Chapter 50 Family planning

Chapter 50 Family planning
Aloria
The scent of spices and roasted meat fills the air as I carry a steaming platter of food outside, my heart buoyed by the sound of laughter and chatter. The sun hangs low in the sky, casting a warm golden glow over our little gathering. River’s presence has shifted something in the atmosphere, and I can almost feel the energy crackle around us as I set the food down at the long table where my family and his warriors await.
“Look at this feast,” one of my brothers exclaims, his eyes wide with delight as we hand out the plates. “We could live like this forever!”
“Imagine living in the castle again,” my other brother pipes up, his voice brimming with excitement. “With enough food and laughter to fill every hall… and with warriors like these to protect us.”
I can’t help but smile at their enthusiasm. “We’d all have to learn how to cook like me, then,” I tease, placing a playful hand on my hip, before guiding them inside to the table, “Otherwise, we’d starve while waiting for the royal chef to whip up a feast.”
River chuckles from across the room, his eyes sparkling with warmth as he watches me interact with my family. I catch his gaze, and a rush of affection sweeps over me. He fits seamlessly into their world, as if he’s always belonged here, sharing in their laughter and joy.
As we settle into our seats, my father begins to speak, his voice steady and calm amidst the lively banter. “I had a conversation with River earlier,” he says, drawing our attention. “About reclaiming the kingdom from my brother.”
The table falls silent, the air thick with anticipation. I glance at my brothers, their eyes wide, the idea hanging in the air like a promise waiting to be fulfilled.
“Reclaim the kingdom?” my oldest baby brother asks, barely able to contain his excitement. “But… how? He’s been king for years!”
River leans forward, his intensity palpable. “Your father has the support of the people. They remember his reign, the stability he brought. They want a leader who cares for them, a leader like him.”
I can see the flicker of hope in my father’s eyes as he looks at River, the weight of his past battles reflected in the lines on his face. “But it’s not just about me,” he replies, his voice low. “It’s about the safety of my family. I can’t risk putting you all in danger.”
“Dad, we’re not little kids anymore,” I interject, my voice firm yet filled with warmth. “We’ve faced challenges before, and we’ve come out stronger. If we stand together, we can make this work.”
My youngest brother nods vigorously. “I want to live in the castle again… I can’t really remember when we did. We could have adventures, and I could explore every hidden room!”
The table erupts in laughter, and my heart swells. “Exploring the castle could be fun,” I say, my voice teasing. “But I doubt you’d want to clean it when you find all the dust bunnies hiding in the corners.”
River chuckles, his gaze shifting from me to my father, sensing the excitement that’s started to build. “The people need a king who will listen to their needs, one who will protect them. We can help you, and we can do it together.”
My father’s eyes seem to brighten as he absorbs River’s words. “You truly believe that?” he asks, his voice tinged with a mixture of hope and fear.
“I do,” River replies earnestly. “We all do. You have a legacy that still lives in the hearts of your people. They want to fight for you. They want you to lead them again.”
As my father contemplates this, my brothers lean forward, the thrill of possibility lighting their faces. “Imagine the castle, Dad!” my brother exclaims. “With a grand banquet hall, and we could host parties for the entire kingdom.”
“Not just parties… being a King is not so much about the parties after all,” I add, my heart racing with excitement. “We could host gatherings to unite our people, to show them that we care. We could create a place where everyone feels at home.”
The atmosphere at the table shifts, and I can feel the warmth of possibility swirling around us. My father’s brow furrows in thought, but I can see that the idea is beginning to take root in his heart. “I’ve always wanted that for our kingdom,” he admits quietly. “But I fear the consequences…”
“Sometimes, the greatest risks yield the greatest rewards,” River says, his voice steady. “You could be the king they need, a king who listens, who brings peace and prosperity back to our land.”
I reach across the table, placing my hand over my father’s. “We believe in you, Dad. We believe in you. Together, we can create a future where love and unity triumph over greed and betrayal… the People deserve better than my uncle.”
He looks at each of us, his gaze lingering on River, then on his children, and I can see the resolve beginning to form within him. “If we do this, we do it as a family,” he says, his voice stronger now. “No one gets left behind.”
“You have the support of me and my pack,” River says.
The table erupts in cheers, and I can feel the energy buzzing around us like a spark ready to ignite. My heart races as I glance at River, and I see the pride shining in his eyes. This is only the beginning, I think. Together, we can reclaim our kingdom, and with it, our family’s legacy.
As we dive into the feast, laughter and joy fill the air once more, but I can feel the undercurrents of change swirling beneath the surface.
