Chapter 23
I don’t know how long I stayed there, chained to the cold hard floor. Someone has come in to check on me a few times, although there isn’t much I can do since they have my hands chained tightly behind my back. I could feel my wolf twitch, fighting to get out and save us, but I knew we were outnumbered. We had no combat training, or training of any kind really. We would just make it harder to escape right now. If I was going to escape on my own, it needed to be perfectly timed, that means I have to gather as much information as I can. But I can only hope that Jackson would be able to find me sooner than that. With my vocal cords removed even in my wolf form I can’t call for help if things go wrong.
After what could have been a few minutes though it felt like hours, Jillian came to the room. She walked in wearing a flowing ball gown, like she’d rehearsed this moment over and over again. Each step seemed to be perfectly timed as she made her way to a chair on the other side of the room. She sat elegantly in one fluid motion before locking eyes with me. Her makeup was done along with her hair, as if she were a bride about to walk down the aisle. She would have looked absolutely stunning, if it weren’t for the triumphant look in her eyes.
“Hello little miss silent wolf, have you been enjoying your stay?” She smirked.
A thick silence filled the space between us only for a moment before her shrill laugh replaced it.
“Oh my, I’m sorry. I just couldn’t help myself.”
I simply rolled my eyes, as her laughter died down. After years of dealing with the assholes at my school, nothing she could call me, nor any joke she could make at my expense, would have any effect on me.
“Leo! Come and give our guest some length on her shackles.”
A man came in at her command. He wore jeans and a t-shirt but even in these casual clothes he looked intimidating. His muscles bulged uncomfortably with each movement, and he was covered with deep scars. Some looked old while others were still fresh. From his scent I could tell he’d been a rogue for an unknown amount of years. As he walked towards me I made sure to maintain eye contact with Jillian and show her I was unafraid. I tried to show her that nothing she could do would phase me, that I was stronger than she gave me credit for. Soon I felt the short chain I was attached to go slack, allowing me to bring my hands forward.
“You’re probably wondering why I’m so dressed up, right?” She stood and spun to show her dress.
“Why should I care how you’re dressed?” The chains clacked together with each movement of my hands.
“Why? Well because it’s a very important day.”
“And what day would that be?”
She let the facade fall as she made her way to me and leaned down so we sat face to face.
“Because today is the day I become the Luna that will rule by Jackson’s side.”
I extended my nails into claws and swung them at Jillian’s face. I immediately smelt blood as she backed away from me holding her cheek.
“YOU BITCH!” She screeched and next thing I knew I was pinned underneath her as she slashed and scratched whatever part of me her hands came into contact with first.
Suddenly Leo was pulling her off of me, telling her she’s ruining her makeup and her dress.
“Jackson would never allow you to be Luna!” I signed frantically before Leo could tighten my chains again.
“He will, if he wants you alive.” She growled through clenched teeth before storming out of the room taking Leo with her.
