Chapter 211
The atmosphere in the police station was tense.
When Sebastian and Lisbeth walked into the station, they saw Elora. Seeing Sebastian and Lisbeth enter together, a flash of panic and hatred crossed her eyes.
The police began questioning Sebastian about Beau.
Sebastian replied calmly, "Yes, I went there and met with him. But are you really sure I beat him? Are you really sure it was me?"
Elora was taken aback. "After meeting you, he was covered in injuries, and he's terrified when he hears your name. If you didn't beat him, who did?"
Sebastian remained composed. "Then you should bring the person in question to confront me. And in what capacity are you standing here questioning me?"
Elora's face stiffened. "He's my assistant. I'm his boss. When my employee gets bullied, shouldn't I, as his boss, stand up for him?"
"Your fiancé is still hospitalized, yet you have the energy to stand up for someone else." Sebastian's smile didn't reach his eyes. "People who don't know better might think you two have quite the relationship."
"Don't talk nonsense!" Elora nervously looked around, only then remembering that Leopold hadn't come with her.
She immediately told the police, "Officer, this man deliberately hurt someone with the intent to murder. I want to press charges!"
The police naturally had to handle this officially.
Lisbeth frowned slightly. From their exchange, she'd pieced together the cause and effect. Taking advantage of a moment when no one was paying attention, she quietly asked Sebastian, "Do you have evidence that he hired someone to commit murder?"
Sebastian smiled and nodded. "Of course."
As his words fell, Noah arrived.
Seeing the folder in Noah's hands, Lisbeth understood.
"This is illegal!" Elora hadn't noticed anything unusual and was determined to send Sebastian to jail, still saying excitedly, "Officer, you must punish him severely! This is an abuse of private punishment!"
The police looked between Elora and Sebastian, somewhat conflicted.
This case was indeed complex.
Beau was indeed a criminal suspect, but Sebastian's behavior had also crossed the line.
Just as the situation reached an impasse, Lisbeth spoke. "Then can't I also press charges against Beau? He cut the brake line, causing our car accident. I think we should bring the other victim to the scene for this matter."
Elora's expression changed.
Wasn't Leopold the other victim? If he came here and learned that Beau had made things difficult for Lisbeth for her sake, even wanted Lisbeth dead...
Elora felt somewhat regretful for a moment. She'd come to the police station in a fit of anger, completely overlooking this matter.
Lisbeth looked at Elora. "If you really want to press charges, then let's sort out the entire cause and effect. Whoever made the mistake should bear responsibility. What do you think?"
Elora swallowed. To continue pressing charges now was definitely not an option, but if she didn't, she really couldn't swallow this grievance.
Truly caught between a rock and a hard place.
Sebastian said calmly, "I don't mind. I can call my legal team to help."
He had plenty of money, plenty of energy, plenty of lawyers.
A professional legal team, each one capable of arguing with anyone under the table. How could Elora compete with him?
Elora broke out in a cold sweat.
Until Beau was brought over. "I won't press charges. I won't press charges against anyone."
With these words, Elora's face immediately went cold. Though she was relieved inside, she couldn't save face, feeling as if she'd been betrayed. "I'm helping you out of kindness, and this is how you treat me?"
Beau still bore injuries on his face, but his attitude was particularly firm. "I'm sorry. I won't press charges. I won't press charges against anyone. These injuries are self-inflicted. I'm sorry."
The police frowned slightly. "You all need to decide what you want. This isn't a place for games."
Beau insisted, "I won't press charges."
Elora still wouldn't easily let go. "Even if we don't resolve this legally, you still have to compensate. You beat him up like this—you should pay for his medical treatment and emotional distress."
Beau was about to cry.
He was terrified of Sebastian now and didn't dare ask for a single cent. "No, I don't want money. I really don't."
His legs had been broken. He'd come in a wheelchair today. If this continued, he felt next time it would be his spine that got broken.
