How do you explain this.... betrayal??

How do you explain this.... betrayal??
Amara's POV

The moonlight filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow in the room as I sat on the edge of my bed, the weight of everything pressing down on me. My heart was still broken, my trust shattered. It was midnight, and I wasn’t sure if I was awake or lost in a nightmare. But I couldn’t escape the pain.

Ryder stood in the doorway, his figure tall and imposing, but his usual confidence was gone. His posture was slumped, shoulders tense, eyes full of guilt. He had come to apologize, I could tell. But would words be enough to heal the wound he had left in my heart?

"Amara..." He said my name like a prayer, his voice hoarse. He stepped into the room cautiously, almost as if afraid to be near me, unsure of how I would react. I wanted to scream at him, to ask him how he could do this to me, but all that came out was a shaky breath.

"Why, Ryder?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper. "Why did you sleep with her? Selena... after everything we’ve been through. How could you?"

Ryder’s face twisted with confusion and pain. He shook his head, taking a step forward. "I never slept with Selena, Amara. I swear. I never did."

The words tumbled out of my mouth before I could stop them, as the anger and hurt bubbled to the surface. "Then why the hell did I receive these?"

I pulled my phone from the bedside table, my hands trembling as I opened the picture Selena had sent. The disgusting, intimate images of Ryder and Selena tangled together in the bed—naked, entwined, lost in each other’s arms—flooded the screen. My chest tightened, and I felt the cold ache in my heart again as I handed the phone to Ryder.

He froze.

His eyes locked onto the images, his breath caught in his throat. He looked like he had been slapped, his face draining of color. He stared at the screen for what felt like forever, and I watched as his entire body stiffened.

"This..." Ryder’s voice broke, and he looked up at me, his face pale. "This isn’t me, Amara. I swear to you, I didn’t do this. This wasn’t me."

I wanted to believe him. I wanted to scream out and tell him that I believed him, that this was all just a misunderstanding. But the pictures—the evidence—stared back at me. They were real. They couldn’t be fake. My stomach churned, and the tears that I had been holding back finally spilled over.

"Then how do you explain this, Ryder?" I choked out, my voice thick with emotion. "How do you explain this… betrayal?" I waved my hand at the image on the screen, my heart breaking all over again. "How do you explain her sending this to me? She knew exactly what she was doing."

Ryder dropped the phone to the floor, his hands shaking. He ran his fingers through his hair, disoriented, his face twisted with regret. His eyes were wild, and I could see the disbelief etched on his face. "Amara, I don’t know what the hell is going on. I swear to you, I never... I never slept with Selena. She’s lying. She must have done something to these pictures. It’s a setup. It has to be."

I looked at him, and for the first time, I saw the vulnerability in his eyes. I saw the fear. He wasn’t lying. He wasn’t the one in those pictures. But if it wasn’t him, who else could it have been?

"Then who sent them to me, Ryder?" I whispered, the words barely escaping my lips. "If you didn’t, then who did?"

Ryder’s face contorted with frustration. "Who would do this?" He turned away, pacing across the room as his mind raced. He seemed to be working through the possibilities, his hands clenched into fists at his sides. "Who would want to tear us apart like this?"

And then it hit me. "Selena," I muttered, my voice cold. "It was her."

Ryder stopped, his eyes locking onto mine, realization flashing across his face. "Selena," he whispered under his breath, his voice full of loathing. "That makes sense. She’s been working against me... against us. She’s been manipulating things from the start."

I nodded, my chest heavy. "She’s using you to hurt me," I said softly. "She’s using everything, Ryder. She sent me those pictures to make sure I hated you... that I wouldn’t want to have anything to do with you."

Ryder’s anger flared, his jaw tightening. "That’s why she sent those pictures? To make you believe I betrayed you?" His fists clenched. "I swear, Amara, if I ever get my hands on her—"

I reached out, my hand touching his arm, silencing him. "No," I whispered, "don’t. I don’t want that from you. We need to figure this out, Ryder. We need to stop her."

Ryder’s face softened, and he turned to look at me, his eyes filled with regret and something else—something deeper. "I never wanted to hurt you," he said, his voice raw. "I swear, I would never do that to you. I never slept with Selena. She’s using me, manipulating me, just like she used the spell to control me before."

I took a shaky breath, trying to steady myself. I could see the truth in his eyes. I knew he was being honest with me now. But there was still a part of me that hurt. I didn’t know how to fully trust him again, not yet. It wasn’t just the pictures—it was everything that had happened before. The coldness, the betrayal. How could I let that go so easily?

"But what about everything else?" I whispered, my voice barely audible. "You pulled away from me. You became so distant, so cold. You didn’t even try to fix things. How do I know this isn’t just some excuse for everything you’ve done?"

Ryder’s face twisted in pain, his eyes filled with regret. He stepped closer to me, his voice thick with emotion. "Amara, I was under the curse. I didn’t even know what I was doing. But I swear to you, I’ve never betrayed you. I would never hurt you like that. Please believe me."

I looked into his eyes for a long moment, my heart torn between the pain of the past and the raw honesty I saw in his gaze. My emotions were a tangled mess, and I didn’t know if I was ready to forgive him, not yet.

But in that moment, I realized one thing. He was hurting too. He didn’t deserve the full brunt of my anger—not when I knew the truth.

“I don’t know if I can forgive you yet,” I said softly, my voice trembling. “But I’ll try to understand. I’ll try.”

Ryder nodded slowly, his expression softening. "That’s all I can ask for, Amara. I’ll do whatever it takes to earn back your trust."

As the silence lingered between us, I realized that this was only the beginning. There was a long road ahead, one filled with healing, trust, and redemption. But for the first time in a long time, I felt a flicker of hope. Maybe, we could find our way back to each other.
