Chapter 56 - The Tycoon Alpha's Temptation

ALPHA KING JOSH’S POV

I was confused and shocked.

There were a lot of meanings pleading to be read to the situation.

I had so many interpretations yet I couldn't choose between anger and compassion.

I had countless reasons to be angry. Heck, my anger was justified but I wasn't the one whose father’s arm had been chopped off and I wasn't the one trembling with tears some minutes ago.

As much as Rose seemed like a different person right now, I couldn't be inhuman to her.

“She has been lying to you.” Max spelled out.

My anger intensified with that simple reminder but I knew that wasn't my wolf beast intention. If anything, Max was doing this to simplify the many interpretations in my head so he could defend Rose who wasn't doing much to defend herself.

But I had to make her talk. She has to tell me why the messages I read changed the way I saw her all of a sudden. She has to explain to me.

As expected, Max added, “But she didn't betray you, Josh. That should count.”

“Shut the fuck up, Max…” I shunned my wolf beast and focused on the woman before me. My hand shot out to touch her but I recalled that she could be a snake for all I knew so I withdrew, taking steps away from her.

Adam was right when he said I should be careful around her.

Fuck!

My Beta wasn’t wrong when he said that Rose could be a spy.

Have I been reckless and stupid?

“Don’t make me come to a conclusion without hearing anything from you, Rose.” I blurted when she still refused to say a word. She wouldn't like what would come after I came to a conclusion.

To my surprise, Rose mumbled absentmindedly, “He can hear us… He knows–”

“Who? Who knows what for f*uck sake! Let me understand!” I barked, losing the control I had over my anger.

I wasn't overreacting. For someone who was known to never forgive his enemies, I was being considerate to one… too considerate because she was still sitting in my home with her head on her neck.

What the fuck was I doing?

I just read messages that go, “I gave you chances but you messed up. More to come if you think I am stupid enough to send you there without a backup that would destroy you and him.”

Another one said, “Tell him and see what would happen next.”

That one seemed like a threat and the reason Rose wasn't saying anything. She believed whoever was sending those texts was listing to us. How could that be? Did someone bug her room? Who the hell who have the gut to bug my house?

Out of the blue, Rose gasped, “I want to go to your room, Josh. Can– can I do th-that?” She was barely holding it together.

But I wasn't keen on showing her to my room. I would have been happy to do that yesterday or the days before but right now? Right now she smelled fishy and I didn't like that.

“I think she is trying to get you both out of the room. You have said too much in this room as it is. Don’t you get it?” Max chipped in, supporting Rose again.

As much as I wanted to ask him if he understood what was happening, I understood his point. If this room was truly bugged, then it wasn't safe to make Rose speak here. She might be in grave danger.

But how do I trust her?

Max scoffed, “You know you trust her, Josh. She would have been dead the moment you read that text if you didn't feel something strong for her.”

What I felt for her might not be trusted though. It was strong, no doubt but–

“Please…” Rose begged me. “Take me away from here, Josh. Please.”

My name rolled out of her mouth and I sighed in defeat. Trust be dammed as long as she called me like that. Get a grip, Josh!

While I was still contemplating, Rose got off her bed, pulled the edge, and revealed some wrinkled envelopes. She didn't meet my gaze but she put those envelopes into one of my hands. She took her phone from me with shaky hands and typed, “I will tell you everything… please don’t look at me like that…”

That was when her eyes met mine again. Tears brimmed within the orbs I have fallen in love with and my heart squeezed painfully. She was in pain and what happened to her sadness was mine to bear?

I needed to do better.

And it was obvious Rose also believed that her room has been bugged. That didn't sit well with me but I nodded and strolled out of her room, expecting that she would follow me.

Rose's footsteps didn't come after me as I expected which caused me to look back at her. I caught her wiping her eyes, getting rid of the tears stains, and pulling herself together after looking at the wrapped arm of her father which I had placed in a corner intending to deal with it later.

A few minutes after, Rose stepped out of her and stood beside me with her head hanging low. I led her to my room which was on the same floor as hers but on a different wing. We walked down the corridor and soon arrived by my bedroom door.

Max chose that minute to say, “Who knew she would be entering your room tonight?” My wolf beast was being silly but he was also speaking my mind.

Despite my anger and confusion, I still craved her... All of me wanted all of her.

“Come in…” I said, keeping my manners still.

Rose eyed me but she didn't say a word as she stepped into my room for the first time. Her eyes shifted from one dark corner to another. My room could be called the home of darkness. Everything was dark. If it wasn't black, it was navy blue and dark off-white.

There was nothing much that could attract anyone’s fancy but Rose didn't stop looking around until I muttered, “I am all ears…”

Her head snapped in my direction. I flopped onto the black one-sitter couch that was opposite my bed and awaited the information she was about to reveal.

I was tired of questioning her and the fact that I had been questioning and torturing the captured werewolves for hours wasn't helping.

Rose didn't hesitate to answer this time. She voiced, “I was sent to spy on you, Alpha King Josh…”

Did my heart crack even though I had sensed this within the past few minutes and heard this from Adam a million times?

Yes… and it keep cracking with every word Rose said after that.
