Chapter 19

Chapter 19

"You don't need to say thank you to me!"

Harper suddenly choked up, "If you hadn't helped me make that decision back then and put all my money into investments, I would never have turned my life around and become a well-known investor!"

"You were my guide when I was lost after my divorce. What does this little favor I'm doing for you even count for?"

Charlotte's expression gradually softened.

When she went abroad alone to participate in a hacking competition, she met Harper drowning her sorrows in alcohol the night before the contest.

Charlotte initially ignored her, but Harper grabbed her and poured out her troubles about her husband's affair and how he heartlessly divorced her after giving her a large sum of money.

She really couldn't stand listening anymore, or maybe it was because Harper was crying so messily with tears and snot everywhere, looking so pathetic, that she reluctantly gave her some advice.

After that, Harper's investments succeeded, and her life became smooth sailing. With money, status, and reputation, successful people flocked around her.

Half a month ago, Charlotte was still working behind the scenes, paving the way for the Johnson Group's business.

When she learned Harper was looking to invest, she invited her to come and evaluate the opportunity.

Good thing they didn't close the deal, otherwise the Johnson Group would now have a strong backing.

Charlotte smiled slightly, "That's all ancient history. I'll introduce you to reliable companies. Don't bother with the Johnson Group anymore."

Harper snorted coldly: "They cut ties with you - they must be blind. I won't deal with them anymore, don't worry."

Charlotte and Harper chatted for a bit, then the car stopped at the hotel entrance.

Harper went back to the hotel to rest and instructed her bodyguard to drive Charlotte away.

On the road, Charlotte received a phone call.

As soon as she answered, Alexander's somewhat magnetic voice came through: "Ms. Johnson."

Charlotte frowned: "Mr. Harris, how did you get my number?"

Alexander ignored the question: "My father is out of danger now. I heard you saved him. He insists on seeing you. If it's convenient, I can send someone to pick you up right now?"

Charlotte paused, then since she had nothing else to do, she agreed.

"I'll come over now."

She hung up and told Harper's bodyguard to take her to the hospital.

But as soon as that call ended, another one came through immediately.

It was Victoria calling.

Charlotte's steps paused slightly.

After answering, Victoria's cautious voice came through.

"Charlotte."

Her tone was gentle, with a consulting manner. "There's something I want to tell you."

Charlotte said: "Go ahead."

Victoria paused, then spoke after considering her words carefully.

"Henry sent an email to the Langley family saying he wants to attend your homecoming banquet. He also said there are some things from back then he never told me, and he wants to meet and talk about them. I'm guessing he wants to talk about your background."

Right now, Henry still didn't know that the Langley family already knew about how he secretly hid Charlotte's identity and raised her in the countryside, and he didn't know Victoria had already brought Charlotte back and was planning to publicly acknowledge her at the banquet.

Charlotte's eyes turned cold. She really hadn't expected Henry to be so eager to attend the Langley family's homecoming banquet.

Victoria's tone carried a hint of mockery.

"He says he wants to talk to me about what happened back then. I know he wants to attach himself to the Langley family. The Johnson Group's business has been having some problems lately, right? I heard he's been trying to make connections everywhere in the circle, wanting to get the Harris Group's production line, but nobody's paying attention to him."

Charlotte narrowed her eyes, thinking of how Susan had been so frantic trying to hit her, and that suspicious look when she didn't understand her hints.

All these years, Henry had been hiding it from Susan, letting Susan mistakenly believe she had successfully given birth to a daughter back then.

After years of peace, Henry probably never thought this matter would one day become a huge crisis.

She suddenly found it quite laughable.

Charlotte didn't say anything for a moment.

Hearing her continued silence, Victoria became worried: "If you don't want to see him and find it unlucky, I'll refuse right away. Your grandfather doesn't want him there anyway."

"No need." Charlotte's tone was flat. "Let him come."

On the other end of the phone, Victoria was surprised: "Let him come? Are you sure?"

"I'm sure."

Charlotte curved her lips into a mocking smile. "Doesn't he want to attach himself to the Langley family? Then let him come and see who the real star of this homecoming banquet is. Let him come, and whoever he wants to bring, he can bring. The more people from the Johnson family, the better."

With that, she hung up.

Soon, the Langley family sent a reply to Henry's email.

After receiving the reply, Henry jumped up excitedly and slapped the coffee table.

"The Langley family agreed!"

"What?" Susan was distracted, then looked at him as she came back to her senses, suddenly remembering what Charlotte had said.

'She said it's not even certain if she's biological - what did she mean by that?'

Henry didn't notice Susan's odd state.

He said excitedly: "Didn't I tell you I wanted to attend the Langley family daughter's homecoming banquet? They directly agreed to let me attend, and even said I can bring people with me!"

"Really?" Susan immediately cheered up. "Then I..."

Before she could finish, Henry cut her off.

"I'm planning to bring Chloe along. She can meet more aristocrats at the banquet, which might help the company's business."

Susan breathed a sigh of relief, with a slight smile, not minding that Henry didn't want to bring her.

"Sure. If we can attach ourselves to the Langley family or meet some wealthy and powerful people, we won't have to worry about not being able to set up the Johnson family's production line."

Chloe's eyes lit up at these words, unable to hide her happiness.

"The Langley family is really willing to let us go? Dad, what method did you use to convince them?"

Henry's eyes flickered, and he coughed lightly, looking somewhat guilty.

"Don't ask about that. Just prepare yourself well. Dress as luxuriously as possible. The Langley family's event will be attended by top elites. If you don't dress well, people will look down on you."

"Okay." Chloe agreed immediately, already thinking about what to wear.

The gloom that had been hanging over her for days instantly cleared.

She couldn't help thinking of Charlotte and spoke in a soft, weak voice.

"Actually, Charlotte deliberately sabotaged the cooperation this time because her relationship with the family isn't good and she's throwing a tantrum. For such a rare homecoming banquet, shouldn't we bring her along too?"

Hearing this, Henry's expression instantly changed.

He sneered, "Bring her? She doesn't deserve it! The only daughter I recognize is you, and I'll only bring you. Don't be so kind-hearted thinking about her at this time."

Chloe didn't say anything more, just sighed as if helpless, her eyes filled with smugness.

'That bitch has just been acting arrogant for a few days using Queen's reputation. Once I attach myself to the Langley family, even if Charlotte is a famous designer, she won't be able to compare with me.'

The Langley family was a top-tier wealthy family - a somewhat famous designer had no qualification to get in.

This was an occasion Charlotte could never touch in her lifetime!
