Chapter 34 Thirty-four
“Baby, you are awake.”
He smiled at Sophia, who was now sitting on the center console.
“Yes,”
She bobbed her head.
“I am scared, Mummy.”
Oh mine,
I cup her face in my palms and give her a broad, reassuring smile.
“It's fine, baby, mummy is here to protect you.”
She nodded her head, her lips twitching.
“They won't come after you again, okay?”
Noah gently stroked her hair.
And throughout the ride to his house, I sat muted in the car, like someone who has lost her voice.
Only he and Sophia were talking, giggling, and laughing.
All that was in my head was how to capture those serial killers and have them wiped off the earth.
To be honest, I didn't know their arrival would be like this.
I thought they would…
“We are here,”
Noah announced, breaking me out of my thoughts.
As we stepped out of the car, my eyes widened in astonishment as I took in the grandeur of the mansion.
The sleek modern Structure appeared to glimmer in the crescent light, and the beautifully trimmed flowers of different varieties spread out all over the place.
A spectacular water fountain stood in the middle of the mansion, its gentle waters creating a delicate melody.
“Wow,”
I breathed, my voice slightly above a whisper,
This is incredible.
Even though I know he is super wealthy, I never thought his house would be this luxurious.
As I followed him into the mansion, I couldn't help but feel a mix of wonder and curiosity.
How on earth was he able to craft this place?
Noah must have spent a fortune on this house.
The interior is just as breathtaking as the exterior, with high ceilings, luxurious furniture, and modern art pieces that seemed to pop against the neutral tones.
I felt a little out of place, but Noah’s warm voice broke me out of my thoughts.
“Make yourself at home,”
He said, leading us to the stairs.
“You guys can spend the night here,”
He said, after stopping in front of a room.
Then he put on a mischievous smile, stepped closer to me, and whispered into my ear.
“But if you need comfort to forget about your worries, my room is over there.”
What da!
I glared at him coldly, and he stepped away, giggling.
What nonsense!
This dude is getting on my nerves seriously,
“Are you hungry?”
He asked Sophia who was standing beside me, scratching her eyes.
“No,”
She shook her head, yawning.
“If you…”
“Good night!”
I cut him short, entered the room with Sophia, and shut the door on his face.
“Wow!”
Sophia exclaimed, eyes widening in amazement.
When I turned around, my jaw dropped too.
The room is just as beautiful as the mansion is.
And surprisingly, it is decorated in all pink and white colors, just like a little girl’s room.
Geez!
The color is blinding my eyes,
I hate everything in light colors,
Nevertheless, this is extraordinary, and Sophia seems to like it.
She jumped on the large bed covered in a pink bedspread and giggled excitedly.
“Mummy? This is so soft,”
Uhn?
Is it softer than the bed we have at home?
Knock! Knock! Knock!
A soft paddle came on the door.
Hope it isn't Noah,
I muttered as I headed to the door.
“What?”
I frowned at him after opening the door.
“What do you and Sophia need? I am sending someone to go bring Nala here.”
Nala?
Why would he bring her here?
She is safe where she is.
“Leave Nala alone,”
I said, trying to close the door, but he quickly grabbed the handle.
“Nala isn't safe, you know. Those people might go to your house to do what they intended to do to you earlier on. And if they get a hold of Nala, they will… You know,”
That's true.
But Nala isn't at home, she has gone to see her sister in the next town.
“Leave her alone, that is not your concern.”
He gasps.
“Do you mean you don't care about her?”
Pfft.
“Yes.”
I answered, smiling.
“What kind of a…,”
He exhaled.
“Lizzy?”
“No, continue what you wanted to say,”
I folded my arms below my chest.
“And how many times would I tell you to stop calling my name that way? It is either you call me Detective Lizzy, or stop calling my name.”
“But I love you,”
Arrggh
“Stop that nonsense!”
I snapped at him and slammed the door in his face.
Can't he stop this already?
Gosh!
I don't love him,
And I am not interested in any relationship.
“Mummy?”
Sophia called as soon as I slammed the door.
“Why do you get upset with Noah?”
She pouted her lips.
“He is a nice guy, and he also saved us.”
Wonderful!
I am sure this is what Noah wants,
To make my daughter turn against me.
But that won't happen,
I will deal with him.
“Go to sleep.”
I waved my hand and went inside the bathroom.
I took a warm shower, and when I stepped out, I remembered I had nothing to wear to bed.
Sleeping in a wet towel would give me a fever,
And I can't wear my dress to bed, it smells of sweat and gunpowder.
Let's see,
I turned towards the closet, opened it and I was amazed by what I saw.
Ladies’ dresses all over the place,
What on earth is Noah doing with all these?
Does he have a wife and a kid?
There are dresses for a kid Sophia’s age in there too.
Hmmm
Something is fishy.
At 5am the next morning, I woke up, carried Sophia who was still sleeping, and left the house without letting Noah know.
He would only stop me from returning to my place because he thinks those guys would follow me down to my house.
But I am not scared of them,
None of them will be able to enter the house, and no bullet can penetrate the doors, windows, or the wall.
I got into the cab that I had booked earlier and left.
At home, there was an envelope neatly stacked in the pouch,
And there was a thunderbolt sign designed on the cover which indicates where it came from.
I picked it up, opened it and the content in it made me laugh so hard that it woke Sophia up.
