Chapter 20 Twenty
“What is happening here?”
He started sweating profusely as if he were in a sauna.
“Who are these people? What are they doing here?”
He started trembling, pointing at them.
“Calm down, Mr. Benedict, they are here under my command.”
He veered towards me, his eyes rolling from one direction to the other confusingly.
“Do you want to see something fun?”
I asked him,
And before he could say yes or no,
The officer with me pushed him forward and we passed through the gate.
“Detective Lizzy,”
They chorused, standing at attention.
“They are here.”
Wonderful!
“Good job.”
I gave them a thumbs up and went inside the living room.
Kneeling on the floor were six men in black overalls, their faces were all covered with assassin masks, and in front of them were six black hefty bags.
One of the officers unzipped the bags, and they were all filled with a bunch of dollars.
“What!”
Mr. Benedict exclaimed,
He swung his hands over his head, stepping back in shock.
“Who are these, Detective Lizzy? And what are they doing in my house?”
His house?
Pfft.
“Unmask them.”
I ordered, and the masks were removed from their faces.
Among them is the driver whom I interrogated earlier.
My guess was correct.
The way he was glancing at Benedict in my office indicated something was wrong.
“Mr. Benedict Desmond, you are under arrest for stealing these,”
I pointed at the bags.
“And for kidnapping your daughter.”
“What!”
He exclaimed shockingly.
“I have no hand in this, Detective Lizzy, please believe me.”
He cried out.
“Take them back to the headquarters.”
I ordered and the thieves were bundled in the same trunk with Benedict.
At the headquarters, I made sure Cassie was brought to the interrogation room so she would know the kind of person she called her husband.
“When Cassie proposed marriage to you two years ago, you had the chance to turn her down, but because you were blinded by greediness, you decided to accept the marriage.
The marriage was based on a contract which was supposed to have expired six months after your wedding,
But as an expert, you decided to be smart by making Cassie fall in love with you.
You succeeded, and then she got pregnant and gave birth to Zara.
Unfortunately, Cassie stopped giving you access to her bank cards, and then you came up with a plan to kidnap your daughter,
That way, Cassie would give the ransom to the kidnappers and the kid would be released.
So you decided to play innocent by reporting the case here as Cassie had started suspecting you.
And when you realized that you had brought yourself to where your secret would be disclosed, you decided to steal from her, then run away.
Unknown to you, the phone calls you were making to the thief you hired, and the kidnappers were all recorded by the communication team under my command.
At the parking lot, you were telling them to be fast as we were heading to the mansion, and you also tried to delay us on the way so we wouldn't bump into them.
That was how I sent over the troops of officers to the mansion to arrest them.
Mr. Benedict, what do you have to say about this?”
He compressed his eyes, lowered his head, and exhaled deeply.
“Do you blame me for doing all that, Detective Lizzy? Cassie promised me heaven and earth before the marriage.
She said she would give me all that I ever needed, and she would build me a company.
Meanwhile, she didn't do any of that.
I became her errand boy, driver, and personal assistant.”
“Whose fault is it?”
I cut him short.
“Did Cassie force you to sign the marriage contract? You should have turned it down, you know.”
“I needed money!”
He burst into tears.
“So I had no choice but to say yes to her offer.”
What a greedy fellow.
“But my investigation shows that you were doing well in your workplace before she came into your life.
You were a team leader in the company you worked with, and your salary was 3 thousand dollars monthly.”
He raised a brow.
“How did…”
He lowered his head in shame.
“Alright, there is no need to lie. I was doing well, but no one can turn down the offer of a rich spoiled brat.
I never loved her,
I only did what I did to grab a fortune from her.
I didn't know she knew what she was doing,”
“You never loved me?”
Cassie pointed to her chest.
“You are a betrayal, Benedict, and I swear, you must be locked in prison!”
“Save your tears, Cassie, because you haven't started yet.”
She glared at me.
“What do you mean, bitch!”
Whoa!
“Zara is dead.”
She froze for a few seconds, got up from the chair, and walked towards me.
“What did you say?”
She asked in a trembling voice.
“Zara’s father killed her.”
She exhaled and fell on the floor.
“Who is there? Come take her away.”
After she was taken away,
I turned to Benedict whose face had now turned to an evil smirk.
“Why did you kill her?”
He scoffed.
“Zara heard my voice when I was speaking to the abductors, and she demanded to see me. Guess what that little brat said when I went there?
I will tell Mummy it was you who kidnapped me, and Mummy will send you packing.
Can you believe it?”
He laughed evilly.
“Detective Lizzy, I don't regret what I did. Even if she hadn't heard my voice or seen me, I had made up my mind to kill her after receiving the ransom from Cassie. Then I would divorce her and leave.”
Tsk tsk tsk
I am not surprised.
“Do you know you will be sentenced to death?”
He smirked.
“Yes, and I am willing to go. There is nothing in this life except pain. I am happy that there isn't anyone who will be referred to as my kid when I am no more. Phhhh, it feels good.”
He laughed maniacally.
After Benedict was hanged to death by the court, Cassie sold her properties in this city and relocated to another place.
She didn't even come to say thank you,
Hahahaha,
I don't even need that.
Maybe if she had come, she would have insulted me and called me names.
And two months later, the news about her marriage filled the entire media.
Cassie will never learn from her lesson.
Spoilt brat.
