Chapter 46
I stood there in a trance while Alizac was staring at me like he’d seen a ghost. But after what he did before I left, I felt nothing but disgust at him.
“Prepare for complicated,” I whispered to Anthony. He walked over trying to hug me, but I stepped back.
“You’re still mad, really? Dammit, Ryleigh I thought you were dead.” He said in frustration. “Betrayal isn’t an easy thing to get over now, is it? I was hoping you thought I was dead.”
The old me started seeping out.
“It was a misunderstanding, don’t you think?”
Maybe it was but I couldn’t admit that to him. I didn’t care that he was with his mate. I was mad that he was expecting loyalty from me and nothing in return. I was about to marry this man and he was stepping out on me.
“I know what I saw, and you aren’t even sorry. Everything is good here so you can leave, and you won’t mention to anyone that you saw me.” He took a step forward and once again I stepped back.
“Anthony, this is Alizac. He almost made me give up everything for him. Forced my mate’s mark on me and then I caught him fucking his mate. Then he has the audacity to say it was a misunderstanding. Alizac, this is my second mate, Anthony, and before you ask. I am very happy with him without all your complications. So do me a favor and leave.”
Alizac gave a death stare towards Anthony, but he didn’t lower his guard either. But before anything, I grabbed Anthony’s hand and dragged him along to somewhere where Alizac couldn’t find us. But Alizac was a stubborn man especially when you try eating from his plate. When we went over to the kid’s area that’s when it was unleashed.
“I should probably talk fast because I know him. Jax will be here soon, and more drama is going to go down,” I said.
He sat down just listening while I started from the beginning. The disbelief that set in his face really was the perfect example of what I do to people.
He didn’t make a sound.
“So, when they found me, I was there willingly. The only reason I didn’t fight harder to stay was that they killed the humans.” I ended with.
But speechless was an understatement.
“What the fuck, Ryleigh? You hid all that from me for years. It would have been great to know before he showed up on my land.”
He stood up with his hand in his hair that ruined his perfect swoosh.
“I told you, you wouldn’t understand. It’s a lot and that’s why I didn’t tell you,” I said.
But he just pulled me into his arms and held me. That was his way of controlling his anger and anxiety.
“It’s a lot to take in, but knowing you have a partially mated mate out there makes me uneasy. As you said, he is most likely going to show up and it’ll be like fighting for you which I shouldn’t have to do with other men.”
He was right, it wasn’t fair.
“You have nothing to worry about. I wasn’t really in a relationship with any of them. It was just pure wolf lust.”
I looked up to him and kissed him so deeply. He was a breath of fresh air and yeah of course we fought but we always got over it. I knew it was a matter of time before Jax showed up and caused a scene, so I needed to get my emotions in check before he did.
“There is something else you should know.”
He moved away from my embrace to look at me.
“The elder queen had mentioned to me that the reason I was so protective of Alizac was I held an old soul that did the same. One that makes sure he isn’t hurt or anything. So, I apologize in advance if I get defensive. It’s out of character but I can’t help it.”
I pulled him back into a hug.
“But I will promise you that there is nothing to worry about. Please don’t leave me when things get tough.” He placed a kiss on my head. “There were two foolish men who ruined their chance with you. With me? I am not a fool babe.”
That night we spent some well-needed time together before shit was about to go down. If you ask me, I was kind of excited to show Jax exactly what he was missing. Guess we never really grow up, do we? A knock on our bedroom door had removed us from our comfortable, cuddly, nap we were taking.
“He’s here, isn’t he?” Anthony asked.
He had gotten up and opened the door to one of the maids standing there.
“Kyla’s presence is being requested downstairs,” she said.
Most people call me by the fake name I started with. Only a handful call me by Ryleigh. I stood up putting clothes on knowing we were both still naked from your makeup sex.
“I am going to shower first,” I told him when he closed the door.
“No, don't. I want him to smell me on you because you’re mine.”
I laughed at his sudden possessiveness.
“I don’t want any fighting but okay. Now can you please just not be here first. Let’s not add gasoline to the fire. He crossed his arms, but I eventually got him to stay away for just the night. I made my way slowly until I got downstairs and both Jax and Alizac were standing there.
“Ryleigh,” Jax said in shock. He walked over and tried to hug me but one of the pack members had stopped him.
“It’s okay Nick, I know him.” He removed his arm but stayed close by. He stepped forward again and pulled me in a tight embrace and it’s like nothing had ever changed.
