Chapter 47 Coming home
Aloria
I take a shaky step forward, my heart racing as I stand before this man, this king… my father. The reality of the moment feels surreal, like a dream I can’t wake from.
“Can this be true?” He whisper, his voice barely above a breath.
A thousand questions swirl in my mind, yet all I can focus on is the warmth radiating from his presence, a beacon of hope amidst the chaos.
He studies me, his gaze penetrating, searching deep into my soul as if trying to piece together fragments of a life lost. I feel a need to offer proof of my heritage, “I can show you my birthmark.”
But instead he steps forward, taking my hands in his, his grip firm yet gentle. “Aloria,” he says, his voice thick with emotion as he gazes into my eyes for a moment, searching. “You don’t need to show me anything.” His eyes glisten with unshed tears, and I feel a rush of warmth as he continues, “I see you. I know you.” His sincerity washes over me like a soothing balm, and before I realize what’s happening, tears begin to trail down my cheeks, a release of all the pent-up longing I never knew I carried.
Without hesitation, he pulls me into his arms, enveloping me in a hug that feels like coming home. I melt against him, soaking in the strength and safety that radiates from his being. This is how a father should react, I think, and for the first time in my life, I feel I found my true home.
When we finally pull apart, I meet his gaze, and I can see the joy mixed with sadness swirling in his eyes. “You’ve grown so strong, my daughter,” he says, a smile breaking through the tears that still cling to his cheeks. “And as beautiful as your morher.”
“Thank you,” I breathe, still trying to process the weight of his words. I can hardly believe that I’m standing here, with my father, surrounded by warriors who have fought to protect me. My gaze shifts to River, who stands a few paces behind, his expression a mixture of pride and protectiveness. “This is River,” I say, gesturing toward him. “Alpha River Tempest of the Silverfang pack… my mate.”
My father’s eyes narrow, a flicker of recognition sparking in his gaze. “Ah, the Silverfang Alpha.” He nods, a hint of respect threading through his voice. “You’ve earned your reputation, River. Thank you for protecting my daughter.”
River straightens, his chest puffing out slightly at the praise, yet his eyes remain keenly focused on me, scanning for any sign of distress. “I would do anything for her,” he replies, his voice low and steady.
My father smiles, a warmth spreading across his features. “Then we should get to safety. There’s much to discuss, and your mother wishes to meet you… and your brothers as well.”
“Brothers?” I echo, the word tumbling from my lips like a revelation. “I have brothers?” The thought is both thrilling and terrifying, the idea of siblings I never knew existing somewhere out there.
“Yes,” he replies, a glimmer of pride lighting his eyes. “Two younger ones. Arly is thirteen, Arthenon is ten. They’ve been waiting for you, longing for the day they could meet their sister.”
I can’t contain the excitement bubbling within me. “I can’t believe this, I have a real family.” The enormity of that statement sends a rush of emotions coursing through me, and I can hardly process how much my life has changed in a matter of moments.
“Come,” my father says, motioning for us to follow him. “We must move swiftly. It isn’t safe to linger here.”
As we weave through the forest, the towering trees seem to part for my father, guiding us deeper into a realm I’ve never known. The air is alive with the sounds of rustling leaves, the soft calls of distant birds, and the gentle whisper of the wind. River walks close beside me, his presence a steady anchor that reassures me even as my heart races with anticipation.
“Are you alright?” he asks, his voice low, a hint of concern etched in his brow.
“I’m… I’m amazing,” I reply, a breathy laugh escaping my lips. “I can’t believe I’m finally meeting my family.” I glance up at him, my heart swelling with gratitude. “Thank you for being here with me.”
River shares a small smile, one that warms my insides. “I’ll always be here, Aloria. No matter what.”
As we navigate the winding path, my father recounts tales of our lineage, the strength of our bloodline, and the legacy that has been waiting for me. I listen intently, hanging on his every word, weaving the threads of my identity into a tapestry I never knew existed.
“We’ve been searching for you,” he explains, his voice filled with a mix of urgency and affection. “For years, we believed you were lost to us. Your mother never gave up hope.”
“How is she?” I ask, my curiosity piqued.
“She is the strongest and bravest she-wolf I have ever met. But she longs to see you, Aloria. She feels your absence like a wound that never heals.”
I feel a pang of guilt, knowing that my mere existence had been a source of pain for my mother. “I’m sorry,” I whisper, my heart heavy with the thought of her suffering.
“There’s nothing to apologize for, you did not leave and I guess you have not know until recently” he assures me, his voice softening. “You are a beacon of light in our lives. Your return means more than you can imagine.”
As we continue, the path begins to widen, and I can feel the energy shift around us. The forest thins, revealing a clearing bathed in the golden light of dusk. In the center stands a magnificent wooden structure, adorned with intricate carvings that seem to pulse with magic.
“Welcome to our home,” my father announces, pride swelling in his chest. “This is where you belong, Aloria.”
I gasp, my breath catching in my throat as I take in the sight. This place feels alive, a sanctuary that calls to my very essence. I can hardly believe I’m finally here, about to meet the family I’ve longed for all my life.
River’s hand brushes against mine, and I turn to find him watching me with an expression that blends admiration and protectiveness. “You’ve come home, Aloria,” he says softly, his eyes holding mine. “And I’ll be right here with you.”
With a deep breath, I step forward into the light, ready to embrace the destiny that awaits me and the family I was always meant to find.
