Chapter 283 The End
Chapter 283 The End
Amelia's POV
I felt dizzy as the pieces of the past suddenly fit together. "That makes sense... why I couldn't remember anything that night, why I woke up in a strange room..."
Luke nodded, "Yes. Their malice accidentally created our beginning."
Luke's face broke into a radiant smile. "Lucas is my biological son. Our son, in every possible way now."
Tears sprang to my eyes. "Are you sure?"
"Completely. The DNA test is conclusive." He pulled me into his arms. "I always thought it was some cosmic joke that I fell in love with a child who wasn't mine by blood but was so perfectly mine in spirit. Now I know why—he was always meant to be ours."
Luke held me tighter, his voice breaking slightly. "I'm so sorry, Amelia. You've carried this burden alone for so long. If I hadn't been so cold-hearted that morning, if I hadn't just assumed you were some woman who'd climbed into my bed for money... if I'd just talked to you instead of walking away... everything would have been different."
I pulled back just enough to look into his eyes, touching his face gently. "You were drugged too, Luke. You were set up just like I was. None of this was your fault."
His eyes searched mine, filled with regret and love in equal measure. "But you had to raise our son alone, struggle through everything by yourself..."
"And now we're together," I whispered. "That's all that matters now."
That evening, we sat Lucas down to explain everything. I watched nervously as Luke knelt before our son, explaining in simple terms about the DNA test and what it meant.
Lucas looked between us, his small face serious. Then he shrugged and said, "But we were already a family. I already call you Daddy."
Luke laughed, tears in his eyes as he pulled Lucas into a hug. "Yes, we were. And we always will be."
A sudden worry crossed my mind. "Wait, Luke, doesn't this mean Sophia is the only one who isn't our biological child? Will that make her feel sad?"
Lucas looked confused. "Why would that make her sad?"
I exchanged a glance with Luke before explaining gently, "Well, sweetie, sometimes people can be unkind about these things. Even though we don't care about biology—we love Sophia exactly the same as we love you and the baby—other people might try to make her feel different or less important."
"That's stupid," Lucas declared with the straightforward logic of a child. "She's my sister."
"You're right, it is stupid," Luke agreed, ruffling Lucas's hair. "But maybe we should keep this our secret for now, to protect Sophia's feelings. When you're both older, we can explain everything."
Lucas thought about it for a moment, then nodded solemnly. "Okay. I won't tell." His face suddenly brightened with childish determination. "And when I grow up, I'm going to marry Sophia. Then nobody will dare say anything bad about her. I love her!"
Luke chuckled, shaking his head in amusement. "Is that so? You little guy, what do you know about marriage?"
I couldn't help but smile at Lucas's innocent declaration of protection.
I smiled at Lucas's protective instinct. The boy might not understand much about marriage, but he definitely knew how to stand up for his sister.
We linked pinkies, all three of us, sealing our promise just as children do. "Pinky swear," we whispered together, then broke into laughter at our own silliness.
Seven months later, I lay in a hospital bed, exhausted but happier than I'd ever been, cradling our newborn daughter. Luke stood beside me, with Lucas peering curiously at his baby sister.
"She's all wrinkly and red," Lucas said, his nose wrinkling. "Like a little alien."
Luke chuckled in agreement. "She'll get cuter, buddy. All newborns look like that."
Sophia, standing on tiptoes to see better, immediately jumped to her sister's defense. "Don't you dare call my baby sister ugly!" she warned, her small fists clenched. "I'll punch both of you if you say that again!"
I laughed, my heart so full it felt like it might burst. Looking around at my husband and children—our perfect, beautiful family that had come together against all odds—I knew that whatever struggles we'd faced had led us exactly where we were meant to be.
As I gazed at the four faces I loved most in the world, I felt completely surrounded by happiness. Our journey had been complicated and painful at times, but the destination was worth every step.
