Chapter 50 Alright, Then I'll Make You Lose This Child Forever!
Rachel's serene almond-shaped eyes locked onto Nancy, she flashed a soft smile as she watched Nancy's pitifully fake demeanor.
"Of course, you're my best friend. I trust you more than anyone. I wouldn't misunderstand you."
Nancy suspected Rachel had an ulterior motive.
Even Rachel's words seemed barbed, dripping with sarcasm.
Rachel had truly changed.
But why?
Was it really just because she suspected Nancy of being a homewreck?
Nancy pretended not to notice, letting out a sigh of relief. "So, did you and Steven make up? I didn't want to bother you last night, so I didn't message you. When you didn't show up this morning, I was really worried. Even though I don't think much of Steven, he's always been good to you."
Rachel's sudden question caught her off guard. "Why don't you think much of him?"
Back in school, Steven was the ideal boyfriend every girl dreamed of.
Except Nancy, who always found fault with him.
Maybe her constant criticism was just a guise to break up Rachel and Steven under the pretense of looking out for Rachel?
The thought sent a chill down Rachel's spine.
Because of Nancy's cunning and deceit.
Without the text messages, she would never have guessed that the two people she was closest to could betray and deceive her.
What would the consequences be?
Nancy was momentarily stunned.
Whenever she brought this up before, Rachel would always smooth things over and never questioned her.
Her mind raced, and she let out a small huff, muttering, "Because he took my best friend away. In my eyes, you're perfect, but him? He always seemed lacking. Now, seeing how good he is to you, I reluctantly accept him."
Rachel wasn't surprised by this answer.
Best friends?
What if everyone knew that Nancy hurt her pregnant friend for Steven?
Rachel lowered her gaze, clenched her fists, and probed, "Last night, when Steven found out I was pregnant, he was overjoyed. He even looked up pregnancy tips online. If I hadn't stopped him, he would've spent all night picking names for the baby."
Nancy froze, seeing the warmth and happiness in Rachel's eyes. In that moment, the jealousy and resentment she had suppressed struggled to break free from the confines of her heart.
Her heart felt like a sponge, soaked with water, each breath and beat causing immense pain.
So, Steven hadn't been returning her messages or calls because Rachel was pregnant?
For a brief moment, she was consumed by a fierce desire to tear apart Rachel's sweet, happy expression.
The pain from her nails digging into her palm barely pulled her back from the brink of losing control. Forcing a smile, she said, "Of course Steven's happy. He's been waiting so long to be a dad."
As soon as they exited the elevator, Nancy, afraid she couldn't maintain her facade, excused herself to the restroom.
Her venomous gaze was glued to her chat with Steven as she gripped her phone so tightly that her fingertips turned pale. Her heart was instantly engulfed by a dark swamp of hatred.
So, Steven loved the baby Rachel was carrying?
Nancy wondered, 'Fine, then I'll make sure you lose it forever!'
The thought of Rachel's despair and breakdown from a miscarriage made Nancy chuckle coldly.
Sarah, washing her hands outside, froze for a moment, feeling a chill. She glanced at the door where the laughter was coming from and quickly left the restroom.
