Pov Sarah Thompson Stins.
Today is Sunday... And I'm going out.
I got ready and left my building.
When I looked up at the sky, I saw that the weather was nice...
It wasn't too cold or too hot.
Wonderful.
I started the engine and drove quickly.
I was going to meet my friends.
Today we're going to have lunch together.
Julia and Sabrina.
I had also invited Lucas yesterday by text message.
Lucas was Edgar's best friend, and I had never had the chance to get to know him properly.
I only sent him a few messages, but apart from that, nothing.
The girls always talked about him... About how handsome he was, his low, sexy voice, the affair they were having with him, a no-strings-attached affair, no demands, no feelings.
It was just... fun.
But, well, this no-strings-attached affair was a frequent occurrence. It's been a while since they've just been going out to have fun and have sex.
Because Lucas didn't want anything serious, apparently, and they didn't seem to want it either.
They said they were having fun, that it was lighthearted, and that there was no room for expectations. But even so, I was worried; I would rather not see my friends getting hurt by a man who didn't intend to stay.
That it was just... a fling for them.
What if they... end up really liking him? What if they get hurt?
It's been a while since they've been with a man for this long.
It was always... a week at most.
But they've been together longer than that.
I kept thinking about it.
When we arrived at the restaurant, the atmosphere was calm, with few tables occupied and soft music filling the air.
We sat at a table near the window. We ordered the dish of the day, meat with sautéed vegetables, well-seasoned rice, and golden potatoes. It was delicious.
We drank fresh juice, no alcohol, that day.
While we ate, the conversation flowed as usual.
"How was your week?" I asked, stirring my straw in my glass.
"Same as always..." Julia replied, sighing.
"Work, traffic, annoying clients."
"Nothing new for me either," said Sabrina, shrugging. "Except my boss decided to freak out over a report she forgot to approve."
"What about you, Sarah?" asked Lucas, looking at me over his glass.
"It was crazy," I laughed weakly. "I was focused on work this week, so I ended up disappearing."
"Yeah... Sabrina and Julia mentioned that you've been really busy." Lucas said with a half smile.
"Yeah, I ended up isolating myself from the world because of work," I replied, trying to sound natural.
Because it wasn't just work that made me isolate myself from the world...
Edgar was also to blame for that. And the memory hit me hard... his hands squeezing me, the muffled moans, his hot body pressed against mine. My God... what a fuck that was.
But I wouldn't say that, of course.
Why talk about something so personal?
"You look like you're in love..." said Lucas, raising his eyebrows.
"I am," I agreed, unable to hide my smile. "We saw each other the other day..."
"He just doesn't have time for his friends," said Lucas, rolling his eyes and snorting.
"What do you mean?" I frowned.
"Edgar barely responds to my messages," he explained, resting his elbows on the table. "When he does respond, it's something dry and monosyllabic. I wonder if he's okay or if something happened, if I upset him at some point," he commented, drinking more juice.
Hmm, I wondered what could have happened.
"Maybe he's just busy..." Sabrina commented. "Or maybe he's got a lot on his mind because of Sarah."
"But you've always been close, right?" I asked, looking at Lucas.
"We're practically brothers," he replied. "That's why I thought it was weird; I just wanted to understand."
"I can talk to him if you like," I suggested. "Set something up for the two of you to go out. Maybe he just needs a little push to remember he has friends too."
"Really? You'd do that?"
"Of course," I smiled. "Don't worry, okay? I'll find out what's going on. And I'll text you later."
Lucas relaxed a little and thanked me with a friendly smile.
We went back to talking about trivial things, but my mind was still spinning around that silent question.
Was Edgar jealous?
Was that why he wasn't paying much attention to his friend?
It couldn't be that...
Edgar wouldn't do that.
Right?
Maybe it wasn't just because he was busy... Potentially he was feeling threatened.
He knew I was with my friends, and he knew Lucas would be there too.
Could it be that he was bothered by imagining something between me and Lucas?
Did he not trust me, or Lucas, to that extent?
