Chapter 63 Clash of the beasts
Aloria
The laughter fades behind me as I dash through the trees, my heart racing with exhilaration. The world around me blurs into a vibrant tapestry of greens and browns, the forest alive with the sounds of rustling leaves and distant birdsong. River’s voice calls out, teasing me to slow down, but I won’t let him catch me. Not today.
I leap over a fallen log, the thrill of the chase coursing through my veins like wildfire. I can feel the energy of the forest, the pulse of life all around me. Everything feels so alive, so vibrant, until suddenly, it doesn’t.
A chilling scream slices through the air, shattering the moment like a glass dropped on stone. My heart lurches as I recognize the voices… my brothers. Panic tightens in my chest, and without thinking, I sprint towards the sound, my instincts kicking in. I can’t let anything happen to them.
As I break through the underbrush, I skid to a halt. My brothers are cornered, three massive werebears looming over them, their hulking forms blocking any escape. The sight of their fur-clad bodies fills me with dread. This far south? What are they doing here?
“Look who we have here,” one of the bears growls, his voice deep and mocking. He turns his gaze to me, a cruel smile spreading across his face. “Isn’t this the little lost princess? And Alpha River… I heard you were dead, River.
“Guess the rumors were exaggerated.” River all but growls.
I feel his presence behind me and turn slightly to see him tense, his expression darkening.
“Maybe I can change that,” the bear taunts, his eyes glinting with malice.
“No!” The word escapes my lips before I can think, fueled by adrenaline and a surge of protective instinct. My brothers are in danger, and I can’t let them be harmed. Without a second thought, I charge forward, a wild determination surging through me.
In a flash, I reach my brothers, scooping them up with a speed that feels almost supernatural. They gasp in surprise as I pull them close, my heart racing as I feel their small bodies against me. “Come on!” I urge, my voice fierce. “We have to go!”
Before they can even register what’s happening, I’m weaving through the trees, my feet pounding against the forest floor. I can hear the bears’ growls behind me, their disbelief palpable. “What the hell?” one of them exclaims, a mix of confusion and anger.
I don’t stop to look back. I can hear River’s laughter behind me as he taunts the bears. I race toward safety, and I barely break a sweat. The world shifts around us, and I feel an exhilarating rush coursing through me, a powerful connection to my newfound strength.
We burst into a clearing where our mother stands, her eyes wide with fear. Relief floods her features as she sees us, and I gently set my brothers down. “Stay close!” I command, my voice firm.
“Kellan!” I shout, spotting our trusted beta. “Stay with my mother and brothers, keep 5 warriors. Protect them at all cost!” He nods, a determined look crossing his face as he moves into position.
Before I can second-guess myself, I feel the familiar pull of my wolf within, a primal energy surging to the surface. I take a step back from my family, feeling the shift begin. Bones crack and reform, muscles ripple beneath my skin, and in an instant, I’m transformed…a sleek, powerful wolf, my fur shimmering in the dappled light.
The rest of the warriors shift beside me, a pack of magnificent wolves. My heart swells with pride as I stand alongside them, ready to face the threat that looms.
My father joins us, his massive golden form imposing and regal. The werebears don’t stand a chance.
With a howl that echoes through the trees, we launch ourselves into the fray to help River, a united force against the intruders. The bears roar in anger, their powerful bodies charging toward us, but we are faster, more agile. We weave through the trees, dodging their lumbering attacks.
I can feel the adrenaline pounding in my veins, the thrill of the hunt igniting my senses. I dodge one bear, my body low to the ground, then leap to the side as another swings a massive paw at me. I can’t let fear take hold; I have to protect my family, my pack.
River lunges at the first bear, his teeth bared, and I follow suit, targeting the second. We move in synchrony, a dance of fur and teeth, each strike calculated and precise. The world narrows to this moment, and nothing else matters.
The third bear charges River, but with a swift motion, I intercept, sinking my teeth into the side of its leg. It roars in pain, stumbling back, and I feel a surge of triumph.
In the chaos, I catch a glimpse of Kellan and the warriors, their fierce forms standing guard, shielding my mother and brothers..:, their growls mixing with ours. Together, we are a force of nature..: untamed and wild.
The air is thick with the scent of earth and fur, the sounds of battle ringing in my ears. The world feels alive, electric with the thrill of the fight. As I take down another bear, I realize that this is where I belong… at the forefront, protecting those I love.
With one final, powerful leap, I tackle the last bear, forcing it to the ground. I can hear my heart pounding in my ears, the satisfaction surging through me as I pin it down.
As it struggles, I look around, seeing the chaos of the battle beginning to settle. River stands tall, his dark fur gleaming, and I can see the pride in his eyes. My family is safe, my pack is strong, and together we will face whatever darkness looms ahead.
With the last of the bears subdued, I let out a victorious howl, the sound echoing through the trees. We’ve won this battle, but I know this is only the beginning. The threat is real, and we’ll have to stay vigilant. But for now, as I stand with River and my family, I feel an overwhelming sense of hope.
Together, we will reclaim our home, our future, and we’ll do it side by side… maybe this vampire curse is not as much a curse as I thought..
