Chapter 58

“How far along?” He asked.

Yup, he was trying to determine if it was his still. I looked at my watch knowing we were going to be late, but he wouldn’t let us go.

“About 3 weeks, which is why I didn’t want to say anything until after my first trimester. Now we really have to go.”

I tried to walk but he held his hand out to stop me. Why won’t he let it go already?

“Three weeks? How is that possible unless-?”

At least this time he was understanding what happened. I didn’t cheat or lie. He lost that right when he broke up with me. I can be honest and loving all I want to someone that I am committed to.

“Alizac I really don’t have time to play this game. I am pregnant with Jax’s baby, and nothing can change that. Now step aside so we can leave.”

I pushed him gently aside and walked out hand and hand with Jax. I swear we needed to just be on our own or we will never be alone. Alizac won’t give up ever and I think that’s something Jax and I will have to agree to. We had gotten to the SUV to where Jax put our bags in and opened the car door for me. I wish I remembered how to drive since it’s been about twenty years. I sat back on the seat with my legs to my chest and my phone to my hands. It was quiet and I was sleepy per usual. I was finally going to get some closure and if it’s true that he is my dad, would he want me? He has kids already.

“I think we should find a place outside the kingdom.”

I looked over at him and was shocked by what he said. He read my mind because I don’t want to live here anymore.

“So, are you asking to build a house so we can be a family? Like, move in?”

He nodded his head. I have never done something like that. I guess you can count Hades, but I don’t.

“Done deal. Now onto the most important question. You were in a relationship not too long ago. Who was it with and don’t you lie to me?”

You could hear the gulp in his throat before a sigh came out. I already knew the answer, but I need to hear it from him.

“Valerie. Technically, I cheated on her with you now. But I broke it off the next day. I think me getting with her was me trying to move on but honestly, she wasn’t you.”

I couldn’t lie that it stung. I was hurt to know the one he cheated on me with and that he cheated on her with me. I am not that type of woman.

“How can I trust that you won’t cheat on me again?” I asked.

It was silent for a moment before he pulled the car over the highway and put it in park.

“I don’t think it matters what I say because I know it’s going to take forever for you to trust me. I was horrible for what I did to you and her but you’re my true mate and I can promise to earn your trust back one day. I am going to be the best husband and father you could ask for. I love you Ryleigh and I am sorry for the amount of pain I’ve caused for my infidelity.”

The ache in my heart was telling me to go for it but he is right. I don’t trust him, and I am going to be worried each time he leaves out the door. Is this how relationships should be? But it is the first time he has ever apologized to me. Does that mean something or am I a fool once again? I had less than six months to find out. We have a pup on the way so that means a very short pregnancy.

“If you ever do it again, I promise I will make sure to destroy any chances of you having a relationship with your kid. I may sound petty but that is my promise and if that is too much for you just say so now. There is no way I am raising a kid with a horrible father. I had that and I’ll be damned if he or she goes through what I did.”

I was bluffing but he didn’t need to know that. Who would’ve thought this was going to be the life I live where the guy who is my mate is someone who cheated on me with my look alike? I guess with all the issues I had this was it. I wasn’t overjoyed knowing my trust issues are deeper than skin. Jax reached over and interlaced his fingers with mine.

“It is messed up, but I understand, and I agree. Nothing can erase the pain I’ve caused you. So, whatever I can do to prove I am devoted to you and our family I will do it. You want to look through my phone and computer. It's now yours. You want me to text you through the day then I will do it. I am sorry, just please don’t shut me out.”

I exhaled and looked at my flat stomach again and it was like this baby was telling me everything was going to be okay. To trust him because he is going to mean it this time. I just nodded my head and squeezed his down. Jax reached over to kiss my cheek before putting the car back in drive. Our hands stayed the same on the way there. I was so tired that I didn’t realize I had fallen asleep until my car door opened and Jax was standing there.

“Are you ready for this?” He asked.

But truth be told I wasn’t. Ready or not here we come.
