Chapter 75
Jason rushed over with documents and saw exactly this scene. He immediately cried out in shock.
"Your hand..."
"Call an ambulance."
Charlotte pushed the child into his arms, her tone calm. "And call the police."
"Okay, okay..." Jason didn't bother with the documents scattered all over the floor and hurriedly nodded with reddened eyes.
At that moment, in a private room at a café somewhere, Chloe was waiting for good news.
Before long, her phone started ringing frantically.
She quickly put down her cup and picked it up.
After listening to what the person on the other end said, the corners of her mouth slowly curved upward.
"How did it go?"
Mandy asked anxiously, staring intently at her eyes.
The woman smiled slightly, her eyes full of malice. "Got her arm."
Getting this answer, Mandy breathed a sigh of relief, her shoulders relaxing.
"That's good."
The ambulance weaved through the busy streets, its siren urgent and piercing.
Finally, accompanied by the sound of brakes, the vehicle quickly stopped at the entrance.
The hospital emergency room lights were bright, the air filled with the pungent smell of disinfectant. Charlotte sat on the examination bed, watching the doctor's serious face as he treated her gruesome wound.
"Doctor, will the wound affect her movement later? It's so deep, will it leave a scar?"
Jason looked anxious, pestering the doctor with non-stop questions.
The doctor sighed, but his tone was relatively relaxed. "You came in time. Although the wound is long, it didn't damage the tendons, bones, or major blood vessels. After stitching and proper rest, she'll be fine."
Getting this answer, Jason's pale face regained a bit of color. He patted his chest and let out a long breath.
"Really? That's good, that's good..."
Suddenly, the emergency room door was slammed open with a "bang," and Alexander rushed in, looking somewhat panicked.
When his gaze fell on the shocking wound on Charlotte's arm, his expression instantly darkened, and the aura around him turned ice cold.
"How did it get this serious? Doctor, how is her arm?"
The doctor's heart trembled under his sharp gaze, and he quickly repeated what he had just said.
"Don't worry, the wound has been cleaned properly. We'll stitch it up right away. She'll be fine."
Charlotte looked at Alexander's slightly disheveled shirt and loose tie, her eyes flickering slightly. "How did you get here?"
Hearing her question, Alexander finally shifted his gaze from the wound to her face.
Seeing her slightly furrowed brow, his eyes immediately filled with concern.
"I came as soon as I got the news. Does it hurt?"
Charlotte pressed her lips together and shook her head. "It's okay."
Getting this answer, Alexander was obviously still not satisfied. Looking at the exposed flesh, his jawline tensed even more, and suppressed storms churned in his deep eyes.
"The stitching will require anesthesia, it might hurt a bit."
Sensing his worry, Charlotte felt somewhat helpless. "It's fine, just a superficial wound. It'll heal quickly."
The man listened to her answer and said nothing more, just pulled over a chair and sat down beside her, silently watching the doctor's stitching movements.
Jason was so scared by his aura that he didn't dare breathe heavily, and could only quietly retreat a few steps back to seek comfort.
During the stitching process, Charlotte didn't even furrow her brow, but Alexander's expression grew darker and darker.
After treating the wound, the police also came to take a simple statement.
Perhaps Alexander's presence was too overwhelming - the officers were scared and cautious when asking questions.
After finishing everything, when they left the hospital, the lights were already coming on.
"Jason, you can go back. We'll handle the company matters tomorrow." Charlotte turned to address the person behind her.
"But you..."
"I'll take her. You don't need to worry."
Alexander interrupted him without room for argument, then gently supported Charlotte's uninjured arm and led her toward his car.
On the way back, the atmosphere in the car was heavy, even oppressive.
Alexander's expression was calm, but the bulging veins on his hand gripping the steering wheel betrayed his emotions.
"Those people were coming for me. Their target was my hand."
Charlotte leaned against the seat back, staring at the constantly flickering neon lights outside the window, speaking in an indifferent tone.
Alexander's hand instantly tightened, his lips pressed together. He made a sound of acknowledgment, unnamed emotions churning in his eyes.
As if guessing what he was thinking, Charlotte immediately spoke up. "You don't need to investigate. The police will handle it."
"Okay."
Alexander agreed, but his whitened knuckles showed his inner turmoil.
Soon, the car smoothly arrived at the villa entrance. After turning off the engine, Alexander didn't get out, but turned his head to stare at her face with a serious expression.
"I'll arrange bodyguards to follow you."
"Not necessary." Charlotte refused without thinking. "I can handle it myself."
"You can handle it? Your way of handling it is blocking with your arm?"
Alexander's voice suddenly turned cold. "If that person's knife had been a bit sharper, you might not have been able to keep that arm!"
"Charlotte, this isn't the time to be stubborn!"
Instantly, Charlotte fell silent, lowering her eyes without saying anything more.
Staring at her somewhat displeased expression in the dim yellow light, Alexander softened his tone. "Listen to me, they won't get in your way."
After speaking, he got out of the car again, walked around to open her door, and carefully helped her into the house.
After sending Charlotte upstairs, the moment he closed the door, Alexander's face instantly fell, his eyes like they were tempered with ice.
He slowly walked into the villa's backyard, stood in the moonlight, and made a phone call.
"It's me. I need you to investigate something for me."
"Starlight Tower underground parking garage, around nine this morning, someone attacked Charlotte. I want all their information and whoever's behind them, dig it all out."
The person on the phone responded, "Yes, Mr. Harris."
After hanging up, Alexander stood still, just looking up at the lit window on the second floor, his eyes deep and intense.
At that moment, at the hilltop villa entrance, Chloe inserted her key into the lock.
Her face was flushed, her eyes full of excitement.
But as soon as she stepped through the door, she sensed something was wrong.
The living room was pitch black, with only a tall figure sitting by the floor-to-ceiling window, silently staring at the night view below.
With just one glance, Chloe recognized him - Benjamin.
"Benjamin, why didn't you turn on the lights? You scared me. I thought there was a burglar in the house."
Chloe spoke while flipping on the light with a "click."
Soft light instantly filled the room, illuminating the man's profile, which was ice cold.
He seemed to only just notice Chloe, slowly turning his head, his eyes indifferent.
"Let's break off our engagement."
