Chapter 65 Backstab
Chapter 65 Backstab
"Lila, it's bad! Killian's guys are after me, and I'm about to collapse. If you don't come get me, you'll only see my corpse next time!"
Jason Miller's voice was choked with tears, and the pitiful sound made Lila's heart clench tightly.
"Where are you? Make sure to stay safe."
After giving an address, Jason Miller added pitifully, "Can you bring me some toilet paper when you come? It's urgent."
Lila thought he was really being bullied by Killian's people.
She quickly reassured him, "Okay, don't cry. I'm coming right now!"
Twenty minutes later, Lila nervously arrived at the public restroom.
"Are you kidding me!"
Lila called Jason specifically to scold him, then turned to leave.
"Don't! You can't leave me here. If it weren't for Killian's guys chasing me, I wouldn't have run twelve blocks, a full twelve miles! Can you imagine? I ran until I was exhausted, and my stomach was growling. I ate ten fried chickens in one go. I've been i the bathroom all night, and I'm really about to collapse. Please find someone to bring me some paper. My legs are numb."
"You're going to eat yourself to death!"
Lila cursed under her breath, then reluctantly stopped a man and asked him to bring the toilet paper inside.
"Lila, you're the only one who truly loves me," Jason said weakly, trying to hug her.
"Get away! You're filthy!"
Lila didn't say another word and walked out.
"You're so heartless. If I hadn't been smart yesterday, it would have been you running twelve blocks being chased by Killian," Jason complained, following her.
"Enough talk. Where's the money? Why hasn't it been transferred to my account yet?" Lila walked a few steps and found herself standing in front of the "Timeless" women's clothing store.
It was a large mall, and the air was filled with a faint scent of perfume, which thankfully masked the smell coming from Jason.
She took a deep breath, thinking that although she had almost been caught, she managed to make the Hart Family's stock evaporate by $30 billion.
According to the agreed price, she should get at least $3 billion this time.
"It's coming. They're processing it now. They said they're very satisfied with your performance. The money will be in your account by 5 PM tonight."
It wasn't a waste of her performance last night.
"But..." Jason Miller suddenly teased, "I have a second task in hand. It's a bit more difficult than last night's. Are you interested?"
"What task?"
Jason leaned in and whispered in Lila's ear.
"What? You want me to steal something from Killian's company? I'm a hacker, not a thief!"
"Lila, keep your voice down! Don't let anyone hear. Besides, the client said only you can handle this task. They trust your skills."
Lila squinted her eyes, "Is this client the same as last night's? Who is this person, trying so hard to destroy Killian?"
"I'm investigating, haven't found much yet. But the reward this time is substantial. If you find that document, the Hart Family will fall from grace. For such a big project, they're promising you 30% of the shares."
She could start her own company, a fully owned one at that, so she wasn't interested in a mere 30%.
Lila was about to refuse.
"Just to clarify, it's 30% of Hart Enterprises."
She stopped abruptly, then said righteously, "It's not about the money. I just enjoy challenging myself! Tell the client I'll take the case. Have them prepare the money and transfer the shares to me once the Hart Family is taken down."
Thinking of Killian's annoying face, Lila felt a surge of energy.
That guy was just a doormat to her, yet he dared to show off in front of her. Suddenly, there was a commotion nearby.
Lila turned to look and saw her nemesis.
"Does your store have any sense? My daughter just bought these clothes yesterday, and now you say they can't be returned?"
Seraphina threw a bag of clothes near the cashier.
Because of Lila, the Voss family had fallen into an economic crisis in the past few days.
Most of their money had been taken by Lila, and because of these few pieces of clothing, they owed a million dollars to a loan shark.
The interest alone was costing them an extra hundred thousand a day.
If they didn't pay off the debt soon, their house in the suburbs would be auctioned off.
Originally, if Eirlys had married Killian, this economic crisis would have been resolved with a word from Killian.
But Lila had easily destroyed all the wealth and glory that Eirlys was about to obtain.
Thinking of this, Seraphina's face grew more vicious, her sharp nails scraping the counter, making an extremely unpleasant sound.
"Sorry. Our store's policy is that you can return items within seven days with a receipt, as long as the clothes are in resalable condition. However, several of the items you brought have torn waistbands, and the receipt was torn by your daughter yesterday, so we really can't take them back at full price."
Seraphina slammed the counter.
"Is this a scam store? These clothes are ridiculously expensive, and my daughter just tried them on, and they tore. I think your clothes are of terrible quality. How can you sell such trash?"
The store clerk was devastated.
Seraphina was dressed well, but her behavior was like a street shrew, claiming their clothes were of poor quality.
From yesterday's situation, it was clear that Eirlys had too much meat on her body and had squeezed the clothes until they tore!
The store manager wasn't there today, and she couldn't find anyone to help.
In her anxiety, she saw a savior.
She immediately ran out, "Miss Voss, what a coincidence! What brings you here?"
Lila, who was bored and watching the scene, was suddenly called by name.
She was stunned for a few seconds before pointing at herself, "Me?"
"Yes, if it weren't for you yesterday, our store wouldn't have become a popular spot overnight. Our sales have doubled just this morning. This is a special black card from our manager. From now on, whenever you shop here, all clothes will be 40% off."
