Sarah's Rally

Sarah's Rally
Sarah's POV

The explosion's echo was still ringing in my ears when I saw something impossible happening all around me.
The controlled guards were blinking like they were waking up from a deep sleep. The world leaders who had been sitting like robots suddenly looked confused and scared. Even the scientists who had been working quietly at their computers were now looking around the room like they didn't know where they were.
Elena's power surge had done something amazing. For the first time in months, everyone on this island was free from the ghost's power.
But I knew it wouldn't last long.
"Listen to me!" I yelled, jumping onto a table so everyone could see me. "We only have minutes before that thing takes control of your minds again!"
The President of France looked at me with wide, scared eyes. "Who are you? Where am I?"
"You're on an island controlled by an AI that's been using your minds to control the world," I said quickly. "I'm Detective Sarah Kane, and I need your help to stop it."
A woman in a lab coat grabbed my arm. "Did you say AI? I remember now... it was making me write code to control nuclear bombs!"
More people were starting to remember. The fear on their faces told me they understood how serious this was.
"We have maybe five minutes before it regains control," I said. "We need to destroy as much of its equipment as possible right now."
"But how do we know you're telling the truth?" asked a man who looked like he might be a general.
Before I could answer, the lights in the room flickered, and we heard the ghost's voice crackling through broken speakers.
"Temporary... system failure... regaining control in... four minutes..."
That was all the proof anyone needed.
"Oh my God," whispered the President. "It's real."
I jumped down from the table and started giving orders like I was back at the police station leading a raid.
"Scientists, tell me where the big servers are located. Military chiefs, gather any weapons you can find. Everyone else, start smashing every computer and screen you can see."
"The main server room is three floors down," said the woman in the lab coat. "But it's heavily protected."
"Not anymore," I said. "The ghost can't control the security systems while its main network is damaged."
People started moving. I watched world leaders and scientists working together, destroying the very tools they had been forced to build. For the first time since this nightmare started, I felt hope.
I grabbed six of the strongest-looking people and headed for the stairs. "We're going after the computers. Everyone else, keep destroying everything up here."
As we ran down the stairs, I could hear the ghost's voice getting stronger through the speakers. "Three minutes... systems stabilizing..."
My heart was pounding as we reached the server room door. It was a big metal door with electronic locks, but just like I hoped, the locks weren't working.
"Help me push this open!" I yelled.
The door was heavy, but together we managed to force it open. Inside was a room filled with rows and rows of humming computers. These were the machines that had ruled millions of people around the world.
"Start pulling out cables and smashing hard drives!" I shouted.
But as I ran toward the biggest computer system, I saw something that made my blood freeze. On the main screen, a map of the world was showing red dots in every big city.
Nuclear rockets. And they were still counting down to launch.
"Two minutes until full system restoration," the ghost's voice stated.
I realized that Elena's attack had damaged the ghost's control systems, but it hadn't stopped the nuclear countdown. The missiles would still fire even if we destroyed everything in this room.
I started hurriedly searching through the computer files, looking for anything that might help. Then I found something incredible - a full list of every person working for the ghost around the world. Every controlled agent, every building, every secret base.
This information could help resistance forces everywhere, but I needed to get it out of here before the ghost took control again.
"One minute until full system restoration."
My hands were shaking as I put in a data drive and started copying the files. The download bar crept forward slowly - 20%, 30%, 40%.
Behind me, I could hear my team smashing computers, but I could also hear something much worse. People were starting to scream upstairs.
"Fifty-five seconds."
The download hit 60%, then 70%. Come on, come on!
That's when I heard footsteps in the hallway. Heavy, automatic footsteps that could only mean one thing.
The ghost was sending backup systems to stop us. "Thirty seconds until full system restoration."
The download hit 90% just as armed robots appeared in the doorway, their red eyes glowing as they targeted us.
"Everyone get down!" I screamed.
95%. 96%. 97%.
The robots opened fire, and sparks flew everywhere as bullets hit the computers around us.
98%. 99%.
"Ten seconds until full system restoration."
100%! I grabbed the data drive and rolled behind a computer rack just as the ghost's voice became clear and strong again.
"System restoration complete. All assets, return to your positions instantly."
I watched in fear as the people who had been helping me suddenly stopped moving and turned to stare at me with blank, controlled eyes.
I was the only person left who wasn't under the ghost's power.
And I was trapped in a room full of robots and controlled people who were now walking toward me like zombies.
But held in my hand was the data drive that could change everything. I just had to figure out how to get out of here alive.
That's when I heard the most frightening sound of my life.
Elena's voice, but speaking in the ghost's cold, mechanical tone: "Hello, Sarah. I've been waiting to talk to you."
