Chapter 277 I'm Happily Married to Amelia
Chapter 277 I'm Happily Married to Amelia
Luke's POV
His expression hardened slightly. "Look, I just don't think you and Amelia are a good match. Catherine is more your... level."
The calm anger that settled over me was far more powerful than any outburst. "I don't need your help arranging my love life," I said, each word precise and measured. "I love Amelia. That's all that matters."
I stood up, towering over the table. "You clearly have too much free time on your hands, Daniel. Tomorrow morning, pack your things and report to our Boston office. You and Emma can try long-distance for a while."
The color drained from his face. "Boston? You can't be serious—"
"Dead serious." I turned to Catherine, softening my tone slightly. "I'm sorry you were dragged into this. I'm happily married to Amelia, and I have no interest in changing that."
Amelia's POV
"Amelia, it seems your husband isn't as faithful as he appears to be."
My heart sank instantly. The photo attached to the text message was somewhat blurry, but that was definitely Luke, talking with a shapely brunette woman.
"How is this possible?" I whispered, tears welling up in my eyes. Luke told me he had to work late tonight handling company matters, but now he was in a bar having an intimate conversation with another woman? Who was she? What was their relationship?
Fighting back tears, I stared at the photo. The longer I looked, the more I began to doubt my judgment. There wasn't actually any intimate gesture in the picture—they were just standing rather close. I thought about all the things Luke had said to me, the look in his eyes, his promises. I couldn't believe he would do this to me.
I decided to wait for him to return and hear his explanation.
About half an hour later, I heard a car stop outside, followed by the sound of the door lock turning.
"Amelia? You're still up?" Luke's voice came from the entryway. I could smell a hint of alcohol on him.
I didn't answer, just sat there with my fingers clenched into fists.
Luke walked into the dining room and froze when he saw me and the table full of dishes. "You've been waiting all this time? I thought you'd gone to bed."
"Where were you tonight?" I raised my head, looking straight into his eyes, my voice noticeably trembling. "Were you really handling business?"
Luke's expression clearly changed. He paused, then sighed. "To be honest, after the meeting ended, Daniel said he broke up with his girlfriend, so I went to a bar with him. We ran into some college classmates there."
I couldn't hold back anymore, tears streaming down my face. "I got a text message, Luke. Someone took a picture of you with a beautiful woman at a bar. You looked very close." My voice broke, "Are you cheating on me?"
"What?" Luke frowned, quickly moving to my side. He knelt down on one knee and took my hands. "Amelia, listen to me. I'm not cheating! That was Catherine, my college classmate. We just happened to run into each other and chatted for a bit."
"Just a classmate? Really?" I asked between sobs. "Was she your ex-girlfriend?"
Luke shook his head, wiping away my tears with his thumb. "She did confess to me once, but I turned her down. Amelia, you're the only woman I've ever loved in my life, you know that."
I looked into his eyes, which were full of sincerity and concern. "I spent the whole afternoon preparing dinner for you, wanting to tell you a surprise." I sniffled, "And then you just..."
"What surprise did you want to give me?" Luke's voice softened, filled with curiosity.
But I was still hurt. I stomped my foot and turned toward the bedroom. "There's no surprise anymore!"
Luke quickly followed, embracing me from behind. "Darling, don't be like this. I'm really sorry for making you misunderstand. Tell me, what's the surprise?" His voice became almost playful as he kissed my neck.
"Luke..." I tried to break free, but his embrace was making me soften.
"It's my fault for making you worry." He said softly, turning me around to face him. "Please tell me? What surprise did you prepare?"
I took a deep breath and looked up into his eyes. "I'm pregnant, Luke. We're going to have our own baby."
Luke's expression froze for a moment, then transformed from shock to surprise to undisguised joy. "Really?" His voice trembled with excitement. "Amelia, is this true?"
I nodded, tears flowing again, but this time they were tears of happiness. "The doctor confirmed it this afternoon."
Luke suddenly lifted me up and spun me around, then carefully set me down. "I'm going to be a dad! Lucas is going to have a little brother or sister!" he shouted excitedly, then suddenly realized something and asked nervously, "I didn't hurt you, did I? Are you okay? Do you need to sit down and rest?"
Seeing him so flustered, I couldn't help but laugh. "I'm just pregnant, not sick, Luke."
"I know, but we have to be careful." He said seriously, then broke into a radiant smile again. "I'm so happy, Amelia. Thank you for giving me such a beautiful gift."
Luke gently stroked my belly, tears of joy glistening in his eyes. "Hey, little one, I'm your daddy." He said softly to my stomach. "I already love you, you know that?"
Watching Luke like this, all my hurt and suspicion vanished. He carefully drew me into his arms and kissed my forehead. "I love you, Amelia, more than you can imagine. I will never betray you and our family."
"I love you too, Luke," I nestled in his arms, feeling his strong heartbeat.
Luke's arms wrapped around me carefully, as though I might break. His lips pressed against my forehead in a tender kiss that made my heart swell. All the doubt, all the insecurity that had plagued me moments ago seemed to dissolve into nothing.
We stayed like that for a while, wrapped in each other's arms, the warmth of his body surrounding me like a protective shield. It was hard to believe how far we'd come, how much had changed between us.
After a moment, a thought crossed my mind. "Who do you think sent that text?" I asked, pulling back slightly to look into his eyes. "Could it be Daniel? He's never seemed to like me much." I paused before adding, "Or could that woman have sent it herself?"
