Chapter 708: Investigate the Scott Family

Chapter 708: Investigate the Scott Family

When Alexander heard this, he asked, "Mom, didn't you just ask Leah?"

"If I asked her, she'd have to tell me the truth. Kevin is completely loyal to you—he wouldn't dare lie to you." Samantha added with relief, "Fortunately, Leah understood my good intentions and agreed to try dating the second son of the Scott family."

"The second son of the Scott family? Which Scott family?" Alexander asked, puzzled.

Samantha said, "They just came to Rihegde six months ago to do business, and they're planning to settle here. Haven't you heard about them in business circles? They've been making quite a splash lately, with a very strong background."

"Mom, you dare introduce Leah to people whose background you don't even know? What is their background?" Alexander asked unhappily, sounding confused.

Samantha said, "How can you say I don't know their background? You know the Hernandez family, right? Mrs. Amara Hernandez is quite close to the Scott family. The Scott family mainly does technology, pharmaceuticals, and chip research. Wide-ranging fields, very strong capabilities. According to Mrs. Hernandez, they're basically the dominant player in research, way ahead of everyone else."

"What's the company called? Who's the legal representative?" Alexander asked in a serious tone.

Samantha thought for a moment and said, "They did tell me—I think it's called... Emerge Tech. I don't know who the legal representative is though."

She asked puzzled, "What? You don't trust them?"

Alexander said helplessly, "Mom, you've been through the business world yourself. How come now that you're older, you're so careless about everything? There are lots of scammers these days—you can't be too careful."

"Scammers?" Samantha pondered. "If you hadn't mentioned it, I really wouldn't have thought of that. You're right, we shouldn't trust anyone too easily. You should investigate them too. But no matter how I look at it, I don't think they're scammers."

"Scammers don't go around saying they're scammers," Alexander said. "Wait for my news in the next couple of days, and don't let Leah meet him yet."

Samantha nodded, looking thoughtful.

Afterward, Alexander took Kevin to the study.

"Emerge Tech—look into it thoroughly for me," Alexander instructed.

Kevin bowed his head and said, "Yes, Mr. Sinclair."

Alexander tilted his head slightly, glanced at him, and said, "You've always held your head high. Why have you been keeping it down since you got back? Did something happen?"

Kevin hesitated, "Mr. Sinclair, I don't know how to tell you."

"Go ahead, let me hear what it is." Alexander casually asked while searching for something in his desk drawer.

He trusted Kevin and believed he wouldn't do anything inappropriate with Leah. After so many years of going through life and death together, the trust they'd built wasn't easily destroyed.

Kevin looked up at Alexander and told him everything that happened last night.

"Mr. Sinclair, I didn't touch Ms. Sinclair."

Alexander stopped what he was doing, looked at Kevin, then got up and walked over to him. He straightened Kevin's collar and said meaningfully, "Kevin, you've been with me for so many years. I still trust your character. You did well. Leah doesn't understand things, but you need to. Even if she didn't have all these dates today, you two still wouldn't be together."

"Mr. Sinclair, I know my place."

"Actually, loving someone doesn't mean you have to be together. Silently watching over them is also a form of love. I hope you understand that." Alexander patted his shoulder and said, "In the future, I'll find you a suitable woman. Then Leah will completely give up and stop bothering you."

"Mr. Sinclair, I'm willing to serve you loyally for life and never marry," Kevin said earnestly.

Alexander smiled, "Getting married won't stop you from being loyal. Let's close this chapter. Go investigate Emerge Tech."

Kevin was grateful for Alexander's trust, his eyes brimming with tears.

"Yes, Mr. Sinclair. I'll look into it right away."

Alexander left the study and returned to his room. Now that Leah was found, they should go home.

Lillian was packing Henry and William's clothes and asked, "Are we going to eat dinner before heading back?"

"No, once you're done packing, let's go."

Alexander casually lay down on the bed. Above him, his two sons were playing, and before him was the person he loved most.

"Leah and Kevin were together last night. Did your mom say anything?" Lillian asked.

Alexander played with his son with his hand and said, "She asked me to question Kevin. Kevin just told me everything—nothing happened between them."

"The people you train are reliable." Lillian put the folded little clothes into a bag and said with some regret, "It's just a shame. Two people who clearly love each other can't be together because of various reasons. When I was applying medicine to Leah just now, I chatted with her a bit. I felt something was off about her, like her agreement with mom had some defiance mixed in. What did she and Kevin talk about last night?"

Alexander didn't intend to hide it from her, so he told her the whole story again.

After listening, Lillian covered her mouth and gasped softly, "Leah really did that? Oh my God!"

"That explains it then. Leah is giving up on herself—hurting herself while also hurting Kevin!" she added.

"We can't help her with matters of the heart. Only when she truly figures it out will she find peace," Alexander said. "Growing through relationships always requires some suffering. But I won't let her fall into trouble or give up on herself—that won't do. Being trapped by emotions for life would be a waste."

"Time heals everything, I guess? I'm just afraid she won't think straight."

"Honey, then I'll have to trouble you to spend more time with her lately—go shopping, eat good food. Maybe her mood will improve."

"Okay, I don't want to see her stuck in this either."

At noon, Alexander left Sinclair Villa with his wife and children and went home.

A few days later, Kevin brought Alexander the investigation results on Emerge Tech. In the documents, the Scott family from their ancestors to now had conducted business cleanly, law-abiding, and had even won awards for being an excellent enterprise—not a single flaw could be found.

"Is this information reliable?" Alexander grew suspicious. This record was too clean to be normal. Anyone who mixed in business circles couldn't be without hidden flaws—they just deliberately concealed them and hadn't been deeply investigated. Since he specifically asked Kevin to thoroughly check their background, this seemingly perfect profile was really hard to believe.

Kevin said, "Peter spent several days and nights investigating this. There shouldn't be any oversights."

Alexander frowned slightly. He didn't say it was good or bad, just put the documents in the drawer and said flatly, "You can go now."

Meanwhile, Samantha was still thinking about the second son of the Scott family. After several days had passed, she counted the time and figured the investigation results should be out by now. Just then, she called Alexander.
