Chapter 45 Two Wolves
ANGELICA'S POV
“I want to come, too,” I said to Dylan and Ericson, who came inside the house momentarily to ensure I was safe and that all the doors and windows were locked.
I could see things were serious.
When they left, I peeked outside the house and noticed men coming out of their homes, telling their wives to lock the doors and keep the children safe.
“You are not coming anywhere near that fight, baby. We can handle this. We deal with these wild wolves all the time. You need to stay inside this house. Don’t open the door even if someone calls your name and asks you to.” Ericson held my shoulders.
I know he was looking for confirmation from my side. A confirmation that I was going to do exactly what they told me. However, I didn't want to.
This was something that happened because of me. I wasn't a professional fighter, but it was only right for me to defend and protect what belonged to me.
It was only right that I participated in something I brought to this area: Ericson and Dylan's village.
The thought that people might lose lives because of something I started would haunt me forever.
“Please, Mi Amore. This is important. You are precious to us. If you participate, we will be distracted by constantly worrying about your well-being. Please,” Dylan held my hand, looking at me hopefully.
I sighed before nodding.
The men smiled at me reassuringly before kissing my cheeks.
“We will handle this quickly, and then we will take you to show you the beautiful mountains here,” Dylan said before they left me inside the house, telling me to lock it from the inside, too.
I did as I was told before hugging myself on the couch.
The sudden sounds of howls and roars started echoing around me, making me tremble in my place. The worry in my heart grew with each passing second.
Nipping at my nails, I glanced at my phone, which started to ring.
I quickly grabbed the device when I saw my mother’s name flash on the screen. I needed something to distract myself from what was happening outside the house.
“H-hi, mom,” I stuttered involuntarily.
“Hey, sweetheart. I'm sorry I only called you now. Your dad told me you were worried, " she paused.
The sound of something crashing against my door echoed, and I jerked in my place, placing my hand on my mouth to stop myself from shrieking.
My heartbeat picked its pace at the thought of having someone hurt being thrown on my door.
What if that person needs my help? What if someone is badly injured?
I walked to the door, my hand grabbing the lock.
‘Don't do it,’ My conscience warned me, Dylan's and Ericson's words repeating in my mind, and I licked my lips.
What if the thing that banged across the door was a wolf? The fear of what I might get to see prevented me from walking to the window and looking outside.
“Hello? Angelica? What is happening there? Why do I hear so many wolf sounds?” My mom's anxious voice resounded from the phone.
I returned to the couch and grabbed my phone.
With my gaze constantly looking around to ensure no one was trying to break into the house, I was about to speak when my mom called for my dad and said something that stopped me.
“Ronaldo! Ronaldo, come. Ask your men to find out where my daughter is! I hear wolves from her background. It looks like the area she is in is under attack,” My mom said.
I furrowed my brows.
Why was mom talking like that?
She could've just thought I was in a forest or something, but why did she particularly mention a wolf attack? Could it be possible for her to know what I did?
No. That couldn't be possible.
“A wolf attack? Damn it. She has gone with Dylan and Ericson to their pack. What if the pack is under attack? That doesn't seem likely, though. They are usually well versed with security,” My stepdad said.
The way he called out my bosses’ names almost made it appear that he knew them personally.
What were the chances that it could be true? Didn't he ask me if I was working for them and was happy that it was the case?
“Is this the time to wonder whether the Blood Martial pack was ready for the rogue attack? My daughter could be in danger! I did so much to keep her away from all this, and yet she has gotten involved with our kind,” my mother said, her words growing more confusing.
What was this all about? What did she want to keep me away from?
I wanted to ask her what was happening, but I felt something strange around me.
It was almost as if someone was watching me, and I instinctively looked through the left window.
Grabbing the pistol still on the table, I walked to the window.
I saw two large wolves entering the large house in the pack's center from the window.
My eyes widened.
I remembered seeing many children staying there the other day.
Didn't Alan say it was like the main house for them and many families reside there?
Even the thought of what those wolves would do to those kids and women sent a shiver down my spine.
Those weren't normal wolves, either. They almost appeared twice the size of a normal wolf.
It won't be possible for them to fight it with any other weapon. I must protect them.
I will shoot them just like how I shot the wolf.
With this thought, I opened the window from the inside before jumping out, knowing the door was locked from the outside.
The stench of blood was thick in the air, but that was the least of my concerns.
Adrenaline rushed through my veins, and I entered the pack house.
I was ready to shoot wolves, protect the people from being eaten, and go through that traumatic ordeal.
However, I was surprised to see those wolves entering another room.
From how they were quietly moving and no one made a sound, not even the maid who saw them, I wondered if these were domestic wolves that these people rear to fight against the wild wolves that appear from the forests.
I walked inside the house, near the room, to see what was happening.
However, before I could peek inside the room, someone appeared before me, blocking my view. I looked at the man with wide eyes.
Standing before me was none other than Dylan; splashes of blood stained his body as he looked back at me with his blue eyes that looked like they were ready to kill.
I stepped back. I gazed behind him where I had seen the wolves going, but the room was empty.
Only Ericson sat on the couch with a tired expression.
“You are indeed a rule breaker, aren't you?” Dylan asked me.
I couldn't answer him.
How could I? I was confused.
Nothing made sense to me. I wasn't drunk.
I saw two wolves entering this area.
But how come it was Dylan and Ericson inside the room?
There was no way that the wolves left the room through the window. Then…
I looked at Dylan and Ericson before shaking my head.
Something was going on here that I had no idea about, and probably….
Probably, my stepdad knew.
