Chapter 61 Travelling
Aloria
The morning sun spills through the window, casting a warm glow over the room as I stretch, feeling the remnants of yesterday’s session settle into my bones. I take a moment to relish the stillness, the soft rustle of leaves outside, and the distant call of birds. It’s peaceful, a welcome contrast to the turmoil I’ve fought against in recent days.
River woke me about ten minutes ago with a swift kiss, saying he would go make sure everything Was ready, and to come downstairs when I was ready.
I rise and dress quickly, my mind swirling with thoughts of the journey ahead. Today, we’re starting the journey back to the pack, and with it comes both excitement and trepidation. I glance in the mirror, taking in my reflection: the same Aloria, yet somehow different. There’s a spark in my eyes, a flicker of resilience where fear once dwelled.
Downstairs, the smell of breakfast wafts through the air, and I find my family gathered around the table. My parents, though weary, wear expressions of love and support. Arly digs into his food with enthusiasm, while Arthenon shoots me a wide grin, his innocence a balm for my soul.
“Morning, Aloria,” Arly calls out, his mouth full of scrambled eggs. “Are you ready to go? I can’t wait to see the pack again.”
“Me too,” I reply, my heart quickening. The thought of reuniting with our pack stirs something deep within me… an urge to prove myself, to show them that I’m still one of them, even with this new, complicated facet of my existence.
River steps into the dining room, his presence instantly commanding attention. He looks well-rested, his usual confident demeanor intact. “How are you handling the hunger?” he asks, his voice low and smooth, as if he’s afraid to disrupt the fragile peace of the morning.
I glance around the table before leaning in closer, my voice a conspiratorial whisper. “Your… feeding really helped. I’m handling it better now.” The memory of his lips brushing against my skin, the warmth of his blood coursing through me, sends a shiver of exhilaration down my spine.
His eyes widen for a moment, an understanding passing between us. “Good,” he replies softly, a satisfied smile breaking across his face. “I knew you had it in you.”
Just then, my parents comes in, and the chatter fills the room once more. I find comfort in the familiar routines, the laughter, and the love that binds us together.
Once breakfast is done, we step outside, the crisp morning air invigorating even here in the city. The sun climbs higher in the sky, and I savor the sensation of the breeze against my skin… the perfect contrast to the chaos that has threatened to engulf me.
The donkey-drawn cart waits on the street, packed with supplies and my parents’ belongings. Kellan stands nearby, his strong presence a reassuring anchor. He motions for the warriors to gather, their faces a mix of determination and camaraderie.
“Let’s move out!” Kellan calls, his voice booming with authority, and the group springs into action. River moves beside me, and I can feel the warmth radiating from him, grounding me as we prepare for the journey ahead.
With a flick of the reins, the donkey starts to plod forward, and we follow closely behind. Son we exit the city. The path through the forest is familiar, yet it feels different today… alive and vibrant, as if the world knows of my newfound resolve.
As we walk, River matches my pace, the rhythm of our steps synchronized. “So, what’s the first thing you want to do when we get back to the pack?” he asks, a playful glint in his eyes.
I think for a moment, my heart racing at the possibilities. “I want to train. I want to hone my instincts, learn to control this hunger fully, maybe find a way to Channel it to make me stronger” I say, a fierce determination igniting within me. “I want to show them that I’m still Aloria, that I can be both.”
River nods, his expression serious. “You will. And I’ll be right there with you, training and fighting by your side.”
The forest around us begins to shift, the trees swaying gently as we make our way deeper into the heart of the woods. Sunlight filters through the leaves, dappling the ground in patches of gold, and I can almost hear the whispers of the pack calling out to me.
As we walk, I feel the hunger stir within, a gentle reminder of my dual nature. But instead of fear, I feel a sense of empowerment. I can channel this, I remind myself; I can embrace both the wolf and the vampire.
“Aloria!” Arly’s voice breaks through my thoughts, and I turn to see him racing ahead, his laughter echoing through the trees. “Catch me if you can!”
Before I can think, my instincts kick in, and I sprint after him, the thrill of the chase igniting something primal within me. The wind rushes past, and for a moment, I feel like I’m truly alive, the wolf within me relishing the freedom. I can sense River behind me, his laughter mingling with Arly’s as we weave through the trees.
“Look out!” Arthenon yells, and I dodge to the side just in time to avoid a low-hanging branch.
The world blurs around me as I run, the forest alive with the sound of our laughter.
As we break through to a small clearing, I halt, breathless and exhilarated. The sunlight bathes us in warmth, and I glance back at River, who catches up to me, his chest heaving with exertion.
“See? You’re already embracing your new self,” he says, his eyes shining with pride.
I smile, feeling the flicker of hope grow within me. The journey ahead is uncertain, but I’m ready to face it—ready to embrace every facet of who I am. Together, with River by my side and the pack waiting for us, I know we can conquer whatever darkness lies ahead.
The road stretches out before us, and I take a deep breath, feeling the pulse of life around me. This is just the beginning. I’m ready to reclaim my place in the pack, ready to forge my own path. The forest whispers my name, and I answer back with a fierce, unwavering spirit.
