Chapter 54 Vampires
Aloria
The alley is dark and foreboding, a stark contrast to the vibrant marketplace just behind us. My heart races as I spot Arly, his small frame trembling against the shadows. I can sense the danger, the weight of it pressing down on me like a heavy blanket. My instincts scream at me to act.
“Let go of him!” I shout again, fear igniting a fierce protectiveness within me. I can feel the power thrumming just beneath my skin, a potent reminder of what I really am. The two shadowy figures turn at my voice, their faces obscured by the dim light. But I can see their eyes glinting with malice… vampires.
“Look what we have here,” one of them sneers, his fangs visible in the flickering light. “A littleq she-wolf, all alone.”
“Arly!” I cry, desperation clawing at my throat. I take a step forward, but before I can react, I feel my mother’s presence surge within me… it is her wolf… a comforting warmth that ignites my instincts.
Shift with me, she urges silently, and I nod, feeling the change begin to take place.
In an instant, the world around me shifts as my body transforms. My senses heighten, the scents of the alley flooding my nostrils… the musty stone, the lingering aroma of spices from the market, and the unmistakable scent of blood. I let out a low growl, my wolf instincts rising to the surface, empowering me with strength and ferocity.
Beside me, I sense my mother’s wolf, her magnificent form towering beside mine. The sleek, silvery fur glimmers in the dim light, and I can feel the bond between us tightening, an unspoken understanding that we are in this fight together.
With a fierce roar, I spring forward, my powerful legs propelling me towards the vampires. The first one lunges at me, but I sidestep, feeling the rush of air as he narrowly misses. My claws extend, and I swipe at him, catching his shoulder. He hisses in pain, stumbling back, and I can sense my mother moving in an elegant arc beside me, her presence a solid force of protection.
Get away from him she growls, her voice echoing through the alley as she lunges at the vampire holding Arly. The second vampire, realizing we are a formidable duo, shifts his attention to her, but I won’t let him. I dart forward, aiming for the first vampire again, teeth bared and adrenaline surging through my veins.
The alley reverberates with growls and snarls, the clash of our bodies against theirs echoing in the confined space. I can feel Arly’s fear, a tight knot in my chest, but I push it aside, focusing on the fight. I’m a protector; I won’t let anything happen to him.
With a sudden burst of energy, I leap onto the first vampire, knocking him to the ground. My teeth sink into his arm, and he screams, thrashing beneath me. I hear my mother’s growl, a reminder that she’s still battling the other one. But my focus is on this vampire; I can’t back down now.
He attempts to throw me off, but I dig my claws into his chest, feeling the warmth of his blood seep onto my fur. Just as I think I have the upper hand, I feel a sharp pain in my side… a bite. I gasp, jolted by the sudden sting.
The second vampire has managed to sink his fangs into me, and I let out a howl of pain and fury. But I refuse to let it slow me. I twist and snap my teeth, catching his leg and tearing into the flesh. He yelps, releasing me as I roll away, adrenaline fueling my movements.
I barely register the pain in my side as I rise again, my eyes locked on the two vampires, who are now visibly shaken. They glance at each other, realization dawning that they are outmatched.
“Let’s go!” the first vampire hisses, his voice laced with urgency. They begin to retreat, and I step forward, ready to chase them down, but my mother nudges my side with her muzzle, grounding me.
Not now, she conveys, and I can feel her resolve. She knows we have to protect Arly first.
With a final, furious snarl, I watch as the two vampires slip into the shadows, their forms vanishing into the city. The alley falls silent, and I turn to Arly, who is still trembling but now with tears of relief streaming down his face.
“Aloria!” he cries, rushing into my legs. I lower myself, nuzzling him with my snout, feeling his small frame tremble against me.
My mother approaches, her eyes softening as she looks at both of us. I can feel her worry, the concern that courses through our bond, but also pride for how we fought together.
We need to get out of here, she urges, her thoughts clear. I nod, shifting back to my human form, the pain in my side reminding me of the bite.
“Arly, are you okay?” I ask, my voice trembling slightly as I pull him closer, wrapping my arms around him tightly.
“I was so scared, Aloria,” he whispers, his voice muffled against me. “I thought they were going to take me.”
“I won’t let that happen,” I promise, my heart heavy with the weight of my words. I glance at my mother, who is already shifting back, her eyes filled with determination.
“We need to get back to the others,” she says, her voice steady despite our recent encounter. “Aloria, we need to have that bite looked at.”
I try to brush it off, even if it still hurt, “It’s not that bad… I am sure it will heal soon.”
“No it won’t… it is a vampire bite,” My mother says, fear in her eyes. “We need to have it checked… if he injected his poison.”
I know she is right that it doesn’t heal, I feel the blood running down my side. “Wait what? Vampires are poisones?”
