Chapter 45
Callum's POV
Damon and his friend approached the table. "Prince Damon, we had seats put at our table. Feel free to grab a seat and eat." "Why did you not wait for us?" My hands clenched. Daisy didn't miss it. She put her small hands over mine. "Prince Damon, we eat at the same time every day, and we didn't want our pack to have to wait. We try to do what is best for the pack first. And well, after the attacks today, we know food would comfort the pack. So, I apologize, but we are never late serving dinner. Especially when everyone has had a rough day." Daisy said it calmly and soothingly.
It calmed Damon down, and he took his seat. But instead of sitting next to me, Damon pulled the chair to sit next to Daisy. Daisy kept her hand on mine. She was using the mate bond to keep me calm. Damon, of course, began to talk. "So, does your pack get a lot of rogues?" "No," I said, not giving an explanation. Daisy changed the subject. She was better with people than me. "So, Prince Damon, tell me about the Royal pack."
"Well, as you know, my father is king. My mother is a queen, so we have a king and queen instead of an Alpha and Luna. Then the pack runs like any other." "I heard that the royals can half shift. Is that just with your family like all the cousins, or is it a direct line?" I didn't know much about this. I knew they were chosen to be royals because of this gift, showing they were blessed more than others. But I didn't know exactly who could partially shift. I listened to him. "So, no, not all of us can partially shift. My father can, and my mother can't, as she was not born a Royal. My brother and I can, but it is not always the case. My grandfather could, but not my uncle or my aunt. It is only a direct line; not everyone can do it in the family line. Only the strong ones can carry the trait."
"So maybe your kids won't be able to?" "It could be. But I am strong. When I do have pups, I expect they will be strong and carry the trait." "Enough about that. Tell me, Daisy, what is there to know about you." "Nothing much to know." "I find that hard to believe. I mean, your wolf is impressive." "Summer is wonderful." She responded. "What pack do you come from." I didn't want him to know this. He would have more information on her if he reached out to her old alpha. But Daisy could not refuse to answer him. "I come from the Summit Pack." "Interesting, and how did you meet Callum. Was it a matting ball?" "No, he was visiting, and we just sort of found each other."
Damon looked at me. "Why were you visiting Summit Pack?" "I wanted to make an alliance." "Interesting. I mean, you already have so many packs under you. Why would you want more? Then again, maybe it is good for once you didn't just attack them." He was trying to get information. But I had gone to Summit Pack not to take over; I just wanted to be more friendly with them. We had been taking so much land I wanted to make sure they didn't feel threatened, as I had no intention of taking them over. They were a small pack, and honestly, they stuck to themselves.
They chose not to interact with other packs. The only time I had seen them was at matting balls and one time when I went to the Royals. They were there, as well as several other Alphas. I didn't know why the royals had sent for other alphas. But I knew they wanted to get a read on me as I was growing my area fast. "Do you like Blood Paw Pack better than Summit Pack?" "Yes, I do," she said confidently. The rest of dinner went by rather slowly. Damon asked a bunch of mundane questions. Nothing too important. Then he said suddenly. "So, you two seem to like each other a lot. I mean, I heard you two after the rogue attacks. Do you get off on the violence? Is that a turn-on for you?" He had just asked Daisy that.
Furious, I turned to face him and was ready to kill. But she was quick. "What I choose to do with my mate is none of your business." "Well, I mean, I am not the only one who heard you, so I don't think it is not my business considering that I had to hear it." "This is our home. You are a guest in it. If you hear me and Callum that it is not really your business, we do what we like in our home. It is not your place to comment on our sex life. We offered you another place to stay, but you insisted on staying here with us, so you should expect this." It was time for me to comfort her. I knew she would be fighting with Summer to get out. I was having a hard enough time getting control of Lorde.
Damon just stared at her. But Daisy was upset. She stood up. "Callum, I will meet you in our room briefly." I mind-linked her. "Where are you going?" "To get some ice cream. I will eat it in the kitchen. Then when I think that asshole prince has gone to bed, I will come up." I nodded at her and watched her leave the dining room. Damon looked at me. "Your Luna seems to be sensitive." "Damon, watch yourself with her. I don't take kindly to people upsetting her." "It is Prince Damon to you. Don't you forget yourself, Callum. You are alive because my family says you can be."
"Kill him. Kill him." Lorde was shouting in my head. "No, we need to keep calm." He was sulking. I remained quiet until dinner was over. I exited the table and headed to Daisy's and my room. I didn't want to spend any more time with Damon. People were still eating, but I didn't want to wait for everyone to clear out. I just wanted to see my mate and make sure she was okay. She had been mad that someone like Damon asked her if violence got her hot. I agree it was completely inappropriate. The only ones we let comment on our sex life were our friends, and it was mostly joking. Though the pack could hear us, they never said anything directly to us out of respect, but he had been disrespectful by addressing it.
