discovered that after Sarah left, my fiancée was taken away."
After hearing Michael's words, I voiced my suspicion. "Sir, Sarah was closest to me that day. I suspect she might have put something in my drink."
After saying this, I couldn't help but observe Michael's reaction.
After all, Sarah had a close relationship with him, and I felt a bit uncertain about going up against her.
Noticing my gaze, Michael gently held my hand and reassured me softly. "Don't worry. I won't let anyone who hurt you get away with it."
