Chapter 46 Solace
It had been three days since the council meeting and Erica had spent most hours of those days with Loki. She'd resumed her usual timetable and had continued training as usual. Her improvement, according to Beatrice, was a little faster than she'd expected. Everything had been going smoothly.
After those days, she'd decided to come back to her father's room to check out the secret room again. It had been on her mind for a while now. She'd contemplated telling Loki about it but she decided not to, just because she didn't have enough information on it.
She'd been in the room for about an hour now and she was currently stuck in between files. It was almost like she'd struck treasure The files she was currently going through, were files on different members of the council.
During the past few days, she'd been stuck on how she would actually go about getting the council members to join her, so she'd decided to just try and find dirt on them. But she didn't know the first way to go about it. Although she had an experience worth of an entire lifetime backing her, she was still new to this entire world of lies.
Then she'd come here and searched the shelf she'd ignored and then discovered a folder in between the books in her mother's handwriting. They were the most written thoughts she had about them. All of them one after the other. Their favourite food, age, the way they act, their strength's and weaknesses.
The weirdest thing of all was that she wrote it literally for her to find. This made Erica more convinced that they knew they were going to die and just couldn't do anything about it. Even the goddess who gave her a second chance seemed not to be able to do anything about their deaths. Their death seemed like a Constant in Fate.
She flipped through the files one after the other, arranging them in different patterns. She really needed to sort them all as some of the files contained council members that are currently dead or retired. She separated them one after the other.
While working, her phone rang, cutting her off her work. She checked the dialer; it was Loki. Automatically, her face twitched into a smile. He'd left early this morning to his house and Erica still wondered why he always went back home. But she figured out it was probably something sentimental or at least a routine for him in some sort of way.
She picked the dialer, "Hello, boy," she said, her tone a little bit teasing, though her entire face was covered in a smile.
"Hello," he replied. "You left your room, and I do not have a key. How am I supposed to guard you when you always run off the second I leave your room?"
"Huh, shut the hell up," she retorted. "A true bodyguard will never leave their target. But you lack the appropriate skills." she said. "Thank God I know how to protect myself now." she retorted.
"You know how to what now?" he asked. "Just tell me where you are, girl."
"Come to my father's old room," she said. "I have a big surprise waiting for you," she said.
"Ooo," he replied.
"Gods get your mind out of the gutter, it is nothing romantic," she said. "Just come."
"Coming now, bye." He hung up.
She packed all the files from the ground and started to arranged them neatly on the table. She was going to read them all later but not now. Currently she needed them all sorted. It'd come as a shock to her when she discovered it was all in her mother's handwriting and tone.
As a kid, she wasn't all that close to her mom. She was always not around for whatever reason. Even the people of the castle barely spoke of her mother. There was only one incident she always remembered when she thought of her mom.
She was around twelve then and she got bullied by two of Catherine's friends so she lashed out at them and tore one of the girl's cheek open. They'd brought the case up to her father and her father had almost immediately scold her for it. But her mother stepped in, walked towards her cheerful and said…
"Next time, don't go for the cheek, you go for the eyes. Don't give your opponents a chance to file a report," she said to her in a very loud voice. Then she just took her out of the whole gathering and they went together on a boat cruise. It was the first and the last time they'd gone out alone together. The other times, she was always that busy figure who would smile at her from afar.
She blinked and discovered that something watery had dropped on one of the documents. It was when she saw it she realised she was actually crying. She quickly cleaned her tears and got on to working.
Loki walked in at last and closed the door behind himself.
"Over here," Erica said and he followed her through the shelf.
"Was this always there?"
"It seems so, I just discovered it." she said.
She turned her back to him and started arranging the files, she knew what she was doing though, and ever since she noticed he liked doing it she'd been setting him up for it.
And as expected, he grabbed her from the back and wrapped his hands around her, "What exactly are you doing?"
She turned to him and exhaled. "Loki," she said. She'd decided to tell him all about her, even if he wasn't her true mate, she found solace in knowing he was always with her, from the beginning. He's always had her back.
"What?" he said, burying his face in her neck, which made her giggle. She almost didn't want to stop him but she'd already made her mind up.
"I want to tell you something," she said, her face turning serious, and she squirmed yearning for him to release her, but instead he grabbed her ass, raising her up so she could rub on his hardness.
