Against Those Who Trust Me

Against Those Who Trust Me
\[Serenity’s POV\]

It’s like I’m on autopilot as I move, following Ellie out of the room and in the direction that I’m certain my allies are in and when I hear the growls and the sound of struggle, I try desperately to regain control olf myself.

However, it is useless.

There isn’t even the slightest bit of control left in me and even Mahogany seems unable to take control of our body like she would in the past.

‘What do we do?’ She asks as we grow closer.

‘I don’t know.’

No matter how much I fought, I couldn’t stop my body from moving forward, following Ellie like she was my damn master.

When I broke free of her hold, I would make sure to rip her to shreds for using my grandmother’s image to trick me.

But is she the only one to blame?

This single thoughts hits as I hear a growl rip through the air and as we round the corner, I see Uncle William and his men standing there.

They are in their wolf form, but I would recognize him anywhere because he looks so similar to my own father.

Dad.

Instantly, I find myself trying to extend my senses to search for the man in question because I was certain that he was somewhere around here, but it doesn’t work.

Not only did Ellie have control of my body, but she also had control of my abilities and when my gaze meets Uncle William’s I know that he can tell that something is wrong.

He stares at me with a look of confusion as Ellie turns her gaze to mine and when our eyes meet, she smirks.

“Go ahead and shift,” she tells me and despite not wanting to, it happens and when I’m in my wolf form a growl rips from my throat. “Attack.”

At her words, I’m moving, surging forward and when my body collides with Uncle William’s, I can’t stop my claws and teeth from trying to shred at his skin.

Please. I beg. Please just take me down.

If he could at least knock me out then I wouldn’t be a threat to him, but since I am the daughter of two alphas I knew that it would take more than just a few blows to take me down.

Now, despite what I want, I continue to fight and as I do, so does everyone around us and before long the corridor is filled with the sounds of struggle, but I can’t focus on what is going on around me, because Uncle William is fighting me with all his might.

Together, we attack and pull back, each of us landing blow for blow and when I manage to rip into Uncle William’s shoulder and his blood erupts in my mouth, I feel sick.

No. I hiss inwardly, hating every second of this. Stop it!

Once again, I start fighting with my own body, begging and pleading with it to stop attacking the wolf in front of me, but each time I try to stop, I find once again that I am utterly and hopelessly left at Ellie’s mercy.

\[Maverick’s POV\]

I move slowly, my senses on alert as the team behind me follows.

We’ve managed to infiltrate Ezekial’s packhouse, but so far we haven’t run into anyone which is strange in and of itself.

I was certain that the enemy was probably nearby, but they were intentionally luring us in and because of that, I try to pay closer attention, but when a rumble of growls reach us, I know that we have managed to reach where they want us.

‘Stay alert,’ I murmur through mindlink. ‘The enemy is close.’

At my words, I hear rumbles of agreement and when I’m certain that my group is ready for whatever comes, we start moving again.

Slowly, we move forward, toward a bend in the corridor we are in and when we go around it there is a group of warriors and wolves waiting for us.

The wolves bear their teeth and drool drips from their jaws, but that isn’t the thing that alarms me.

Instead, it is the warriors who hold guns that leave me on edge because for some reason I can smell hints of Serenity’s blood.

What is this? I wonder, sniffing the air. Why am I smelling her blood?

As this thought comes to me, one of the warriors aims his gun at one of my men and when he fires a strange looking vial filled with a red liquid bursts from it and when it connects with my man’s body and dispenses, I watch with wide eyes as he slowly starts to shift back to human.

Fuck.

So, those guns were filled with bullets that possessed Serenity’s blood and that was the reason I was smelling it.

‘DON’T LET THEM SHOOT YOU!’ I roar at my men and then focus on the enemy as they start to move. ‘DON’T LET THEM WIN!’

Finished speaking, I surge forward, crashing into the wolf closest to me and then I’m fighting, biting, clawing, tearing at skin while staying alert of those around me.

I know the warriors are nearby. I know that they will certainly manage to shoot a few more of my men, but as long as we continued fighting that was the thing that mattered the most.

Keeping this thought in mind, I finish off the wolf that I’m fighting and then I turn to one of the warriors just as he points his gun at me.

Unwilling to let him get what he wants, I move, dodging a bullet and then I’m slamming into the warrior and taking him out.

Once I’m certain that he will no longer be a threat, I move onto the next, but he reaches for his hip and when he does, he produces a dagger.

I quickly move out of the way of his attack and then we square off as he attempts to reposition his gun, but when he does, I move to attack causing him to use his dagger again.

“Fucking wolf.” He growls, making it clear that he must be human. “Always causing trouble and getting in the way.”

It’s odd to say the least, because there shouldn’t be a reason for a human to even be involved in this, but here one was and now that I understood what he was, I was certain that the others that were with him were probably humans as well.

This makes things a bit more concerning. I think inwardly, eyeing the man in front of me.

If humans were involved, did that mean that there were more somewhere else? And if there were did that mean that once we finished with Ezekial and his men we would have more humans to deal with?
