Chapter 50

It scared us to the point that I fell off the desk and he barely caught me. Jax was at the door, and we were two seconds away from being naked.

“He can’t know right now,” he said.

I looked around and saw the closet and tiptoed over there. I gestured my hand to talk to him. I watched through the cracks of the closest as it unfolded.

“Hey bro, what’s going on?” Alizac asked.

You could see the nervousness with the way Alizac was shifting his weight. But not before I realized my underwear on the desk chair. Son of a bitch. But I think he heard me because Alizac started backing up and slowly reached for them and slipped in his back pocket.

“Was Ryleigh in here? Her scent is fresh.”

I placed my hand over my mouth to stop me from making any more sounds. We were mates so my smell basically haunts him.

“Uh yeah, she dropped by for a chat and brought me some lunch. Anyways, I am busy so what’s up?”

I felt wrong that I was listening and even worse than I was hiding as well. I didn’t want him to know because then he would be all sad and I just wanted to be selfish for just a little longer. Jax has hopes for us, but I don't. I just don’t feel it anymore.

“I actually came to speak about her. There is just something about this all don’t you think? She’s been gone for so long so how do we know she is on the outside. What if she is working for him? I am sure she wouldn’t have gotten pregnant if that was the case.”

This son of a bitch. I swear I am starting to see all his true colors now that I am not in love with him. Like he wants to deem me crazy because things aren’t going his way.

“Let it go. Ryleigh has not done anything that told us she wasn’t loyal. I don’t understand why you’re trying to find something wrong with her because to me it seems like you’re trying to make yourself feel better if there is. You have a girlfriend and maybe you should focus on her instead of your ex”

Girlfriend? Did he just say, girlfriend? Why does he always do this to me? Judge me while he does the same thing. At least I don’t rub it in his face. I gave him space and time. I was patient the second time around and chose him over everyone. Now I am the problem? Why am I always the one to put things back together again? I opened the closet door, and I quickly caught his attention. He has some nerve but no more. I am no longer going to stand here and look stupid all this time.

“Who the hell do you think you are?” I said.

He was shocked and I don’t know if it was because I just came from the closet or that I heard everything he said. This time I don’t care about his feelings. He is going to hear me out once and for all.

“Yeah, I was in there. Why does everything I do need an explanation because it doesn’t suit you? If you think I am a disloyal person, then maybe you don’t know me at all.”

My hands were in a fist and my heart was seconds from beating through my best. I am so tired of a man thinking he knows what’s best for me. I am so tired of being told I am this or I am that. I am my own goddamn person and I think it’s about time that is remembered.

“Ryleigh, that is not what I am saying at all. The Ryleigh I know wouldn’t have been that naive to accidentally get pregnant. The Ryleigh I know would have come back for me, her mate. But she didn’t. She went for Alizac, who so happens has the power here. So yeah, I think something is up.”

“Do you ever listen to what you say? Because you’re too smart to sound so ignorant. Ever thought the reason I didn’t come for you is that I didn’t want to? That when I was trapped in hell, I started reevaluating my life and the people I have in it. For fuck sakes I don’t want you.”

Now I didn’t listen before I spoke because that sounded meaner than I wanted to be. His face was stiff, and his lips tucked. I let out a deep breath.

“You have a girlfriend, and I am sure she is great. But you can’t seem to stay loyal, and I don’t think I will make it should I get hurt again.”

I walked over to Alizac and reached in his back pocket to retrieve my underwear. I didn’t want to hide anything. I honestly was so tired of being the bigger person.

“I will talk to you later,” I said.

I looked at Jax who was still speechless. He saw my bottoms and just kind of put two and two together. I know I could hear his thoughts if I wanted to, but I am going to respect his privacy. From the look on his face, you’d know he was hurt and pissed and just all kinds of emotions. How could it be the right man but always the wrong time? Anytime we tried to work, it just went completely downhill. I guess sometimes the one that is made for you is just there for a lesson and that pained my heart. It hurt more knowing that I had to move on.

“I spent my time down in hell thinking about Alizac. He was the first real friend I had and honestly after everything has proved he is a changed man. He was there through everything. I no longer will lie to protect your feelings when you’ve yet apologized for hurting me with cheating.”
