Chapter 46
A soft laugh came from behind, but Charlotte ignored it and walked straight into her room without looking back.
Closing the door, she leaned against the wall, her heart racing for some reason, her face feeling especially hot.
Charlotte touched her cheek.
It must be because she was angry at Alexander.
Yes, that must be it.
She calmed her breathing and went to sleep.
The night passed peacefully.
The next day when Charlotte woke up and walked out of her second-floor room, she saw several dishes of hearty breakfast laid out on the dining table.
Charlotte raised an eyebrow slightly and walked down.
This wasn't her usual breakfast, and definitely not prepared by the household staff.
She paused, hearing some commotion from the kitchen.
Several servants were standing at the kitchen door looking at each other in confusion, and inside was Alexander, busy at work.
Alexander was wearing an apron, working away, looking very skilled, as if he did this sort of thing often.
Charlotte was completely stunned and used her eyes to ask what was going on.
The butler quickly came over to her and lowered his voice, "We don't know what's going on either. Anyway, Mr. Harris got up early this morning and said he would personally prepare breakfast for you today. We couldn't stop him, so we just had to let him do it."
"I didn't expect him to be so skilled at cooking."
Hearing the noise outside, Alexander came out carrying freshly fried eggs and placed the plate on the table.
He looked at Charlotte casually, "Come eat something."
He acted as if he and Charlotte were already quite familiar.
Charlotte looked at Alexander deeply and walked over to sit at the table.
"You can cook?"
"I only cook for myself. Sometimes when work is too busy and I don't want to eat delivered food, I'll cook something myself. Why, don't you want to eat it?"
Charlotte shook her head and sat at the table, feeling he was acting strange.
It seemed like from last night until now, he'd been trying to please her.
Could Alexander be trying to get closer to her because he saw she would inherit the White Group?
Alexander's thoughts were hard to read; even now she couldn't figure out what he was thinking.
Charlotte stayed alert and sat down to eat quietly.
From start to finish, she didn't say anything more to Alexander.
At the appointed time, the driver came to pick up Alexander for work.
After he left, Charlotte finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Seeing her look like she'd finally gotten rid of a plague god, the butler couldn't help but find it amusing.
"What's wrong? Don't you like being around Mr. Harris?"
"Don't you think he has some ulterior motive?" Charlotte suddenly stood up and looked at him seriously.
The butler thought for a moment and nodded deliberately, "Yes, I do think he has a motive."
Charlotte instantly found someone who shared her thoughts.
"Right? Don't you think he has some hidden agenda with me, that he wants to..."
Before she could finish, the butler stroked his chin and said, "He must like you! I heard he never got close to women before, and he's never been this attentive to anyone. Now he's staying here for meals and overnight, and personally making you breakfast. Isn't he just trying to impress you?"
Charlotte fell silent.
She realized she and the butler weren't on the same wavelength, and turned to look at the servants.
"What do you all think?"
The servants nodded in unison, "Yes, he must be interested in you."
"I'm not talking to you people anymore."
She got up and left, leaving the butler and servants looking at each other.
They really couldn't think of any other reason besides this for why Alexander kept hanging around Charlotte.
Charlotte prepared to go to the White Group according to her arrangement with Daniel yesterday.
Today she had her long hair tied in a low ponytail, wearing a white shirt, light blue jeans with sneakers.
She looked just like a college student fresh out of school, dressed very casually.
But she still couldn't hide her cool demeanor and that face.
Daniel sat in his car, specially picking her up at the entrance of Gold Valley Mansion.
After Charlotte got in the car, Daniel gave her a brief introduction to the White Group's situation.
The White Group's headquarters was located in the northernmost part of the city center, in an independent building with a full sixty floors.
The north was mainly the docks, which was also convenient for the White Group to manage the dock business.
Therefore, the headquarters was set up here.
The location was quite remote, taking over an hour by car from Gold Valley Mansion.
On the way, Charlotte looked through the materials Daniel provided, learning about the White Group's current power distribution and main business. She discovered that the company's vice president, the person who carried the main burden besides Daniel, was actually his niece, Bella White.
She was thirty-two years old, graduated with a degree in international financial management, with above-average work ability, usually helping Daniel hold up the company.
"This is my own niece, just call her Bella, no need to be formal."
Daniel smiled warmly, his attitude very easygoing.
Charlotte nodded and said nothing more.
After arriving at the company, she first accompanied Daniel to the CEO's office.
Along the way, everyone in the company turned to look.
When they saw the consultant badge on Charlotte's chest, their expressions all changed.
According to legend, this so-called suddenly appointed consultant was very likely Daniel's adopted granddaughter.
Therefore, some people saw Charlotte as the future person in power at the White Group.
"Sit, sit."
Daniel pulled Charlotte to sit on the sofa and had his assistant Leo make tea.
"There's a board meeting this morning, in half an hour. You don't need to say anything. I'll arrange for you to sit in the observation seat behind me. Just watch the general situation first and get familiar with the people on the board."
Daniel said, taking a document from the desk and handing it to her.
"This is today's discussion topics, as well as the individual shareholding situation of the board members. Take a look at everything."
Charlotte took the materials and quickly scanned them.
"What time does the board meeting start?"
"Ten o'clock."
Daniel looked at his watch, "Less than half an hour left, no rush. Take a look first, and ask me if there's anything you don't understand."
Charlotte nodded and focused on reading the materials.
Suddenly, she frowned and pointed to a spot in the document.
"This return rate ratio doesn't seem right. Why did it only increase by twelve percent? According to the market simulation results, shouldn't it be twenty percent?"
Daniel and Leo came over and looked at the error she pointed out. They were both stunned.
Leo said in shock, "But this would require running it through a computer program to get the result. What you said is indeed wrong, and the correct answer is indeed twenty percent, but how did you calculate it directly in such a short time?"
He couldn't believe this woman could be better than a computer.
Charlotte said flatly, "How I calculated it doesn't matter. What matters is that this is wrong and needs to be corrected, right?"
"Right, right."
Leo scratched his head, "I'll go fix it now."
Daniel looked at Charlotte with increasing satisfaction, the smile on his face almost impossible to contain.
