Jess’s POV

I woke up at 6 am feeling fresh and ready to take on the day. Everyone else was still sleeping since we had not got to sleep until well after midnight. I quietly made my way down to the river to wash and brush my teeth. I threw on some jeans and a long-sleeved t-shirt with a singlet underneath. It was not very warm yet, but it looked like it was going to be a nice day. Romeo sat beside me and drank out of the river. I walked to the makeshift kitchen and gave him a few cold bits of meat for his breakfast. Not that he needed it as everyone was giving him left over’s last night. By the time I walked back to pack up my sleeping bag Kieran was just starting to wake up.

“Hey, gorgeous what have you been up to? You’re dressed already”

“Yeah, not all of us can sleep all day. I have got washed and dressed, fed the dog and now I am packing up my stuff so that I am all ready to go”

“Wait wont someone have to make breakfast?”

“Why we have protein bars in our packs that we can eat as we walk”

“I hate it when you are always right”

“Come on get up. If we set of early, we might be able to get to the proper camp by lunch time” I wanted to get to the camp so bad and set up. As soon as that camp was set up I would be able to start training. I ran over to check if john needed as hand.

“No, I am fine thanks Jess. I have already sent some boys over to fill in the holes and a couple of ladies are packing away the kitchen as we speak”
“Yeah so that means we will be able to head off soon?”

“Yes, I am hoping to be on the road in the next half an hour. It should take us about five to six hours to get to our destination. I will get others to go and do the hunting and preparing this time. I will find a butcher as we walk. I am guessing that you will want to get in to training as soon as we are settled”

“You guessed right. I will put more training in with anyone else who wants it too, but I will only be doing combat training so if they don’t want to get beaten up until the war then they might not want to join in”

“Don’t push yourself or others too hard we need you in one piece for the war”

“I promise I won’t hurt anyone too bad”

“Good. Can you do a run around and make sure they everything has been packed up and make sure that everyone is ready to go. If they moan about been hungry point out to them where their protein bars and snack food is kept in their pack”

“Will do boss” I ran off at a fast jog around the camp. I checked that no one had left anything behind and yelled at the people who had not yet started packing up to hurry the hell up or get left behind. Everyone was stood with their packs on waiting to go in just ten minutes. John smiled at me and gave me a nod as he headed out, and everyone followed. This part of the trip was more open, so people got to walk in groups and talk to each other.

I was shocked when we reached the camp. It was a huge empty valley with hills all around the edge. We had to walk between two huge hills to get in.

“Ok this is where the Aliens are going to land, so we are not setting up camp here. When we cross the clearing and climb over a small hill there is another clearing that is smaller than this one but still big enough for us to set up camp. When we have set up camp Jess will be doing hand to hand combat training if anyone wants to take part. I will warn you that she won’t hold back and she will kick your arse. Ok with that said please follow me”

I looked around as we walked through the valley. It would make a very good battlefield. I was getting more and more excited the closer that the battle came. It seemed odd though that they had chosen such a remote place to land. It would take them ages to get the women up here. I ran over to Grantan.

“Hey, why are they choosing to land here? Its miles away from anywhere. How are they expecting to get the women up here?”

“They do not want anyone to see them land. They want to do this slowly and carefully they are going to land here and bring the women up in small groups. Well, that’s what they want to do but they will not get any women up here as we will stop them as soon as they land”

“They had a good plan. I am glad that you are on our side”

“Thank you, Jess. I am glad that I am on your side too”

As soon as we arrived at the smaller valley, I threw my pack towards Hayley. “Hey, can you please throw this down wherever you guys decide to set up”

“Sure, but where will you be?”

“I am going to do a run around the perimeter of where the aliens are going to land”

Hayley just looked at me and sent me a telepathic message telling me I was crazy. I shook my head at her and ran off to find John. He was walking around telling people what to do. “Hey boss I was thinking that I might go and do a run of the perimeter, would you like to come with me? It will give you a better idea of where to place people”

“See Jess this is why I keep you around. But I am a bit busy at the moment, but will you be able to go with Kieran?”

“Sure, thing boss we will report back to you when we are finish”

“Take your weapons with you just in case”

“No worries” I ran off to see where Kieran and the others had got to. I found them setting up camp right on the edge of the valley so that we had a mountain as shelter.
