Chapter 79

Lance took a sip of beer and smiled at Wade, obviously proud of his brother. He squeezed Wade’s thigh and got rewarded with a huge grin.

Wade whispered, “You mentioned something this morning about having plans for me tonight. Is that still true?”

Lance felt the heat rise in his face, but he stared him straight in those gorgeous brown eyes. “Definitely. I’ve been imagining your strong hands on me all day. Holding me down, taking me, making me beg for more.”

“Holy fuck.” Wade’s eyes darted around the table to make sure no one was listening.

Lance squeezed his leg again. “You going to make me beg, Wade?”

Wade gripped his hand and brought their lips inches apart. “Not only are you going to beg, my name is going to be on your lips all night.”

Lance swallowed hard as Wade smirked. God, he loved that confidence. Lance was in a submissive kind of mood and couldn’t wait to play when they got home. As he leaned back, he wondered if Wade would be into using handcuffs.

“Everyone ready?” Landon spoke into the mic and strummed his guitar.

As all attention turned to the group, the band began their set, breaking into a rendition of Journey’s “Any Way You Want It” from the early ‘80s.

The band was good, but when Landon began to sing, Lance’s jaw nearly hit the floor. Holy hell, the kid was fantastic.

Landon was consistent, song after song, but when he started singing an old Beatle’s tune, a hush fell over the crowd. Even Lance caught his breath. He’d never heard anything so beautiful. When the band finished, the crowd jumped up and applause erupted from everyone. Landon smiled at his family and announced they were taking a fifteen minute break.

“Shit, that was…” Wade shrugged, clearly struggling for the right word.

“Perfect,” Allyson offered.

Lance agreed wholeheartedly. The kid had talent oozing out of him. Lance couldn’t wait to hear their next set.

Wade

Wade excused himself to use the men’s room, hoping the line wasn’t going to be too long. That beer had run right through him. He was thrilled when he saw only one person standing outside the men’s room—it was usually a long wait.

He spied Landon at the end of the hall and was about to call his name, when another young man, the drummer, joined him. The guy leaned in for a kiss. Wade gaped and looked away from the private moment.

His first thought was why Landon hadn’t said anything to him. But then again, maybe he was just exploring. Although by the look on his brother’s face, he was pretty into the guy. His second thought was “poor Naomi.” He wondered how much longer she would be able to say that the drummer was “her boyfriend”?

When he returned to the table a short time later, the band was about to start their next set. Wade slid into his chair and smiled at Lance. He wondered if he should mention what he saw, but knew it was really up to Landon to bring it up. But he made a note to try and let his brother know he was there for him if he needed to talk.

As the band started, Lance scooted his chair closer and Wade’s heart stuttered while his world tilted. The look in Lance’s eyes told him everything. Suddenly, he wanted nothing more than to take him home. Lance smiled, as if he knew exactly what Wade was thinking.

“We’ll be home soon,” he shouted over the music and rested his hand on Wade’s thigh.

Wade tried to ignore the little bursts of electricity skittering across his skin from Lance’s touch and focus on the rest of the set, but it was useless. Thoughts of being with Lance consumed him.

When the last song finally finished and the crowd cheered, Wade tugged Lance from his chair. “Let’s say our goodbyes and get the hell home,” he whispered into Lance’s ear.

Lance only nodded, but the flush covering his neck spoke volumes. Landon moseyed over to talk and Wade practically barked at him.

“Great. You did great.”

Landon glanced between them. “You guys in a hurry? I thought you might want to hang out with the band.”

He wanted to strangle his little brother. Yeah, he knew he was acting like a teenager, but damn, he wanted some alone time with Lance. But he reluctantly took his seat again and barely made it through the resulting conversation, the introductions to Landon’s band members, and the merriment that followed, even though Lance occasionally cleared his throat and patted his hand, silently telling him to calm down.

By the time everyone began to leave, he practically dragged Lance through the parking lot and to the truck.
