Chapter 40 Trouble
THIRD PERSON'S POV
“So, what do you think about her?” Dylan asked as he took a sip of his drink, waiting for the members of the senior council of his pack to express their opinions.
“Think about what?” Senior Desmond asked.
Ericson, lost in Angelica's thoughts, the way she blushed so hard when he made a move on her even when they had already kissed and he had tasted her from both horizontal and vertical lips, smiled to himself.
Though human, she was the best mate the Moon Goddess could give them.
“You know who we are talking about,” Dylan said before hitting Ericson's leg from under the table.
As his twin, Dylan could practically feel Ericson's reaction in his body, and he didn't want any distraction while talking to the seniors.
He didn't want them to think they were whipped for a human already when it was indeed the case.
Ericson cleared his throat before looking at Senior Desmond.
“Brother Dylan is talking about the girl we brought along. She is the one,” Ericson said.
As if the seniors hadn't expected this, they looked at their alphas wide-eyed.
Yes, they were the alphas, the leading wolves of the notorious Blood Martial Pack named after their ancestors, the warriors' Martino bloodline.
For centuries, the pack was named one of the most ruthless and unrelenting, with a series of monstrous, feared alphas.
They belonged to one of the sectors of the supernatural world, the night creatures, which the human world was oblivious to.
They established their company and more than half of the pack in that city to dispel rumors and suspicions about their origins and species.
“Sorry, Alpha Dylan. We didn't know.” Senior Allison stood, and Dylan nodded in understanding.
“So, what do you think?” He asked again.
The seniors looked at each other, hiding their emotions before one finally dared to channel the question to Senior Desmond, who nodded.
“Sir, we are a pack of wolves known for our brutality. Do you think she will be able to handle it? She is just a human. What if she doesn't accept it?” Senior Desmond asked.
His words made sense, which was why Dylan and Ericson had tried their best to make her fall in love with them from the start.
They didn't know if she was ready to claim them as hers, but she was at least prepared to try.
However, his words hung heavily in the air.
Will she accept them after finding out about them?
Alan, sitting silent since the beginning of the meeting, raised his head and looked at his alphas.
“Sir, pardon my intrusion, but can I dare to ask you something?” Alan asked.
Ericson raised his brows.
His Gamma didn't interrupt anything until it was essential and something he couldn't contain himself, so why was he asking for permission?
“Sure, go ahead,” Ericson said.
“Are you sure you want her because she is your mate?” Alen asked.
His question surprised the brothers, who looked at their subordinates.
“What is that supposed to mean? Are you trying to say we are faking our affection for our mate? What you said is quite offensive; I hope you know,” Dylan was the first to retaliate.
Alen raised his hands in surrender.
He bowed his head a little to show submission, not wanting to offend his alphas, but as the Gamma of the pack, he had the right to voice out his opinions.
“I mean to ask, are you sure you want to keep the girl around because she is your mate and not because she is our enemy, Ronaldo's stepdaughter?” Alen asked.
Everyone in the room froze.
Everything stilled for a second as the seniors looked at their alphas for the answers.
Was that the truth?
Dylan gritted his teeth, his fists clenched by his side, and his gaze turned murderous.
Then, Ericson placed his hand on Dylan's to calm his surging anger.
Though they reacted like this, no one jumped to clear the misunderstanding, and the silent agreement hung between them.
Alen's pupils dilated as the realization dawned upon him.
They were indeed targeting her. He remembered Angelica's blush whenever the brothers were mentioned and felt she was being duped.
She was just a human. How could they think of blaming and pinning something on her she didn't even know about?
The girl thought they cared for her for real.
Though what happened was tragic, and Ronaldo played them terribly, did it mean they needed to pay him back by acting like him?
What happened with Felicia was indeed unfortunate, but—
“Sir, this is —” Wrong, he wanted to say, but before he could complete his sentence, someone pushed the door open, and everyone turned to look at the intruder.
Dylan's brows furrowed.
“Harris, what's the meaning of this?” He asked.
Harris, breathing heavily, took a few calming breaths before nodding.
“I understand, alpha. I am sorry for the interruption, but it was important. A trespasser rogue was seen to have trespassed half an hour ago,” Harris said.
It was Ericson's turn to scrunch his brows in confusion.
“And? What's the matter? If it's a trespasser, see if it's a rogue. Catch it, interrogate it, then kill or leave it. Do we need to explain the process?” Ericson asked.
Harris shook his head.
“Our team is onto it, sir. We are already searching forests. The problem is, Miss Angelica isn't in her house, and Cory mentioned he saw her sprinting towards the forest,”
As soon as the words left Harris’s mouth, the sound of chairs falling echoed, and Dylan and Ericson stood abruptly.
“What are you waiting for? I will skin the border patrol alive if anything happens to her!” Ericson changed into his enormous black wolf without another thought and ran straight inside the forest.
Dylan widened his eyes, but his brother had already left before he could stop him.
Left with no choice, Dylan also turned into his wolf form and rushed behind Ericson, not wanting his brother to reveal something the girl wasn't ready to hear.
The rest of the team followed suit, and soon, collective howls and roars echoed throughout the forests.
The howls and roars of the pack members warned the rogue who had trespassed to leave the area, or they would kill him in the worst way possible.
Ericson's heart drummed against his chest as he thought about something terrible happening to his mate.
Dylan might have targeted her for what happened to Felicia, but he was starting to fall for Angelica for real.
Even the thought of not having her was enough to send him crouching on the ground and wailing in misery.
He never thought he would fall in love so deeply, but then again, could he fight the mate bond, the one bond that destined them to that beautiful human girl?
‘Just hold for some time, baby girl; I am coming,’ He whispered before increasing his speed.
As he went further inside the forest, dread clouded his mind and heart when he smelt blood.
At that moment, his speed increased indefinitely as the worst-case scenario appeared in his mind, and his wolf howled in pain.
Dylan, forgetting about his previous thoughts, ran faster.
They ran until they reached the area where they smelt the most pungent scent of blood.
They knew what they would see was terrible, but nothing could have prepared them for what they saw.
