Chapter 43 Panic

Chapter 43 Panic
NANCY’S POV

I stirred awake really slowly, giving my body time to adjust to the fact that I was awake.

When I finally came to, for a few seconds, I couldn't move. Not because I didn't want to, but because my body was heavy and sore.

It felt like I had gone through a round of battering, and the blanket on my body felt too heavy.

I grabbed it with my hand and swung it off my body first, then opened my eyes to an unfamiliar ceiling.

For a second, I didn't know where I was, and then it all came rushing back-The memories of the night before.

Shocked, I say upright immediately, snapping my gaze to my left, only to find it empty.

Jaxon was gone.

"What..." I breathed out unevenly, eyes darting across the room as if that would somehow make him appear from thin air.

"Jaxon..." I called out softly, then paused to assess myself in shock again, realizing that I was still acting based on my subconscious.

I'd listened to him last night, when he asked that I call Jaxon while he fucked the living daylight out of me, but it came as a surprise to me now that my body still remembered to call him that.

It was only after saying it now, with full awareness, that I realized how awkward it really was.

I corrected myself immediately and called out in the same soft tone, "Mr Landon."

My heart began to race, and I hurriedly got out of bed, ignoring the pain between my thighs, then paused once more when I realised I was fully clothed.

I glanced down at my pairing of shorts and a tank top, the exact one I had on last night, wondering if he had been the one to change me.

He had to be, because I couldn't recollect putting on my clothes last night.

Heat flooded my face even more when I recalled that he had seen me naked.

God, this was embarrassing.

How was I even going to face him?

It took a couple of minutes, but I realized I didn't have to because he wasn't here.

I'd searched the bathroom and even the closet, but Mr Landon was nowhere to be found.

"What the hell..." I muttered under my breath as I stepped out of his closet, wondering where he had gone and why he hadn't woken or asked me to return to my room.

As soon as that thought popped into my mind, another did.

My heart dropped to the pits of my stomach.

Daina.

I went into full-blown panic mode in an instant, rushing back into the room so fast I almost tripped.

"My phone, where's my phone?" I called out in panic, while scrambling around the room for my phone, only to recollect that I had left it back in my room.

That only further served to heighten my panic because now, I couldn't tell what time it was or how long I had been here for.

My eyes roved quickly again, and then, I spotted a small digital clock on the bedside table.

I made my way to it hastily and picked it up, turning it over to check the time.

"Holy shit!" I gasped when I saw what time it was.

It wasn't too late in the morning, but judging by my current situation and the time Diana usually woke up, it was late.

My mind spiraled instantly, spinning with all the 'what if' questions that swarmed me.

What if Diana woke up earlier?

What if she'd been to my room and couldn't find me?

The more those questions popped into my mind, the more worried I became. In a rush, I began to walk around the room, tidying up everything in sight while also checking to see if there were no belonging if mine in there.

It would be far from amusing if I accidentally left something behind and Diana found it.

"Calm down, Nancy," I said to myself as I did so, but it did nothing to alleviate my fear.

When I was done, I hastened to the door, pausing briefly to listen for any sounds beyond it.

Sure that no one was out there, I opened it up slowly, then poked my head out.

'It is better to be safe than sorry,' I thought to myself as I crept into the hallway, looking over my shoulder at intervals.

Every step felt louder than it should have, and even my breathing seemed too loud.

By the time I made it back to my room, my heart was in my throat.

When I closed the door behind me, I let out the deepest sigh of relief I had ever managed in my life.

"Whew, I made it."

The smile on my face disappeared quickly enough.

What the heck was I even happy about?

Like a dam that had broken, guilt rushed into my heart instantly.

"Oh God...Nancy..." I groaned, palming my face with my palm.

After creeping through the hall like a sneaky rat, I didn't have the right to be happy or relieved. Now, it was as clear as daylight that I was nothing but a whore who didn't hesitate to fuck her best friend's father.

My mood plummeted immediately, although there wasn't much to it before.

I pushed myself off the door, intent on walking towards my bed, when a knock sounded behind me.

Every part of my body froze.

"Nancy." Diana's voice reached me from outside.

"Are you up?"

The beat of my heart quickened, and I almost thought I would have a heart attack.

"Yeah, I am... I'm... I'm coming," I swallowed hard, forcing myself to move.

"Hold on," I called out when I got to the door, hastily running my hand through my hair, hoping it wouldn't be obvious that I had gotten it dishevelled while being fucked.

Sucking in a deep breath, I grabbed the handle and pulled the door open.

"Hi," I muttered breathlessly, a fake smile materializing on my face.

"Hi...?" Diana repeated, staring at me strangely.

"Are you okay?"

"Yes, yes, I am," I replied quickly, too quickly, and it only made her look at me in an even stranger way.

I gestured vaguely, "I was in the bathroom when you knocked."

"Oh."

Diana didn't say anything else and just kept staring at me, making me feel exposed.

"You should come in," I said, then winced at how high-pitched my tone was.

I was supposed to act normal, but here I was doing the opposite.

Clearing my throat loudly, I tried to restrain my nerves and make myself appear even more normal.

Diana stared judgmentally at me for a couple of seconds, then stepped in.

She headed towards my bed while I heaved a small sigh of relief, then closed the door behind me.

She sat on my bed and then waited for me to walk up to her. When I reached her, her gaze shifted from my face to my neck, then paused there.

Her eyes narrowed, and then she shifted them back to my line of sight, pointing, "What's that on your neck?"
