The Power of a Gifted Hybrid

The Power of a Gifted Hybrid
Chapter 174: The Power of a Gifted Hybrid

The group moving with Lena finally reached the territory entrance at the same time the howls of multiple wolves echoed through the forest.

The wide land was also covered in blood as it was where the crawlers had first begun their attacks.

As the soldiers and Vitto returned to the battle, Reah positioned the machine at the center of the path, and connected the tubes to a small battery that she carried with her to power the machine, despite its size, the energy in that box was enough to power an entire town, but it was unstable since she hadn't perfected it.

The crawlers arrived faster than they expected, with Cain's massive wolf leading and Andrew quick form, slowing down the ones that got ahead of the group.

However, when Reah drew Lena's blood and inserted it into the machine, the device only let out a small white gas that barely did anything.

She frowned, “I told you it wasn't going to be enough."

Lena said nothing, she looked at Cain who was still fighting, his focus trained on the crawlers and determined to buy them time, and to Andrew and Ashley still fighting earnestly.

Lena looked at Reah and smiled, "Would it work if I directly used my energy?”

Reah hesitated but then she nodded, "I don't know what you're trying but…"

Lena's smile turned warm, “It's worth the risk, I should have enough energy to help turn them back."

“Lena… once it starts, it won’t stop until the energy is spent. It could kill you.”

“I know, but a machine as small as this wouldn't kill me, it's just energy, it's not like it's crushing my body,” she said and stepped into the machine casually.

Reah’s expression turned sad, “You just became a mother, this risk is unnecessary.”

“And I intend to stay one.” Lena looked toward the path where Cain fought. “Tell him… tell him I’m sorry and that I'll make it up to him once I've healed enough.”

Reah nodded, she knew better than anyone what that meant, but she quietly turned on the machine and stepped back.

A bright golden light suddenly came the moment Lena started transferring her energy to the machine.

She gasped at the shock of the first pull, but she barely felt anything. Golden light poured from her skin, the same light from her vision, then she looked up at the moon smiling despite the feeling of her energy being drained rapidly.

All she had to do was make sure the vision played out well, and then nothing about the first vision would happen and Cain would be safe.

She thought and looked at the path Cain was still fighting, totally unaware.

A white gas followed suit, spreading out quickly as well as the golden light. They both swallowed up everything within range, including Reah, and everyone else, but it had no effect on them.

However, the crawlers all froze, slowly getting engulfed by the golden light, blinding every person.

Then, miraculously, their forms began to shrink and their flesh dried and peeled away as if getting burnt.

The rogues as well were affected by the light and gas, they dropped to their knees, growling and screaming in agony as their bodies shrunk.

Cain back to his human form saw the golden light wave and white gas over towards his angle. He turned just in time to Lena inside the machine as her entire body was also swallowed in the golden light.

His eyes widened, “Lena!" He shouted before he knew it and was already sprinting towards the machine.

However, before he could close the distance, an energy wave exploded from the machine knocking everything in its path down, including Cain.

That didn't do anything to him. He quickly rose back up to his feet and was running as fast as he could to the machine, the light was already fading.

Reah reached the machine first since she was the closest and the wave didn't really hit her. She broke the panel open and opened her arms when Lena collapsed weakly against her.

She helped Lena to the ground and placed her head on her thigh, but Cain took Lena away from Reah trembling.

“Hey…” he called gently. "Lena open your eyes,” he said, trying his best to control his emotions but the ache in his heart and bile forming in his throat only made it worse. "Lena,” his voice shook.

Surprisingly her eyes opened, but her golden eyes were now pale, like the rest of her skin.

Lena still managed to smile. “Did I do it?" She asked weakly and Cain smiled through his turmoil.

"Yes you did, everyone is fine now.”

Lena leaned close to his chest and exhaled, “That's good," she looked at Reah as well and smiled. “See…I'm fine."

Reah smiled as well, and tears of relief fell from her eyes. Cain helped Lena stand with Reah's help.

However, after a few steps, Lena lost her balance and collapsed, but Cain caught her before she could hit the ground.

He pulled her to his chest, his heart racing and breathing slowed. “Lena…” he rubbed her face gently and watched her eyes slowly open. "What's wrong?”

Lena shook her head, “Nothing, I'm…. just a little….tired.”

Tears fell from Cain’s eyes onto her face, already having an idea of what was going to happen. “Don’t do this, please. Our baby is waiting for you.”

She smiled faintly, eyes already clouding. “I already did… the hardest part is why are you crying him," she raised her hand to his face and wiped his tears away. "I'm fine, and stop crying Andrew is going to make fun of you.”

Cain chuckled through his tears, but the second Lena's hands dropped from her face and her smile fell, his heart sank.

Reah instinctively went on her knees and pressed her fingers to Lena's neck.

Nothing.

She tried again, hoping and praying for a single pulse, yet there was still nothing.

Reah bowed her head, shoulders shaking as she sobbed silently.

Cain rocked Lena gently, his face buried in her hair. A loud, hoarse broken sound tore from his throat, sounding like a howl and a sob.

Around them the former Crawlers groaned as they slowly woke in their human forms. The rogues who survived stared in stunned silence and the werewolves and humans still strong conscious only watched the Lycan break apart as he held the lifeless body of his beloved mate

Above them, the blood red moon looked down at the two races, but its rays were particularly focused on the spot Lyra was.

The new born baby opened his eyes and stirred awake, from behind his innocent eyes he could see two women right in front of him.

Lena and Yelena, Lena had a sad smile on her face, and tears streaming from her face.

“I didn't think you'd join me this early," Yelena said, with her arms crossed as she stared, her eyes filled with fascination at the small child that clearly saw them.

Lena shrugged, “I didn't expect it to, until the visions became clearer and after what you told me that day, I knew I had to do something about this or risk losing Cain."

Yelena nodded. She was the stranger from months ago that had told Lena about her visions and what to do about it.

Although that was a really long time, she couldn't help but laugh at the fact Lena had no idea she was pregnant then.

“It's a pity Cain can't see you," Yelena finally said in a soft tone and Lena only nodded.

"It's alright, I had a rough idea this was going to happen,” her expression turned softer as she looked at her baby. "I left something for them.”

She waved at her baby for the very last time before fading away completely with Yelena.

Leaving the little child, who had no idea why his mother was fading away and whether she was going to return.

The End.