Lisbeth said coolly, "Elora, do you think I have a good temper, so you keep pushing your luck in front of me again and again?"
She glanced at Beau, her sharp gaze falling on Elora's face. "Don't forget, Beau did these things for you. Don't I have reason to infer that you revealed something to him? For instance, you hinted that as long as I disappeared, you and Leopold could go back to how things were? Otherwise, why would Beau take it upon himself to do these things for you?"
Elora was dumbfounded, not expecting this accusation to suddenly land on her. "What do you mean 'do for me'? This has nothing to do with me! How would I know he'd do these things on his own!"
Lisbeth's lips curved sarcastically. "But he said he has a crush on you and hopes you can be happy. He also said you were unhappy because of me. So can't I understand it this way—you deliberately appeared troubled in front of him?"
Elora glared fiercely at Beau. She had indeed said such things, but couldn't admit it now. "Don't talk nonsense. I didn't mean it that way. That was just complaining between friends. What he did has nothing to do with me."
"Inciting others, deliberate murder—none of this has anything to do with you?"
Just hearing these two charges was enough to make Elora's heart pound. Without thinking, she denied it. "Absolutely nothing!"
Lisbeth looked at Beau. "You see."
Beau's face was ashen. "Yes, this all has nothing to do with her. It was entirely my own decision."
Perhaps nothing was more painful than having one's beloved desperately distance herself.
"Mr. York." The investigating officer approached Sebastian. "Although Beau is a criminal, your behavior has indeed violated the law. We need to detain both of you."
Lisbeth's heart clenched. "Since neither party intends to pursue this, can't we settle this privately?"
Before the police could respond, Sebastian spoke very calmly. "I understand. You go back first. I'll be back soon after handling this."
He comforted Lisbeth, then turned to leave with the police.
His back remained broad. Even in such an awkward situation, he showed no sign of dejection, carrying himself with composure.
Lisbeth suddenly spoke. "Wait."
Everyone looked at her.
Lisbeth walked up to Sebastian, looked into his eyes, and said word by word, "Sebastian, this happened because of me. You were protecting me. Whatever happens next, I'll be with you. Because..."
Her voice wasn't loud, but in the quiet police station, it was particularly clear. "Because I like you."
Sebastian froze.
Lisbeth said softly, "I'll wait for you to come back."
Sebastian's body stiffened for a moment. Then, coming to his senses, he reached out and hugged her tightly, his voice carrying suppressed hoarseness. "Wait for me."
Countless words gathered at his lips, but ultimately only this phrase remained.
Lisbeth walked out of the police station with a sense of disorientation. Ralph got out of the car. In fact, he'd been there for a while, waiting outside the whole time. "Don't worry. He'll be fine."
Of course, Lisbeth trusted Sebastian, but until she saw him safely emerge, her heart wouldn't settle.
She didn't leave, waiting outside the police station.
Ralph didn't leave either, waiting with her.
After about an hour, Sebastian finally came out of the station. Seeing Lisbeth, his face immediately lit up with a smile. "Don't worry. I'm fine now."
Lisbeth was still concerned. "What did they say to you inside?"
"They just asked about what happened, then asked if both parties were willing to reconcile and settle privately. After confirming neither of us would pursue charges, they let us go."
After all, the car accident Beau had arranged hadn't resulted in any deaths—it could only be considered attempted murder. If the parties involved didn't pursue it, the police wouldn't forcibly demand a thorough investigation.
"That's good." Lisbeth breathed a sigh of relief.
Ralph said, "You could completely pursue this matter, investigate thoroughly, and teach him a lesson so he never dares touch you again."
But Lisbeth shook her head. "As long as we know who did it, that's enough. As for the rest, let it go. She won't benefit anyway."
Of course, this matter wouldn't end like this, but right now, they could only deal with Beau.
She looked at Sebastian, narrowing her eyes. "But you—acting impulsively like that. When we get back, I need to have a good talk with you."
